there's more than one proper way Conner. Saxons grew up in Hamlets and we never left them. Where ever you go in the world, if the hotel receptionist says go right, you go left, That's how you find the proper stuff, not the tourist traps. (Or in yankee language if they say west, go east. Always admired the inherent navigational ability of Americans)

Hi Conner, next time you have fish and chips, and you get a slice of lemon with it... That;s for your fish...No vinegar. I hope you had a good time in London, I love it myself...But then I would do, I live there.

Lol yeah most of us tend to put a small shots worth in, not an entire cow's udder! Always funny watching these things though, enjoyed it. Definitely would say try a small regular take away fish and chip shop - outside of London - for real fish and chips - this was a more upmarket fine dining fish and chips lol.

Earl Grey with fish and chips...jeez that is like serving apple sauce with roast beef! It needs to be builders tea, so strong that you can stand your spoon in it. Nobody in the South of England would eat mushy peas or gravy with their chips, up north maybe...salt and vinegar and that is all you need.

'Mushy peas' are traditionally prepared from dried peas. My mother grew up in a fish and chip shop her parents owned in Liverpool before WW2. She told me that the peas weren't 'mushy' by design it was just how they turned out after being soaked overnight to reconstitute them then boiled to cook and finally kept hot for many hours. They would prepare them by the bucket load each night ready for the next day. Why use dried peas? Simply because fresh peas were seasonal and before freezers became widely available dried were the only economical solution for bulk users like chip shops.

here in the states we have what's called split pea soup which is more or less the same thang except more spices usually but you'd always use dried peas fer that too fresh are too seasonal and you can't store them.

I'm northern and I love Earl Grey, but you can tell I'm from a working class background because I put milk in it. I once horrified a woman in a posh tearoom doing that :D To be honest, I grew up drinking 'builders' tea - cheap teabags, too much sugar, overbrewed - but I've long since discovered that tea can be nicer than that. Nothing wrong with choosing more interesting, loose-leaf teas. If we leave 'posh' things to toffs, the rest of us miss out on nice things.

I love milk on its own, but in tea, less is more. I just put enough in so it’s no longer transparent. That goes double when the tea is a weak variety to begin with, like Earl Grey. Also - with the strong flavours of the food you want a stronger tea. I only have Earl Grey occasionally, I normally drink something stronger and recommend Taylor’s of Harrogate c

Haha! Earl Grey tea is not usually taken with milk. However, whatever type of tea you choose, you must let it brew properly. Five minutes is about the right length of time before adding milk. For the best fish and chips, you must travel to the north of England. I am from the north and live in London. I know places where you can get good fish and chips, but down south here they make the fish with the skin on (gross). The authentic northern style of eating is fish (no skin) in batter, chunky chips, bread and butter, mushy peas, salt and vinegar. The food must be freshly fried and not kept standing.

A. The 'flower pots' are window boxes. B. Only add enough milk to the colour you prefer. Add the milk first to a heat sensitive cup/mug. Add the milk afterwards if it's a china cup. C. Get 'takeaway' (carry out) fish 'n chips wrapped up. They're better than ones eaten on a plate. Pick up battered fish with your fingers. Add salt & vinegar to your personal taste or don't add them. Tartare sauce is served with battered fish. D. Mushy peas: marrow fat peas are soaked in baking soda (Google this just in case I am wrong) and hot water. Drained off, stirred until mushy. Heated up and served with fish and/or chips. If you get takeaway, have the mushy peas poured over the fish and/or chips.

Fun fact for you about tea and milk. Milk should be added 1st (but over time it was added after tea was poured due to modern clay ceramic cups and mugs that is able to handle the boiling water) due to the fact the in the 18th century we has very delicate bone china tea cups and they would crack under the boiling water heat so milk was added 1st to cool the cup as the tea was poured in. Another unproven fact was in the 17th and 18th century bone china were easily stained by the tea leaves so milk was added to prevent it from staining.

@@KatelynnE1995 I'm 100% northern and nobody but nobody I know would dream of putting gravy on fish and chips. The chips, yes, if they're separate from the fish, but that's as far as they'd go.

For fish and chips you need to head north, usually best by the sea.while your there try Lancashire hotpot, scouse in Liverpool, black pudding, Eccles cakes , oatcakes in Stoke and Wigan kebab

Red telephone boxes and the Royal mail post boxes are found every where here, not just London 😂 we have red buses in Cornwall which is 300 miles away from London as well

Everything in this video is just criminal, the warm milk and calling it tea, the lemon didn't look like it was squeezed over the fish, the mushy peas wasn't touching neither the fish nor the chips, I didn't see a slice of bread either (bread might be a northern thing). If you want proper fish and chips you need a fish and chip shop preferably by the sea, not a posh restaurant

Its not a posh restaurant its a traditional chippy. I have actually eaten there. Its really good. I'm from the north and have tried chippies all over I can confirm that the Mayfair Chippy is as good as anywhere else.

Just for future reference, leave the tea to stew for more than five seconds - aoubt five minutes would give you a better, darker tea - oh, and as everybody else is saying LESS MILK!

@@tonyyoung6951 It is! Which is why I leave the tea in the pot for ages and/or mix in some Yorkshire tea to give it a bit of bite (without losing the bergamot flavour)
