The first five weeks are a Swiss tournament that will see half the teams eliminated before the Playoffs, which are an 8-team knockout.
Each team has 6-10 players, but only 4 play each week, with an average rating cap of 2550 and at least one woman in each line-up. Each member of the team plays each member of the opposing team at 10+2 rapid chess. In case of a tie the players play another round of games at a faster time control.

Good game Antonio, this game shows your fighting spirit. You had a lost position against a strong opponent yet you kept finding moves to complicate the game! And what a nice story to finish it with! Kudos! 👏
@SacredLiquid
@SacredLiquid Жыл бұрын
"complicate the game" is so underrated as a tactic for new players. Tal made a career out of it. (He was also a super strong GM but you get my point. If you make your opponent overthink positions, you're winning the mental game.)

@@SacredLiquid I agree. At least on a club/amateur level, the majority of players are much better attackers than defenders & they are not really all that interested in learning fine defensive skills. They'd rather go on offense! But what this means is that if you're being pushed & pressed in a game but find a nice defense & counterattack strategy and/or can spot the shifting trends in the position, it's amazing how quickly your opponent can fall apart, simply because they've not mentally readied themselves for a shifting trend on the chessboard. GM Rowson does a superb job of explaining it in "7 Deadly Chess Sins", and it's amazing how many amateur/club players just want to play in a certain way and follow certain attack patterns that they get completely blindsided when positions shift and change. An unexpected defensive sacrifice followed by a swift counterattack is sometimes all it takes to throw the opponent off completely.

In my first (and only) game against a FIDE Master, I wasn't aware that he was one. I had just moved to a new town, showed up the the university chess club one evening and had a really good run, beating him and others in blitz. The next week I joined the local chess club tournament and ended up playing him in the first round, still oblivious. I came out of the opening with a slight advantage and he offered me a draw (because after my blitz performance the week before he thought I was a strong player...), which I accepted. When I found out about his title and ELO, I was so proud. And then I blew the next two games against lesser opponents by blundering pieces. I dropped out of the tournament in embarrassment. Oh well.

I can relate. I think I was down 3 pieces in a grossly misplayed Traxler Counterattack, but I was so engrossed with holding my pawn formation together that I forgot to sulk. No pleasant memories of a GM sweeping the sidewalk, but but there were follow on memories of learning more about the Traxler. Nothing like a good ass whipping to make you crack the books.
