I felt that part so damn hard. I'm a recovering people pleaser, myself. If I had a partner who was telling me stories about how abusive and toxic his mother was, I know I would be lucky to be able to stay civil at best. But 4 or 5 years ago? Yeah I would've been just like OP. People like the MIL are honestly the absolute worst because not only do they treat others like dog shit, but they can be so damn good at it, they make their victims think THEY the aholes/not good enough. I do my absolute best to never wish death on people, but we all know it comes for us all eventually. And when it comes for people like MIL, I hope it's completely alone haunted by the ghosts of all the things she's done that put her in that moment.

Totally agree! OP thought she might as well "make friends with the person her MIL is now" since her husband seemed to have forgiven her? OP's Pollyanna ways came back to bite her in the ass. MIL hasn't changed at all--who she is now is exactly the same person that she was. And how can the husband have forgiven his mother when he apparently hasn't even worked up the courage to get angry with her in the first place? You can't genuinely forgive someone until you have gotten angry at them first, and processed what they have done to you.

Try to make herself look like a saint to the rest of the family with this "self-improvement?" Anyway, I'm *quite* sure the distance won't matter much. She'll guilt OP's fiance into visiting her often or sending her money. She'll keep wearing him down and pressing all the buttons she installed in his psyche. And he won't change, either. It can so incredibly hard to cut off an abusive parent-especially if they are your only active bio parent, the guilt is tremendous. I go through this daily. I had an extremely abusive mother in almost every way imaginable. She also went through personal hell to keep me and herself alive when everyone else abandoned her. She got kicked out, left by my bio father who ran off like a chicken. She was literally out on the streets and friends took her in temporarily until she found a job that housed and fed her during pregnancy working for an elderly woman who needed an in home carer. Everyone tried to get her to abort me but she refused, opted to instead to be kicked out into the street by her parents with nothing. She also saved my life again when I was in second grade at great personal risk. Our tiny run down trailer home (the best she could afford as a single mother with no child support and a man who ran off on her after getting her pregnant) caught on fire. I was at the back, cut off from her by a burning hallway. The fire started in the heater unit wiring and my bedroom was next to it. I could not wake up-the heat and smoke had me in some sort of deep sleep from which I could not come out of. I felt drugged. All I knew was the feeling of being yanked up off the floor roughly with my mom screaming bloody murder at the top of her lungs. She threw me over her shoulder and ran me down the burning hall as it was the only way in or out. I was so disoriented, hanging upside down with my head banging against her back as she ran and I could just see this surreal view of the walls on fire around us as she ran through a literal fire tunnel to save my life. Her skin got burned. Her hair burned, her eyebrows have a very slight melty skin look to them and the eyebrow hair never grew back in fully the rest of her life. That was from running through a fiery inferno to save her only child. She tried to save our cat but she got scared and ran to hide. The fire was now into the living room where our only exit door was. She had to get us out and she tried to go back in to get the cat but the cat ran down a crack in the back of the cupboards and she couldn’t reach her. And the door frame was now on fire and she had to leave or risk getting trapped herself. If you know anything about trailers-they burn down fast and furiously. It took everything we owned but the clothes on our back. I sat across the street crying knowing that my beautiful fluffy white kitty burned up in the fire. I watched the wall burn down in the kitchen and watched the refrigerator melt and drip down like melting chocolate. Firefighters put out what they could but a fire that hot smolders and keeps burning things up. Everything was gone. But my mom saved me. She’s saved my life twice at great personal cost and regardless of how terrible she was otherwise my heart can’t let me say goodbye forever. It’s too hard. I feel like I owe her too much. I’ve tried to repay it by housing her in my rental property free of charge (she pays the property tax only). Even if she’s not talking to me and very mentally ill and won’t medicate or change-at least she has a safe roof over her head.

RV - When he goes somewhere without OP, she should drive off without him. If he usually flies and gets a rental, he can do so again. Then contact a lawyer and consider the options. Maybe get a storage unit, check with local farms of possible, and don't let hubs know where it or the keys are located. Have a friend or taxi take you so he can't track your car. Check phone frequently for Spyware. Good luck.

For those of you who have an abusive in-law or relative, know this: they only live to do you harm. You will NEVER be able to please them. The harder you try, the more hateful they will act toward you. They have a mental and moral sickness that you cannot fix. Distance yourself from them, and keep your loved ones away from them.

OP heard about all the abuse she put her fiance through, and now, what, she wants a front row seat? Jesus.

Story 2: OP should've abandoned her soon to be ex-husband before they got to his mother's place at some gas station in the middle of nowhere with all his shit in those trash bags and then she should've made that phone call with his mother. I doubt his mom would be speeding there to pick him up based on how she reacted when OP actually informed her of her son's scheduled adultery!

I think that the EX had the keys. She mentioned that he wouldn't allow her to drive and that she had to wrestle the keys out of him in the end.
@janglesthearsonist52652 жыл бұрын
@@bun04y That's why she should've waited for a stop, so she could make an excuse to keep the RV running whilst he went inside. Then all she had to do was lock the door and begin the purging of his luggage. Even if he got back in time to see her start tossing his stuff out the door then she could resort to pushing the rest out the windows and then drive off.

