Great review series, thank you. I recently bought a used X1D, have not had a lot of time with it yet, but am truly impressed. The lenses are amazing. Only drawbacks I see so far are lack of distance and dof scale, so no hyperfocal shooting, 1/2000 shutter is a bit slow in bright sun as I try to avoid stopping down beyond f11, but I’ve ordered a couple of ND filters, lastly miss the b&w evf option of my Fuji X series, find it extremely useful to preview scenes in black and white and avoid ‘flat’ looking images

Your reviews are great because as you say, you are really handling the cameras. You can read all about a camera and its strengths and weaknesses but there is nothing like holding it in your hand and just shooting with it. Glad you found a camera that you love and letting us know why you love it.

Thanks for watching, that is indeed what it is all about. This is also why for 10 years I have only reviews camera I like from the get go. If a camera doesn't do it for me after I handle it, I do not review it, no matter how popular it may be or how many "affiliate sales" it could bring. I also will only review cameras after using them, never will I review one (as some actually do) without even trying it. So thanks for watching, many more reviews to come ; )

I'm loving mine. Purchased second hand for £1700. The colour is absolutely stunning, they've done a way better job than Fuji did with the same sensor. Colour rendition, ergonomics are absolutely stunning and menus are a joy. I'm qualified to say this as I took a GFX50s backpacking for a year around the world, and so wish I'd had this.

Good little review. I actually had this camera for the last 4 days in NYC where I shot my "own wedding" with it and a tripod. Call me nuts but the images turned out fantastic. The camera is definitely not a speed demon but If you can deal with that and not the best Low Light performance then it's a sensational camera. The resolution is mind blowing coming from a Nikon and Fuji shooter. The dynamic range and tones are amazing and the build quality is next level. This is a amazing camera for stills, landscape, and studio work and mainly tripod use "in lower light" I did miss some shots but for one I barely had time to mess with it before my wife and I got to shooting and I was sort of learning on the fly. The only real gripe I have with it is it just seems like I was shooting at 1/250th and slower. I was using natural light and I could have really benefited from a strobe for sure. If I had the $$ for this guy I would totally buy it for the resolution alone and the image it takes are wonderful. The build quality as mentioned is like a tank and it's small enough to toss in a small bag even with two lenses. I did use the Phocus app too and the files send really quick to the phone for uploading to social media if you want. I'm going to be doing a little write up on it and I'll have some photos up there as well in the next day or so! www.jdp-photo.com/blog

Steve, thank you for this thorough review of the X1D. I am thinking about this photographic tool for a while now and your review has been useful to me personally. I appreciate your style and got to know your blog recently at this occasion. Please keep on doing what you are doing. It is useful to more people than you may think. I know it is a one man (and woman) show ... and I know how it can feel sometimes ... So thanks again for the passion of photography and the sharing of it. I will post some comments from time to time to keep you posted. Regards from Paris, France.

I love the design of the camera and how it is in congruence with the image quality.

I must to said it is beautiful camera and love the simplicity (also the design of the screen and features very classy) for those of us who are photographer it is lot easier than computerized menus types with lot of Custom functions we will never use, my only concern is how fast they devaluate as i said in other comments. Congrats on buying it cause we only live once and today is today ;-) i wish like to see more of your photos in your videos i love your style, one thing is absolute true fresh photo art is unbeatable when it´s done with Leica or Hasselblad (this one for fashion is a winner as well), it is vintage but always look fresh. Wish you great photos, fun and please share :-)

How did you go about getting access to this location?
@HiFiHuff7 жыл бұрын
It's open to the public but there is never anyone there! We have been there 3X over the last 4 years, and there is never anyone else there. Not sure how they stay in business. $10 gets you in.

The AF seems a bit noisy. No ultrasonic motor I believe. But overall I m in love with this camera. Hope to own one, someday. Thanks for an overview. I'll check the whole thing at your website.
@HiFiHuff7 жыл бұрын
That would be lens dependent. But no USM.

PS: Are the photos posted SOOC or are they developed (Phocus and/or LR) ?

Most are direct from RAW, a couple were enhanced slightly. The photo of Mart for example was converted to B&W using Alien Skin. The Doll ini the windows had some contrast boost. The rest were direct from RAW. Thank you.

why does the shutter sound so funny. What type of sling you have for the camera? I like the sling
@HiFiHuff7 жыл бұрын
It's a leaf shutter, the shutter is in the lens. There are benefits to this such as flash sync up to 1/2000s. You can turn off the leaf shutter and use the electronic shutter if you prefer but I like the shutter sound. It's not loud, unless you are in a very quiet situation...which you can then turn the electronic shutter on and boom, no more noise. The strap is here: tieherup.eu/shop/camera-straps/asian-blue-snake-strap/

Definitely a cool camera. It makes me think Leica should become more aggressive with their S line of cameras and offer a new one at a much more competitive price.

But is it worth 250k. ?
@HiFiHuff7 жыл бұрын
For me, yes it is worth it. Only because it gives me so much of what I have been looking for. I can finally shoot in my own town, during the day without harsh highlights blowing or images looking super flat. For me, that is huge as is the low light ability and size.
@sonvfave7 жыл бұрын
I hope i did not offend you as i spoke in jest no one thinks its 250 k It looks more full frame for ergonomics so thats awesome, fit finish again wonderful. Im just wondering since you shoot so many great cams from everyone and gave that artist eye how it sits with all the flagships including a7r-2 although now a dated. Can i adapt lenses? Etc etc i wonder not that its good or great as it surely is both, its the 12 k Man thats a bunch for folks in the middle !! Again your awesome!! Maybe some day i will have the fortune!!! Thank you my friend!!! M

Is it me or is the shutter sound really annoying? Sounds like a cheap toy camera ... or insect.
@HiFiHuff7 жыл бұрын
It's a metallic snick and click - I have used one other camera that had a similar shutter sound in life, but can not remember what it was. One can also activate the electronic shutter, which is near silent. Thanks for watching.
