What size cam is in that thing again? My 5.3 ran best shifting at 6000 RPM with a stage 2 cam. I tried everything from 5500-7000 RPM shifts.

If you have to roll the throttle, it makes me think the timing curve isn't fast enough. Something like that should be really happy with 35 squirters, orange or green cam on the front and red in the back, but the timing curve needs to be quick. Good god, did you say 2.54 gear, damn find a 3.42 ss rear along the way 😂
