I’ve been doing this challenge a ton since I saw your last video, beehives are pretty important and I was even buying extensor ladder for dine and offense. The sand worms are definitely the biggest threat, and collecting enough scrap is a gamble.
@sheffaustin8 ай бұрын
after this run I realized it’s in my best interest to learn that dine fire exit jump to save the money on the extension ladder 😅 at least with offense we can bypass it via pipe jump (via parkour might be too slow). I thought sandworms would be the biggest issue, but after trying again this morning I for sure think the giants on Vow are the craziest bottleneck for this format. I had all three giants covering both bridges and the fire exit, it was nuts 🙃

yeah this one was one of the more intense runs for me personally, but it was good for me and I don’t think any of my future solo runs will be as stressful as this one even if they’re more difficult lol After some post-HCIM reflection I realized that I DO still enjoy solo running, but my next ones are probably gonna have more room for chill than the ironman format! I’ll save the more intense formats for when I duo with someone lol. Plus, solo helps me keep the content going even when my duos aren’t around so don’t worry I won’t be going anywhere :)

Heres a fun little challenge: Get the HIGHEST quota you can possible get by only doing a modded planet. this is something I’m working on next, actually! I missed doing the modded moon showcases, but I wasn’t in love with the way I was tackling them. Then I thought about pushing ourselves to our limits on the modded moons instead of just doing a single day or deadline, which is more in line with the type of content I like doing anyway, so you’ll be seeing some of that soon here :) That said, I’m also not sure if it’ll be interesting to watch us send the same modded moon over and over but I’m down to clown and find out the hard way 😬

@10:00 I really hate giants on Vow too. It’s so easy to get completely lost and panic when being chased by them and then boom, run is over. Thalonius has a lot of good tips for avoiding giants. He goes to Vow a fair bit. You can also hide under the ship and actually click onto the store monitor from the right side of underneath the ship (from a good angle) to get back into the ship. Can be really helpful with ship camping giants and sometimes even dogs. You can take the pin out of a grenade in prep for if you get grabbed by a giant but you’ll also be blinded so it’s risky. Practicing definitely makes it less daunting :) +good luck with the process of making KZbin full-time. You’ve got this! You could also play Don’t Starve as a series with long or short form videos and with friends or solo! There are loads of challenge runs and just casual fun ideas and I think it’d appeal to most of this audience :D
@esmin24008 ай бұрын
@29:00 hahaha really not the best duo to run into 💀
@sheffaustin8 ай бұрын
I watched a LOT of Thalonius’ videos when I was first learning the game because her and Wurps were like the two advanced employees around during the early Lethal Company days! I should watch her Vow only run to see what I can glean from that, but the tips you’ve distilled for me here will be helpful too! I considered buying a stun grenade for that reason, but opted not to because of the cost. But now I think the cost is worth it if it means I can take a riskier trip on Vow and come back with a better return than I did herr 😅 As for Don’t Starve, I played it a bit with my friends and we enjoyed it, but we got derailed because it was around the time the Mistlands update for Valheim came out and we ended up no-lifing a fresh Valheim start instead lol. I’ll consider revisiting the game though! 👀

For giants, you can just pull the stun grenade pin before they pick you up. The stun go off and the giant will drop you. The only bad part is that both of you are blinded
@sheffaustin8 ай бұрын
yeah I thought about buying one for this run, but opted not to. When I revisit this challenge again I’m for sure investing in at least one, because getting scrap on Vow is not as optional as I thought Only really need one for solo though. For Duo+ we’ll just get a radar booster instead

I love your videos Austin and how frequently you upload, one piece of advice is to maybe add more games because while lethal company is obviously doing well right now, you should probably prepare for when that’s no longer the case. Also burnout sucks
@sheffaustin8 ай бұрын
I took a look at the games coming out this year and have some in mind 👀 also some that are out already that I’d like to add to the rotation at some point. Believe me, rounding out my portfolio has been at the forefront of my mind ever since I started gaining traction through Lethal Company. Not because I feel like it’ll die any time soon, but because it’s unwise to operate under the assumption that it won’t. I was confident with taking on less hours at my day job because I’m confident in my gameplan for when Lethal Company is no longer performing well from a content angle. THAT SAID, I DO intend to garner as big of a following as I can from it to help me with my eventual transition 😂 as far as burnout goes, I have a LOT of experience with burnout and what I’ve learned is that burnout isn’t a result of overwork, but rather a result of the work no longer contributing to the vision I have for myself. That’s why I’m able to work so hard on youtube and Lethal Company every day. The channel is as malleable as I intend for it to be and the results are palpable, and there’s nothing more I want to do right now than pour everything I have into this endeavor. Have never been as aligned with a goal and purpose set for myself as I am right now 🔥

Best wishes dude! From what I hear, the two most important components are 1) consistency, and 2) avoiding burnout. So, whatever content is fun for you, uploaded at a recurrence that you can keep up with without getting stressed out :) So if maybe daily uploads are too much, maybe every other day is easier to keep up, etc.
@sheffaustin8 ай бұрын
Thank you! 🙏 I’m considering reducing my upload rate so I can up the quality on each upload, and work on youtube shorts in-between uploads to make up for it. Not that there NEEDS to be compensation for a less frequent upload rate, I’m just a workhorse when I find something I like and I’m liking this youtube thing a LOT more than anything I’ve liked before 😂 But I also don’t want to put out videos I don’t think are worth the watch nor the click. Luckily for me, that just motivates me to get better at creating content, and the whole youtube thing feels like a game to me. and it’s a game that increases my IRL stats and bank account, so I don’t think I can burnout from a game that directly betters my life 😂 I appreciate ya for supporting so early on, always nice to see a new comment from you and I’ll for sure remember that moving forward :)

