10,000 Volts surprised me. I felt directly „at home“ when I listened to it for the first time. Sadly, KISS stopped making music many years ago whereas Ace continued being creative. I think Bruno Ravel of The Defiants was responsible for the mix and mastering. IMO Ace sounds modern but still maintains the classic rock vibe. To me, Bruno did a great job bringing Ace‘s signature sound to a modern-day-like sound level.

Ace has that magical “something” that is so unique to him and makes all of his songs feel connected, as if they were part of the same *solar* system. I don't listen a lot to Ace's music, but this song got recommended to me yesterday and I think sounds pretty cool. Totally agree with you on the drum sound, but then I'm not a fan of modern sounding productions in any context. When you talked about the video and said "economical way to do a video these days", I immediately thought of the November Rain video, and five seconds later... there it is. 😆

I'm SO glad that Ace is going back to faster, more complex songs. On the last few albums he seemed to rely on less speed and simpler drums. I guess it's easier when you have a very solid backing band. I expected him to be slowing diwn, maybe releasing an electric blues album... Maybe that's because I see him getting older. I'm glad I was wrong. Thanks for this review. It was insightful :)

It’s like the majority of Ace’s releases of the last 15 years. Not necessarily bad, but not great either. Fairly generic. Love the guy and will buy it to support him, as I’ve always done, but again like the other releases, I’ll listen to it 4-5 times, and that will be enough. Just happy he’s still up and about at 70, tho what I’ve seen lately, I wouldn’t bother going to see him play live now. In theory it’s nice, but the original 4 playing together now would sound horrendous. It was a cluster last time, let alone putting another 23 years on them. And that’s the end of my dribble 😂 0:01

Ace, and KISS, are what made me want to play guitar in the first place. That Ace has the sense to sound at least a little modern shows he understands that he can't stay the same from 1976. The last 2 KISS albums sounded like they were trying to be KISS from the Rock and Roll Over/Destroyer/Love Gun days and sucking at it, One of the riffs sounds a bit like a riff from Slash's Snakepit's "Ain't Life Grand" album, but that's fair because if not for Ace there's probably no Slash, since Steven Adler took Slash to his house and played the Kiss "Destroyer" album and told Slash they were going to start a band. Check out "Shred with Shifty" (Premier Guitar) with Craig Schiflet of Foo Fighters interviewing Mike McCready of Pearl Jam. The 1st 10 or 15 minutes are an Ace lovefest!

really enjoyed your thoughts on the vid and on ace's playing seen him many times in club/bars, and areas, was hoping for like you said the classic ace toggle switch sound but i agree a good tune, would I love to hear him do something like a dr love song sure or something totally new and heavy with chugging riffs like the riffs in manditory suicide, I think he could if he tried to even do a dimebag take on the riffs on the song walk, which would be so cool to hear him do just to really blow peoples minds. no it wouldnt have to be as fast as the speed metal bands do, just the riff feel and slow chugg would be different to hear him play it.

Ace has done lots of greasy and gritty, don't mind him dropping a record that's a little more radio friendly. This new stuff certainly isn't as slick as FREHLEY'S COMET.

I agree on the production , something I have a problem with in general. It's tricky because if any modern recording doesn't match what everybody else is doing it can seem lacking so you have to keep up. If there is one thing great about being a very unpopular musician such as my self , is I have no pressure to keep up with trends ! BTW I call that a "Hot Fade" and it's super fun and sometimes the only way to end a song thats so good you can't get out of it . Best example is "Suspicious Minds" from Elvis . You play that song live and you're going to be locked in for at LEAST 45 minutes because there is no way out .
