bought a 2002 LT 8 months ago. $2500 and 37,000 miles. These bikes are a way better than a HD. The ABS light was blinking but everything worked. Owner had Just had steel brake lines put on and brakes flushed::$1500! and only a 1000 miles earlier over $2000 spent on factory servicing! And it had a brand new battery ($160). So a few days I ago I serviced it. The ABS reservoir was low: The mechanic that did the brakes screwed up. Put on a new O2 sensor, bleed the system (do it every year they say), new radiator water, etc. Everything goes together one way, make a mistake and back you go. And a new set of Metzler 888 Marathon. Good tire but they move under tar snakes . Now I have $3000 on it and it looks like new and is good for many many thousands of miles. These bikes do fall over easily. Park them on a flat surface. Put it in gear.

Yes it is a great bike for the money. And you definitely don’t want to have dealerships or mechanics working on the bike, it just isn’t economical. Very true, I am scared of parking the thing on any non flat surface! Glad you got a good deal and are enjoying the LT, it’s a great touring bike.

Beware of the high center of gravity of the motorcycle.I also own a BMW K1200LT(2004 facelift), it's an amazing motorcycle. I always consume less than 5 liters of fuel per hundred kilometers.I only need a coffee machine on my motorcycle.:-)I wish you many happy kilometers.
@JoshPiper4 жыл бұрын
Yes, the weight of the motorcycle took some getting used to, especially at low speeds. And I’m always a little worried about parking it somewhere where it’s not entirely flat. Fuel economy is good and it sure feels good not being too beat up after 500 + mile days. Enjoy yours as well!

I have a 99 1200 LT.It has 98,000 miles . I love it . 50 miles to the gallon riding double fully loaded . Yes some maintance is a pain . Very comfortable .
@JoshPiper4 жыл бұрын
Nice, I think I'm only getting around 45 MPG by myself. Yeah, maintenance isn't the easiest on this bike. I had to replace the fuel pump which wasn't a very easy job. Also, my front brake line failed. But, the riding experience is great and comfortable when all maintenance is squared away. It's an awesome machine. Now I'm curious as you have the same bike as me with nearly 100K (i'm only at 33K) have you had any thing come up that required repair? Anything other than just oil changes, tires, brake pads, etc...?
@rogerimhoff23074 жыл бұрын
i have the original clutch .Switched to E-3 sparkplugs . Bike seemed to run bettter with them . Changed to Speigler braided stainless steel brake lines . Major improvement over stock. Rear drive failed on a trip to the Biltmore Castle . Eurosport Ashville great dealership . Use Amsoil 75w-110 in rear drive . Change often . I really like the Metzler ME888 Marathon Ultra . Run 42psi front and 50 psi rear . Use Amsoil 10w-40 motorcycle oil in engine . I use Amsoil 75w-90 in transmission . I installed a V-Stream windsheild . Yes it is an awesome machine .

Yeah there are also a lot of rt1150s between 2 and 3 grand with relatively low miles (usually under 50k miles). A very inexpensive way to get a real touring machine! Most people simply don’t ride their bikes!
@JoshPiper4 жыл бұрын
And, BMWs (at least from this era) have basically no resale value which is great because it makes acquiring them very inexpensive. I prefer this bike over a Harley and a 1999 Harley would easily be 5-7 grand US, maybe more

on my k1200 LT 2007 the chargeur CD is good for disque MP3

Yes, I think the newer LT's had the CD slot up in the compartment where my CB radio is. And yours has an MP3 jack that is nice! Also your bike has the electric center stand, makes doing that job a lot easier!

Yes, mine will play normal CD's (i think CD's are in the MP3 format). I just thought in the newer LT's you could hook up an Ipod or other MP3 device directly instead of using CD-Rom's
@daneswanson26373 жыл бұрын
I have the same bike but it didn't come with a CB radio you should keep it cuz cell phones don't work in the mountains so keep that in mind I've tiped mine over at least 5 times and fucked my back up trying to lift it so I thinking of getting a hydraulic center stand which will solve the problem I did a few things when I got it like take out the carbon can and pulled the fuel filter and it had an exhaust leak so I just had to tighten and it runs awesome I just hate slow speeds
@JoshPiper3 жыл бұрын
Yes it is incredibly heavy, not fun to maneuver at low speeds. You can pick it up all by yourself? I’ve had it fall on me 2 or 3 times and needed assistance to get it back up. You are right, the CB could come in handy in a sticky situation.

@@JoshPiper yeah my bike just feels weird earlier this summer I hit a set of R&R tracks and my mirrors fell off and thought I was going to pile drive into the pavement and I'm thinking my rim is messed up so I'm going to see if I can get a new one

Oh also, try to see if the heated grips work! The 99 doesn’t have an indicator for when it’s off or on and mine has never worked, it’d be nice having heated grips for colder rides. If they don’t work you can knock a little off his ask price, also condition of tires, if stereo works correctly, any proof of maintenance etc... these are kind of just small things but all in all if it looks good and you can get between 2 and 3 k it is worth it in my opinion.

Yes I agree with the brake lines, my front brake line failed, also my fuel pump went out which is no small job. Plan on doing the maintenance or learning how to do the maintenance yourself because a shop will charge lots just to take off all the Tupperware. I’ve only ridden mine about 14k miles now, in I guess about 2 years so not much. fuel pump, front brake lines, new front tire, changed engine oil twice, changed final drive fluid once, changed trans oil once. I only paid 2 grand for mine so I wouldn’t pay much more than 2500 or 3000 if it’s really clean. It only has 27k miles you say so it has probably sat for long periods of time with no use. Give it a really good test drive before you buy. The weight of the bike takes some getting used to, but when your rolling you can knock down 500 mile days in comfort, it’s an awesome machine.

Is this bike heavy ? Looking at a $2000 for 6k with under 7000 miles on it. Mint condition
@JoshPiper3 жыл бұрын
The bike is incredibly heavy. It takes getting used to and has a higher center of gravity than most other bikes, at low speeds it can be hard to control if your not used to a heavy bike. Also, a 2000lt isn’t worth more than about 3500 to maybe $4000 no matter the mileage.
@jDot24143 жыл бұрын
@@JoshPiper thank you! Going to look at it tomorrow. Appreciate the info, yea I’m 5’7 .. 155lb lol so I’ll give it an test drive. I have a sportster but it’s only about 480lb
@JoshPiper3 жыл бұрын
Ok, good luck. Just be careful maneuvering it at low speeds because all that weight takes some getting used to. And again, i don’t think anyone would pay 6k. At the end of the day it’s still a 20 year old bmw, I paid 2k for mine with less than 20k miles for comparison.

@@jDot2414 I like my k1200, it is a great value for the money. The rt1150 would also be a good inexpensive option. Also those Honda st 1100 or 1300s are very reliable. The FJR 1300 gets high reviews as well. But the BMW is a lot of bike for the money and you can really log a lot of miles on the k1200. The stock brake lines on the k1200 were known to fail (mine did and many others who have owned one said the same) so hopefully the guy has replaced them. If not just expect that you may have to replace them as at this point they will be 20 yrs old.
