I live in Thailand and have lived in the Philippines. I have a few rules. No marriage, no kids, no building a house, no buying or opening a business, no loans. I own my motorcycle and a few possessions that’s it. I have a great girlfriend for over two years now. I live at her house and she owns a nice paid off Honda Car. She has a nice, working family that is self sufficient. I pay for the expenses which is what I would do on my own even though it’s more with her but that’s it. Anything that I have done to the house for my comfort too is a gift. I can walk away if need be and not get hosed like lots of guys if it goes south. We make our beds, choose wisely don’t be desperate.

I AM CAUCASIAN AMERICAN MALE MARRIED TO MY CHINESE WIFE OF 51 YEARS. When a teen, my mother took me, in 1957, to see rhe latest Marlon Brando movie. I wanted to see the latest Frankenstein movie. Ha, ha. But I went along with what my mother wanted and it changed my life. The movie was, in color, "Sayonara" about Brando plays a U.S. military officer on leave in postwar, occupied Japan, and he sees a Japanese woman who mesmerizes him, and she mesmerized me. My teen self never forgot her and I wanted an Asian wife so much I knew I'd marry one. I would recommend seeing that movie, then compare it to the funny novel "Sayonara Revisited" about Japan in the 21st century (found on amazon). Anyway, my 76 year old self knows - if I were younger, to shake off the heartbreak and move on. Lots of Filipinas in the Philippines. No guarantee, but my 76 year old self knows best look for a possible wife in churches. My wife and I are both Catholics. So are most filipinas, but always look for the usual red flags, and watch carefully if she lives her Catholic faith before any marriage.

I’ve a friend whose Phillipine girlfriend said she was pregnant to her. He’s had a vasectomy so sought doctors advice and on that there was a very remote chance it wasn’t successful. He had tests and they were negative but being a nice guy decided to give her the benefit of doubt telling her on the birth he wanted a paternity test. Until the birth he put her in an apartment, furnished it, bought clothes etc for the baby and looked after her. After the birth he asked for the test and the raging result told him it wasn’t his so he walked away.

This story doesn't surprised me one bit. I encountered the same exact situation some 10 years ago. I bought and kept my Condo until now, and still go to the Philippines twice a year. The stupid thing I did was helped her and the parents build a house for 1 million pesos.Then one year later whilst I'm in New York working, and still is for the local government, she got pregnant for one of her co-worker. Lucky for her, she's still with the guy after 2 year. We're still friends, but I don't have much to do with her anymore. I will however, retire in the Philippines a few years from now, but no need for that kind of relationship anymore. @ScreamingEagleFTW are you on USA jobs? If it agha career seasonal then it's full benefits retirement all of it but there is a furlough. Every job has a different furlough length. I had to start as just a seasonal Ranger to get the job. It's a rare post.
