Reese was a solid college player at UNCW. Learning to fight through the heat, especially for an Englishman, is always challenging. Here in North Carolina, we spend 4-5 months playing in high humidity and ninety-degree temps, so we learn to fight through it.

I lived in Singapore for 6 months earlier this year. It took me about 2 months to get used to the physical stamina and rapid recovery necessary of playing at the 4.5 level... during mornings and evenings. Daytime requires months, if not years, of training in those conditions. The trouble is mostly that as soon as you overheat, there's no way to escape or recover. You're in both the microwave and oven at the same time.

It really is the humidity which makes players (people in general) struggle. One cna see this even at atp level at the US Open (jack sock and many more incidents...). Very very hard to prepare for these conditions when you ar not used to it and almost out of nowhere you start to struggle physically and from there it's really taff.

I think the physicality is definitely there. When the ball gets slower and less dynamic, as in the Round 3 Qualifier, it's important to focus on extending rallies with the emphasis of moving the guy all over the court on the other side. Furthermore, you're right that slower and less dynamic tennis balls reduce the effectiveness of offensive weapons though that ball can also help bolster your defensive weapons. As I've been watching, the biggest defensive weapon you've got is your speed, so with that slower ball, any effort Reece could do to try and go flatter and harder and hit clean winners though he would fail to finish the point a larger percentage of the time because of your speed. Once you find the red zone via moving him around the court, you can hit into it, though expect it to take at least a few shots to finish the point. With this tactic, the opponent will get very tired and then the match is right on a silver platter...

Glad to see improvement, Felix! Keep growing your iq of the game and develop that intention to your shots. Remember anyone can beat anyone in a baseline game, but when serves and volleys are in play, you can see the difference between maybe the 1000th vs 100th ranked players. Develop that iq of knowing when to come to the net, when to be assertive and when to be defensive, and your game will skyrocket. You've got all the physical tools to be great, so there's not much concern there, but really studying the game of tennis is what will put you on top in the end

Tough match Felix. One thing you may really have to consider is establishing a training base in an area where the weather is hot almost year round, so you can improve that side of your conditioning, and where you can find LOTS of high level players locally to train with, as well as prize money open level tournaments to keep getting good matches and possibly available hitting partner gigs to supplement your income. My vote would be South Florida: Boca Raton, West Palm Beach- east Coast; Bradenton- West Coast.

Been watching you since day one of your pro career and I check your match results on google quite often. You've definitely improved but a ton of your losses are in match tiebreaks(where you generally lose by very small margins). You should try focusing on simulating those conditions during practice, if you're not doing that already.
@pierroulechou
@pierroulechou 4 ай бұрын
to train for those conditions, you can do SAUNA, lots of it before going to the hot country, lots of heat prep can be difference between winning and losing. ( they train like that in ultramarathon :D ) heat exposure before big race, nice improvement! didnt watch you for a long time, thats nice :O a bit too many backhand in the middle short, but its getting there!
@remedypath5941
@remedypath5941 4 ай бұрын
If this helps - proper acclimation for that heat takes anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks. You have to be out in the sun and heat everyday (not all day but a good amount of time within your limits) without t-shirt and hat - building up a tolerance on your skin in the form of a tan. Get some sun on the face and head but in small doses again building up a tolerance there. At night when you sleep you feel very hot as the skin cools itself off. However after training to be in the sun and heat, the payoff is well worth it. ps. you would have that match in the bag mi amigo!

I play 3.5 league in the Florida summer heat and humidity and it is tough for people who did not grow up here, like me. No one wants to play a third set tiebreaker as it is too much of a coin flip, and often the matches go three sets, often 3 hours long. Keep a towel in a six pack cooler with lots of ice and put it around your neck during changeover. Singles matches are not easy.

I’m assuming he lives at home when he’s not playing tournaments. If he’s not concerned in the short term about savings for the future then he really only needs enough YT revenue to cover his tennis costs which was around $55k last year. It might not cover all his costs but it must cover a large portion of it. As a 30 something year old it probably doesn’t seem worth the investment long term but when you’re a passionate 20 something year old like him you’re probably not looking that far ahead. Fair play for giving it a go

I honestly think you could benefit a lot from higher racket weight because it looks like you are swinging very fast right now with lots of head speed (which is good) but if you look at someone like djokovic he does not swing as fast and still generates a ton of pop on the ball. I think that could raise the ceiling (but of course not like i am qualified to give advice like this, just thinking)

In the very same loss i hear you fault the courts for being slow, the ball to not move properly trough the air, for balls to not be changed and the other guy being lucky and juuust in the end youll realize you probably could have stayed more aggresive for the last three (?) points, but still wrap up being quite happy with your performance. I recognize this reasoning from your previous losses and really have to put a comment now. You should be fuming after these losses, almost to the point you want to kill yourself, in order to learn and improve. Tennis is a mental sport. You either win the tight ones regulary or you regulary loose them. Poor mentality and finding external reasons why you lost rather looking to yourself makes you loose more than you win. Sorry but it wont do the trick and I foresee no breaktrough with this amount of accumulated "looser-mentality", either short or long term. Such a shame on what otherwise seem to be an epic journey you're on which i could only dream of at this point with small kids at home.

Not enough depth control on the FH. Look at 14:13. Left it quite short. Should be able to get this deeper. honestly when im looking at ur gameplay i think if u manage to improve the length of ur base strokes u will jump to top 800 i think. if u watch ur matches theres rly a lot of cases where ur uncontested base strike just lands right at the T which is just too short. u give the enemy such an easy opportunity to attack with little effort. what saves u sometimes is the fact that ur really quick but the higher the level the less forgiving this will become. all easier said than done obviously