Story 2. OP has an RV and works from home. If not already resident in one, she needs to 'move' to a state with at fault divorces before divorcing him and claiming that she believes he intended to cheat, and probably already has (get evidence?) And use this to get the prenup invalidated :)

Story 1: A case where you need to set up walls and boundaries, and where you let nothing stay private when calling out the lies and slander the narcissist makes. Story 2: There is "Hot Rage" and "Cold Fury", Hot rage burns bright but usually stops after a little while. But Cold Fury, that can stick around for a while, and can be much more destructive to the target(s) of said Fury.

1: Why would OP even *want* a friendship with someone who *bragged* about child abuse? The stories made OP sick to her stomach? Obviously not sick enough to keep her from coming back for more. OP also doesn't seem to realize that her fiance *hasn't* forgiven his mom, he's been *programmed* by her. She's the *worst* kind of naive. She *sees* the abuse and *willingly* walked into it. "Because I know she hates me now, I've worked even HARDER to be on her good side and make her comfortable." She might as well be waving a sign reading "please abuse me, I'll kick myself to make it easier for you." Nice that the fiance stands up for OP, but that he can do that, calls her a "stupid child," and *still* bows and scrapes to her every whim just makes him *disgusting* to me. Ladies, always look at how your boyfriends treat and talk about their moms. That's how they'll treat and talk about *you* one day. That he considers he a "child" also means his treatment of his mother is a reflection of what he's going to be as a *parent.* The poor baby, being raised by professional doormats who would sacrifice her on the altar of abuse to appease her monstrous grandmother. Update: So OP accomplished nothing, MIL moved for whatever reason (probably told everyone she was 'drive out'), and the rest of the in-laws hate OP. I am *nowhere* near as optimistic about this as OP is as *nothing has been resolved.* I hate to think what kind of spoiled, unstable brat they're going to turn their daughter into. 2: "Just to note, this is the first time that an issue like this has come up in our marriage." I *highly* doubt that. "I've been writing romance novels since I was in college." Stop. That's the problem right there. Twilight and the adult equivalents with Fabio look-a-likes holding a dazed or drugged woman on the covers take the *worst,* most *disordered* relationships and try to make them into some twisted ideal because "love." And OP *writes* this trash. Well, congratulations, OP, you got yourself Lord Byron without the poetry. I'd ask how it never struck OP as odd that he'd visit family without her, but she's a romance writer. He's also "brutally honest." (inner rage at OP's stupidity) Right, out comes the megaphone. *OP'S HUSBAND IS AN ABUSIVE JACKASS WHO'S USING THESE FREQUENT "BUSINESS TRIPS" TO GET SOME PUSSY!* Update: Well, at least OP had some class in how she disposed of the trash. Really says something that he apologized to his *mom* and not *OP.* I *guarantee* this isn't the first time he's cheated.

I hate hearing stories like OP in the first one, when their so weak and allow others to just trample over them, and not even have a damn spine to say anything. This made me so disappointed in her when mommy dearest told her numerous nightmares of abuse without a word about it. Then allowing her to just trash her reputation and daughter, not even trying to do anything at all. Seriously, I feel very bad for the baby girl growing up with no one to protect her at all, not even her father, but more of her weak, spineless mother.

1) OP's husband needs to stop trying to get love form someone who is incapable of it, and OP needs to stop trying to please this horrible person. Go NC, MIL adds nothing positive to their lives and would be damaging to their child. After update: So glad MIL has gone away and OP and her husband will be free of her physical presence. 2) I'm so glad OP has done well for herself financially. It's too bad her husband is being so greedy and grabby about the RV and refusing to accept it's original purpose for the one who bought it. If he wants one for his business trips he should buy his own. He is being awful, absolutely awful, he is selfish and showing no love or respect for his wife. Does he have a side-piece and wife is throwing a monkey wrench into the works? After update: Not surprised by what OP found out. He is such a 2 faced POS. I'm so glad OP dumped him and left him at his mother's and that MIL is on her side. Happy divorce is going to make him her X.

MIL in story 1 has some things in common with my mother. I think you can't try to control or manipulate your husband to be the person you want. My mother stopped drinking when my niece and nephew moved to my cou try. Believe it or not, people often behave terribly after they quit also, because the pain is being felt for the first time in years.

Story 1… I don’t know a sing,e person, nor met a single person, who hasn’t had trauma in their story. Truly, I’ve never met anyone where early trauma didn’t follow the patterns into their current lives. I have my own story, my elders have theirs & im just constantly depressed over the human race and how screwed up we are and yet can’t blame too many ppl, directly as this is all born of itself. Someone like OP is relatable, pre-high efficacy therapy and it kills me. Oooof. We’ll continue to bring more children into these situations, continue. Or to realize what’s happening until it’s too late or ever, until humanity changes. All anyone can do is keep trying to educate themselves and do better…hopefully things take a turn for our species soon.

1. Mom is projecting. She did not care about her son one wit when she was with a new man so she assumes her son does not care a wit about her when he is with a new girl (it will also include your kid btw, anything that diverts attention from her).
