My Final 2024 College Football Playoff Predictions: How Is The 12-Team CFP Different?

My Final 2024 College Football Playoff predictions are here. I discuss why the 12-team playoff will bring several unexpected changes to college football's postseason along with my bracket. I believe the Georgia Bulldogs, Ohio State Buckeyes, Florida State Seminoles, Utah Utes, and Liberty Flames will get the automatic bids as the SEC, Big Ten, ACC, BGI 12, and Conference USA Champions respectively. The Alabama Crimson Tide, Penn State Nittany Lions, Michigan Wolverines, Oregon Ducks, Missouri Tigers, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and the Iowa Hawkeyes will receive the other seven spots. I predict that Georgia Football, Alabama Football, Michigan Football, and Penn State Football will reach the semifinals. I think Georgia will win the 2024 National Championship, beating Michigan to capture the highest honor in the sport. We talk about all of this and more in this episode of College Football with Sam. I agree with you that Ohio State's defense has a bigger advantage, in general, over Michigan's offense than Michigan's defense does over Ohio State's offense. This, a long with home field advantage, is why I am picking OSU to beat UofM in the regular season. However, it is very hard to beat great teams twice, and I still think Michigan has better overall trench play, which is why I have them winning the rematch.

Multiple analysts + the majority of betting money backing the same team probably won't end well. There is a reason Georgia is still the favorite in the books despite more action and public support backing Ohio State. Also, Josh Pate's JP Poll (and my poll) both have Georgia at No.1, so take from that what you will.

In my opinion it is Ohio State’s year. Adding Chip Kelly as the OC is the biggest reason for my belief. The impact he will have on the run game will be insane. Especially, when you’re handing him the best group of backs in the country. If Seth Mcglaughin fixes his issue snapping the ball they will have a very experienced O line that will probably in all likelihood be the best unit in the Big 10. Even if they aren’t as good as I expect Chip Kelly is well known for getting really good production out of less than ideal O line units.

There is always a preseason favorite who totally wiffs, both from my predictions and the national predictions. For me it is Texas and for others it is Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State, or Florida State. I do think Texas has the capability to win it all though, so I am picking them to have a poor year out of calculated predictions and picking Texas to play closer to their floor, not just throwing something out there.

I actually didn't like making the pick, I just don't think Ohio State or Michigan would go 2-0 against each other if they matchup twice, and the Wolverines match up well with Notre Dame and Penn State. The 2 vs 3 seed bracket was much more challenging and frustrating to pick than the 1 vs 4 seed bracket.

@@collegefootballwithsamwhile I see your point it’s hard to but a team twice. This Michigan team is not nearly the same caliber it was last year. As much as I hate Harbaugh he is a hell of a coach and is going to be tough to replace. It took the Niners years to find a fitting replacement. Additionally, most of the staff left for the NFL with him. They lost their strength coach who was huge part of the team’s culture and who Harbaugh himself identified as one of the most important cogs in the machine. Wink Martindale isn’t half the coordinator that Minter is. The game has passed him by. Additionally Sherron Moore can’t focus on the O line and developing them as much as he did before given he has far more responsibilities as the team’s head coach. I don’t see Michigan being the threat you see them as. Also not to mention OSU is deeper and more talented at every position outside of tight end. Urban Meyer is talking about this year’s OSU team like not only being the most talented team in Ohio State’s history but the history of the sport itself. They will be able to beat any team twice with the talent and absolutely loaded coaching staff they have.

Just because they'd most likely have no ranked wins , and the Oregon loss will almost certainly be a beat down, but I'd definitely have any of the top 3 AAC teams, tulane, Memphis, and utsa, over them even with 2 losses,because they have some tough out of conference schedules , and they're conference looks to be a good bit ahead of every other G5 conference.

I believe Kirby Smart beats Dan Lanning in Mercedes Benz Stadium once again, in a National Title game very reminiscent of 2017, and Georgia cements themselves as a dynasty. This is the most complete, weakness free team in college football with a chip on their shoulder after last season.

As a Michigan fan, I'd be thrilled with a national championship game appearance in Moore's first season. I think we'll be an 11-1 or 10-2 team. I'm not sure how far we'll go in the CFP but I'd be thrilled with postseason wins over ND, OSU, and PSU if it happened.
