Good work, man. I'm right there with you - turning 40, been binge drinking like a teenager for 20 years. Did way too much drinking alone and also exacerbated my anxiety and depression. Time to cut it out to make room for all the great things I have in my life. All the best.

This is a mirror imagine of what I have been doing. Don't drink or smoke all week - then Friday night I'm out drinking anything I can get my hands on until about 2am. Come home with beers and continue on my own - whilst smoking about a pack of cigarettes. Then it takes me until about Wednesday to get my head straight and out of the pit of confusion and foggy then do it all again on Friday or Saturday. I'm determined to quit for at Least six months. It's sad that I'm 36 years old and don't k ow what I am actually like as a person as I've always been influenced in some way by alcohol. Either trying to drag myself back to 'normal' or looking forward to getting drunk. Thanks for the video - hope you're keeping going!

Andrew McGuinness I'm still sober, thanks. 450 some days or something now. Andrew, it is completely possible for you to get sober and stay that way. The thing I did was get help. I used my works employee assistance program and got 3 visits to an addition counselor, that helped a ton. I also started going to an addiction group on Friday evenings. There, I'm also able to help others, which In turn, helps keep me accountable. Bottom line is you need to get some help outside of yourself, that's what did it for me. You can do it. Feel free to contact me with any questions or requests. God bless you.

Good man. Thats great to hear. I'm coming up to two weeks without alcohol and already i can feel a change in my thinking. Just feel a lot more clear and positive - plus this weekend was the first in a while that i didn't binge drink. I seem to have so much time i don't know what to do with it. I have started to attend some AA meetings which i found helpful. Hope you are keeping good and thanks again. Andy
@JasonBolte8 жыл бұрын
Andrew McGuinness good job Andy. Them meetings will help you a ton. Your going to continuo to feel better and better all the time, even my months into your sobriety your going to be surprised that every aspect of life will improve, a lot. That extra time on your hands is a gift, at first you don't know what to do with it, but you'll discover new, positive thinks to fill it with. Keep it up and God bless you.

This is by far the most helpful quitting alcohol video. I'm 32, and your story is exactly the same as mine. I have ruined my life with alcohol. I'm on day 3 now in detox. I actually went to a facility a few days ago to begin my detox but got absolutely no sleep because of the snoring of my roommates and the noisiness of the receptionists (I was in the observation room because it was my first night and was extremely intoxicated. So, when I woke up, I felt even more tired and hung over than usual, so I checked myself out. I've been home, and have been taking my diazepam and and watching these inspirational videos. Thank you so much for the story.

The anxiety got brutal for me - panic attacks even. Usually happened the day after, after the hangover had subsided and right after I would eat - bam. Brutal, scared to even drive. Sad thing is I quit drinking for over 2 years, 3 years ago and my life catapulted into being great. Once I started again, purely due to dating, my life slowly unraveled again. I am on day 5 and already feel 100% better. Props on the video, the real ones are the best.

The hardest thing is that I am a DJ on the weekends! Doing it all for all your said reasons. I am seeing the benefits of those Saturday/Sunday mornings of not feeling terrible. Well done dude.
@goddog477 жыл бұрын
I thought it would be harder than it has been for myself, I'm only 73 days in my sobriety but it's been allot easier than I expected. I'm aware that I would be in the same or worse situation if I start drinking again but I'm enjoying the lack of all the negative things of drinking, which far out way the positives. Wish I had done this sooner as I would be that little more healthier and wealthier than I am now.

Kudos on ya man, my parents ignored us at night, and were crabby in the morning... We didn't know why, it became the norm. My mom quit it at your age, we were nearly grown up and out. It was when mom got sober, that we realized the difference. Your kids deserve to have the real you. You deserve to be proud and happy. My sister and I cared for my dad in his eighties, he was drinking and calling emergency in the middle of the night for us to come pick up the pieces. He got sober at 88, ans is now 91. Keep filling your time with better stuff. Amazing honesty.

CollBunny that is some awesome feedback. I knew my behavior had to have some impact on my kids, I stopped being alright with that and asked for help. I'm happy your mom decided to get sober. I started smoking before I turned 13 when I was staying in Greece that summer with family. I came back after that summer and continued. I started to binge drink when I was around 15 and I had an episode before turning 19 where I was on a glass patio table and it shattered right below me I fell down and hit my head hard and woke up in the hospital with stitches to a doctor with an eye patch on and thought I was being harvested for body parts. I gave up booze for a while and started again sometime later, and one night I was at a party where I had to be sober as I was designated driver this time and got put off by being around everyone that was drunk, and even seeing my buddy and his girlfriend getting into a fight and fooling around with other people right in front of each other. Finally, the last straw was a phone call the next morning where I heard some terrible news that a friend of mine who had been married for a couple of years by that point with a child on the way had been killed by a drunk driver. I am now 31 and haven't touched alcohol ever since. I eventually managed to quit smoking as well at 23 (though I do smoke a Cuban cigar a couple of times a year when there's an occasion worth celebrating). I stopped drinking pop and juice at around 24-25 and have been drinking tons of water ever since, and many times exceed 4 liters a day. Despite not being very active I am actually healthier than most of my peers in my age range and even those that are younger. I also get mistaken for being in my early 20's on frequent occasions. Congratulations on this life choice, as you progress you will see a big difference! Good luck! :)

Back when I drank I wouldn’t drink at all in the week then go out Fridays and the occasional Saturday and just drink to excess. Some months could spend £300-400+ on alcohol because once I had a few, I just could not stop no matter how much I wanted to. It just felt too good but one night isn’t worth hating the rest of the week