Hey, it might be a good idea to look into a few ways to branch out, since I've been scared for how vicious KZbin is at times. Maybe consider a Patreon or Ko-Fi, maybe try streaming your runs? Though, I think streaming would distract you and put a different vibe into the runs. My ability to talk to myself and commentate is abysmal, which is the main reason I haven't tried doing this. I was looking into making content myself, and any info would be wonderful!
@sheffaustin8 ай бұрын
Thank you! Just to name drop a few resources, I’m watching and studying videos and lessons from Think Media, VidIQ, Film Booth, and whatever else is recommended to me from those channels I’ve also been a long time listener of Mr. Beast, Gary Vaynerchuk, Vinh Giang, and Dan Koe, and am working my way through Dan Koe’s Digital Writing course as we speak. I would check any combination of those people out since they’re the ones who helped me frame my brain around content and for youtube specifically! but if I were to distill the information into two action items, it’s to create content in a niche that you are so passionate about that you just can’t stop talking about or acting within it, and then learn how to be intentional with and frame that stream of consciousness of yours. That way you never run out of content ideas, and are spending most of your time learning how to actually get people to engage with what you’re putting out. I also recommend starting sooner rather than later, the reps you get at the start will be invaluable to you later! I hope that helps, and I intend to start putting out more youtube growth-type content sometime this year once I have more social proof with this channel if you’re still looking for answers by then. Until then, good luck with your own content journey too! It’s a lot of work but it’s rewarding and fulfilling work too :)

crazy to fake a run and not even complete it all the way through 😅 I guess I could livestream the run but I’m not really concerned about verifying the integrity of my runs lol I’m currently dong eclipse only runs on each moon so I can get better at performing on each moon individually while eclipsed and have a better shot at completing the run next time I try it, so you can check those out as I upload them. If that doesn’t work then I’m not the content creator for you lol

I wanted to do something like that for 1k sub special, but things have gotten so out of hand so fast that a 1k sub special might be awkwardly timed now 😅 maybe I’ll do something like that for 10k. Which I should probably start working on sooner rather than later actually 👀

I think hiverunning is fun to watch if it isn't too far from the ship, could be sped up otherwise. It's also good for people who don't understand hiverunning to see how to do it
@sheffaustin8 ай бұрын
true! watching one run is fine but the rinse and repeat cycle does get repetitive. Unless it’s interrupted by an outdoor entity, but then the entertainment isn’t necessarily from the hiverun, but the presence of a different danger
@benj31398 ай бұрын
For an answer to the qoftd: hiverunning solo is pretty boring, but it's good in a group cause it gives the terminal guy something to do at the start of the day when it's quite safe
@sheffaustin8 ай бұрын
oh that’s a good point! we don’t usually play with a terminal operator so it’s not something I’ve thought about that said, I AM interested in our team operating the terminal more when we tackle group challenges in the future, because using the terminal is more viable than ever right now doesn’t even need to be a “dedicated operator”, but everyone should be able to flex into the role later in the day, during an eclipse, or when a mob trap opportunity presents itself

You should have taken more on vow tbh, if you wanna get better then you have to not be scared and actually try to get as much as you can even if that means staying till later hours.

QOTD: hiverunning is OP imo, I’d usually prefer to retrieve hives while my teammates are looting inside. Easy way to stack up loot early game and it only requires one person to retrieve one so suits a solo run too. Only downside is that it’s time consuming and difficult to retrieve when other monsters are around.
@sheffaustin8 ай бұрын
oh yeah no question that hiverunning is just optimal especially in group play, I was more wondering if people are interested in watching it since there’s not much variance other than the number of hives you might collect on a given moon
@SamuraiRice8 ай бұрын
@@sheffaustin Well it is interesting to watch, i know many people that cant do it yet or are struggling with it. But since it is quite simple and there isnt that much variation in general when it comes to hiverunning im not too sure what other content you could get out of it other than a tutorial. I saw a new mechanic where dropping it from the top corner of your ship from the outside it actually registers it and you dont have to retrieve it when leaving the moon.

I'm watching this outside on my phone and during your walks outside at night, I could see nothing. It's a niche situation for a view to be in but you can in editing brighten up the video and put a bit of text or talk and cover it when you brighten the video during those dark sections! Just found you today so I figured I'd throw a bit of possibly useful info your way
@sheffaustin8 ай бұрын
I just learned how to do that while editing my most recent upload, so I’ll be editing the brightness on all my uploads moving forward :)

giants are still hard monsters, but you can make them a decent amount more manageable if you keep sight on them, and hide behind trees, or rocks or anything else, and wait until it walks away or its back is turned to move toward the entrance/ship, you can get pretty close to them and be safe. ive made many trips between on vow with giants just avoiding line of sight
@Swaeshy8 ай бұрын
also i know ppl said you should have push to talk on but i just think it kind of breaks the immersion of it a bit, i like that keeping your voice down is also part of the game aswell as your footsteps
@sheffaustin8 ай бұрын
yeah if I can make it across the bridge into the actual hills then my odds of surviving them go way up. I’ve played a bit more on Vow since this recording BECAUSE of the difficulty I had and I think the practice is paying off
@sheffaustin8 ай бұрын
yeah I’ve started to just leave voice activation on, it feels weird talking with dogs nearby and I STILL don’t even talk when push to talk is on so it hardly matters either way. Might as well go with the more immersive option lol
