"Hi, I’m really curious about the PO role and feeling a bit tense about it. I have some doubts and would appreciate your help. Could we talk about it?"

This is very interesting. I can relate to this as a BA I also recently lead my squad through an Agile Transformation, supporting my PO. We’re having our first BL refinement today. My tasks were to set up jira, create a ticket creation guide, help devs create their tickets etc…good experience. One question, I’ve been at the company for 7 months now, I’m a BA & SM my goal is to be a PO after a year in, what’s the best path and/or how did you plan your path to become a PO? (Lessons learned etc) Ps. I noticed you had to join a new company I’m interested to know why. Maybe a video on this could be useful. Thanks again. Keep up the good work

Hey David. Great to hear that you are taking up important stuff! My advice for becoming a PO if you are a BA & SM is to look even more for the connection with your PO. BA & SM is a great starting position for becoming a PO. actually it was my position, too. Ask your PO which of his responsibilities you can support or take over, so you get 1 foot into the PO door step. E.g requirements prioritisation and more requirement interviews with business side stakeholders instead of only IT stakeholders. Step by step you are becoming a PO on s skill level then. When you are able to perform all activities your PO is doing, then you are ready. You can look internally for a PO position, when you have the skillset and have proven that a couple of months. I switched companies because I also wanted to capitalize on my new skills regarding a higher salary. Internal moves often have low or no salary adjustment. I‘ve made a video on why I left my ex company too. Internal moves are often better for learning, external moves for making capital gains.

Congrats on the job! It's pretty bad that your company didn't hire Agile Coaches / Scrum Masters: and you havs to do part of their job too. Are there many techniques / tools a P.O and BA have in common? Can you make a video on explaining them?

Thanks Marius! Indeed, with me they hired a Business Analyst, Product Owner, Scrum Master and an agile coach all-in-one, that was probably my competitive advantage over others 😂. Just kidding. In the beginning I will carry these responsibilities, as everything is going more smooth I can Delegate some tasks and focus more on the others, I guess.😄 Let me think about a video on the Business analyst - product owner comparison👍🏼
