Great video 🎥, I enjoyed listening to your personal story. I started in the KZbin/Filmmaking space much later in life but am enjoying it very much, I feel like I've finally found the thing that I love doing everyday, even if it's not always smooth sailing 💨. When things are tough, I just remind myself to follow my heart and make the most of each day so there are not regrets later on. Wishing you the best of luck for your career journey this year 🍀!

Hey Carlo. Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts. I am Olavo and I am writing from Portugal. I`ve been on that battle since 2020 as well, and I made massive changes in my life to get into filmmaking (buying guear, moving back from the UK to Portugal to get more time to practice), then founding an agency to get people in so we can start producing films internally and I can support them to becomes actors and managing their careers; then to become a cinematographer in terms of learning about everything that involves videomaking, then the journey to become a full time cinematographer. In my case, as I am also an actor and I know the difficulties to actually get opportunities as an actor, I´ve created this agency which is at the same time a production company and I am not only managing people for them not to be exposed to the many issues and difficulties that I have been exposed, but also to help them to be able to perform and record through our internal productions. That means that I have to do lots of productions (passion projects) to create their portfolio and my portfolio as a cinematographer. In the pursue of that, it comes the challenges of managing to survive and making the time to produce content, which I try to create internal films and not just making videos of people crossing the street in slow motion, and dealing with people not even appreciating and valuing the efforts I make to create content with them, and take everything for granted and some of them even being disrespectful. There are many moments where I ask myself why I am wasting my time with people who don`t even appreciate and value what I am provide for them and the efforts I make. In the other hand, everybody around me says that I need to make money over that, so I should make weddings, and films festivals and clubs and everything to make money from all angles, but I stick to my grounds and I am focusing in turning talents in actors, and making movies so they become actors and I become a cinematographer. But Yeah... I related with every single word you said, and could add a couple more thoughts. Big hug from Portugal.

I’m proud of you and Danny talked about a lot about you and that’s fantastic, keep up the good work and don’t stop. I know your work and Danny’s work from a far but I also know both of you and too talented to be what you truly are leaders in the film field. I wish when I was in film school in 1983 at 20 and I had people like you to believe in me. The way you guys belive in each others talent. And trust that kind of camaraderie will last you a lifetime. I’m 61 years old still trying as filmmaker and will never give up on myself or my talent. You two make people like me proud to see that courage to believe in your future is still a thing in 2023 to inspire young people to never give up And that to bring some body along still worth doing I’m proud to get to know you both and I hope some day we all meet on the film circuit. I love to share with you some things learned over all this time and lot that I have still to learn from people like you guys. Until then sincerely yours Robert Lee Moore a baby boomer film maker in training.

Carlo, my words might not mean a ton, but dude I have 0 doubt that you're going to achieve your dreams. 0 doubt. For the months that I've known you, I've seen your work as a cinematographer and storyteller progress so far, it's motivating. It's so funny because I dropped out of university as a sophomore in 2020 to go full in on KZbin with only 800 subscribers. It seemed like the dumbest decision ever, but it just felt right. I'm getting the chills listening to your story because you're just doing what feels right and that's so rare. Keep killing it dude.

Bro I stumbled across your videos just a couple days ago. I’ve been watching the heck out them! I’m about to be 29, I’ve worked in the audio industry for 11 years. Mainly as an installer, but I also do live sound and have my name in the credits for some recording work for a couple big names. I’m at a transition point where my boss is in the process of selling his building so I know my main job is coming to an end. I’ve always had a want to do videography, and maybe one day cinematography. And I’ve finally dived head first into it taking on clients when I’m not out mixing live bands. But like you said, I feel torn between different paths in my life right now. And it’s extra difficult because I have a family. But this is what I needed to hear. I’m ready to give 100% to make not only my dream come true, but also make it something to put me and my family on a path to being financially comfortable. Thank you for taking the time to reflect your thoughts into the camera!

As other people here mentioned, the content you give out (the thoughts) are so welcoming for any individual that is on this road (not just a beginner - I'm 33, still owning the production co.). I just wanted to say that this big leap you're going through is absolutely normal (it happens exactly the same in Romania), when you know you're ready to make a step up (from a Video Assist to 2nd AC, or from 2nd to 1st AC, the same thing as for DoPs), it takes a few months, maybe a year or so, until people start thinking of you as what you want to become. Loved this! I'm on a very similar path, studied cinematography at (a mediocre) film school, graduated and started doing AC and trainee work. Loved being on set and doing the role but creatively I also felt unsatisfied. It's a very technical job mainly. Started for a corporate/ad agency as cam op and have been doing DP work with them for over a year. It enabled me to grow alot and it got to a point where I felt like I had outgrown it middle of last year. Been decreasing my hours there slowly and freelance work is starting to pick up more again now. Committing to making that change is so important and of course doing projects you actually like doing!I've you're ever in the UK or Germany, shoot me a message and we can grab a pint. Nick

The pressure is on, and I have soooo much more to learn before I get there.... but , it’s the exact same thing for me, there is no other part of the filmmaking process that I enjoy more than planning the shot and getting the shot , and having people feel what I was feeling when I took the shot , its just AMAZING man I totally get you.!!! I ma tell you like this bro: it’s a million times better to not have a lot of money and make a living doing what you are passionate about, than to still be broke and to be doing things that you are not crazy about. Some people cant even figure out what their passion is . And if you persist in your passion you will eventually make it !!! because even when you work 10 ,15 hours a day , you won’t ever feel like you are working to hard . I say go for it bro . 100

I’m just worried that I won’t get the connections I’ll need to get there where I want to go. And I also don’t know how I can make money off what I love to do. I’m 19 so I guess I have time. New subscriber, great video, I love the message. I definitely can relate and totally agree with the wedding part too haha, I wouldn't mind doing em but it doesn't push your creativity for that main reason I don't plan to promote them on my portfolio especially. For my journey, I started shooting fitness videos and I really wanted to shoot higher quality stuff, taking a liking to shooting videos. It took me few experiments before I actually found out that I want to do video work for living. I shot different style of photography and did free to fee / one paid gig's to find out that I don't find photography as career rewarding, I liked it more as a hobbyist. I pivoted to video work after that and each project been fun and even after all the hard work, its rewarding because you make a product that can make you feel something, I saw the power in videos and it's been roughly over year that I've committed on this path. I joined Fulltime Filmmaker to grasp on things quicker and now learning Davinci Resolve from Qazi to really step up my colors game / sound this year. Soon to join Qazi course to really dive deep into learning Resolve Coloring even though I'm satisfied with colors I've gotten on recent projects but I like to be a perfectionist and really do good. Fitness is the lifestyle and Cinematography is the career, that's how I'm rolling.

@@carlostigs Resolve is excellent tool and glad your using it. I used PP cc for good time but the quality of colors you can get out of resolve without dropping lut on footage is unreal. Check out Qazi, hes on youtube, lots of free n fun tutorials.
