My first impression of MH4U was ruined! MH4U Journal 1

Charge Blade was largely regarded as the most powerful and fun weapon in MH4U. The fluidity and simple feeling is from the lack of, like you said, the sword charging, the lack of hunter arts/wirebug skills, no slide stepping, etc. And the explosion from the Ultra (my nickname for the SAED) was far easier to connect with the monsters. When if comes to the program, I highly suggest you try to make it work on the 3DS capture software. MH4U has some of the best world building and sense of adventure in the series, and while the modern gameplay may feel more mechanically sophisticated, there is a beauty in the more limited tools you have approach and how to deal with monsters that have the upper hand. Hope you have a lot of fun!

The tutorial prompt really helps with adding more charm to the characters in a way that makes starting a new journey with them all the more refreshing to see firsthand. Don’t skip out on the little messages that certain caravan members say on the bottom of the screen when you’re loading from a cleared quest to the village; they make the characters breathe out more soul than a Conga with Parashooms!

There's one I've seen in one of the games, don't remember which one, but it was about a lady who wanted to cook a cake for her husband to celebrate their wedding anniversary but forgot some ingredients, so she asks you to bring 2 whole Wyvern Eggs. Also, gameplay-wise, the old games had some amazing egg quests. Shorter pathways getting blocked with each egg, the most aggressive small monsters spawning ONLY when you reach that room with an egg, the lack of dodge and sliding forcing you to carefully move out of the way of danger. Yes you could kill the large monster, but it's far more engaging if you don't, at least in my opinion.

3:26, you're right, there have been small tweaks to character movements to make things bit faster paced and smoother. My favorite changes are the post roll attacks and the ability to delay your next input longer (in 3u you'd have like half a second to decide if ur gonna roll, continue the combo or let the recovery anim playout, which makes combat much more deliberate and demanding.)

I said this in another video, but you should definitely watch some 4U Charge Blade speed runs to get an overall feel for the iconic 4U CB play style, which relies pretty heavily on headsnipes. Especially videos from Akantorex and CantaPerMe.

More than from the others you played anyways. I think only 1 game has more villager requests than 4U, but you will get to that eventually.

Clarify: No this isnt the "Disable 3D" code tht anyone can find online and is often recommended. But fixes the blurry canteen scene and perf issues. D3000000 08000000 0018B648 000F432E D2000000 00000000 Put this in the Cheats section of the Citra emulator for MH4U, when u 1st boot it up. It disables the 3D effect, Dithering and FSAA. So cutscenes like the canteen dont hav tht weird blur anymore as well as improve general performance. Also turn off the 3D Mode setting in Citra's Config menu. Also recommend lookin online on how to install the version MH4U 1.1 patch via Citra. (its an official patch from Capcom; and cheat wont work without the patch) Then u b good to go.

Hello jay, good thing u started playing mh4u but there are some things that i want to say: 1. If you want to learn more about how to properly use charge blade i suggest u watch tutorial videos. Both gaijin hunter and arrekz gaming did some tutorial videos of it on youtube so it should help you alot. 2. After you gain red in cb you dont always go with SAED move against every monsters since that move can be wasted if you miss it and the ability to guard point(an important mechanic for charge blade). I might be wrong about some aspests in cb but it would be good to watch some tutorials in youtube for better understanding. 3. Beware about the konshus(the brown little insect monsters) whenever they see a hunter they always roll into you and it can be annoying especially when u hunt large monsters so be careful. 4. You should always take notes whenever you encounter npc in the game especially their names and conversion since alot of them are interesting and funny (especially caravaneer, ace squad, guildmarm etc.).

Tips for future egg quest: • Get a set with *'Pro Transporter'* armor skill (I Lucky got a +8 Transporter Talisman in my first playthrough) • Get the *'Felyne Lander'* Food Skill so you'll never break an egg from falling • 1 Dash Juice usually worth 1 and a haft trip from the Egg source to camp.

I remember trying the charge blade in 4U when the game released and playing it for like 2 or 3 ranks without even knowing how to charge the shield. I was so shocked I had completely missed a mechanic, for so long. Apparently in base 4 you couldn't charge the shield (so no busted SAED) in which context it makes sense the mechanic feels a bit tacked on. I dropped the weapon for "being too complex" after that. Picked it up again recently in World though and MAN. That thing absolutely slaps. If you ever go back to World, the fluidity of CB is insane in comparison. SA feeling slower in 4U comes from a slight change in the inputs. They switched around the vertical-horizontal combo inputs a bit, making it feel slower if you do the same buttons as 3U, but faster if you adapt. They switched around moves on a couple weapons 3U and 4U dual blades also have a different tempo on the same button presses. It's super interesting going back.

I started with 4U and god its been the best thing I've played. Nothing has come close to being as fun or jam packed with content to enjoy as 4U was, GU was a close second but mainly because 2/3rds were copy pasted from 4U. Im sad that World/Iceborne and Rise/Sunbreak havent had even a 1/10th of the amount of or type of content that 4U had along with it. Ah yes, the Hey Jay arc where he abandons the SA for good and becomes a certified CB main! We welcome you with open arms, brother lol! I used to be a SA main myself in 3rd gen (MHP3rd), but when I first tried the CB out in Generations (played it before 4U), I instantly fell in love and it has been my main ever since. I used to basically main a different weapon in each gen: GS in the very first game, then LS in 2nd gen, then SA in 3rd gen and then from the 4th gen onwards, it has been the CB. I play all weapons, but the CB is still the one I always have the most fun and am most confident with, I just love its versatility and moveset too much! Glad you're enjoying it too, you can always main both at the end of the day lol

I say go with the 3DS for the simple reason that I think using the lower screen changes the game for the better like having a radial menu. I would recommend getting a cover that makes the 3DS easier to grip and an improved joystick though.

Its a neat chase and planning things out (like waiting for the monster to come to your zone then booking it) was fun. The fatalis quest is a nice payoff too.

I didn't mind how World lessened the amount of them, but I wish Rise had the Egg Delivery Requests be mandatory, put item boxes in sub-camps, and have Pro Transporter still be a skill on Kulu Yaku armor. I also wish the game had slay small monster quests for all species for both High and Low Rank.

I strongly recommend switching the pledge to "all elder dragons". That way you don't miss anything and you don't have to go into the separate grind system. Also the SAED is a little wasteful in this game, you'd be better off learning to cancel into the AED. Don't neglect the other axe attacks either. You'll be Charge Blading in no time!

So Heads up for Hey Jay, you can fight 2 versions of Fatalis in High rank, and 3 Versions in Grank but one of the versions, in Grank is a stronger and technically different version than it is in High rank, so technically there are 4 different kinds of Fatalis fights. Some just event quests some tied to quest lines. Have fun with the Grank Fatalises btw some of the best fights in 4U.

@@johnreyiverflores1219 If I recall, as my 3DS is dead and can't play 4U anymore, 2 of the three Fatalises were tied to even quests, I believe one was unlocked by finishing the scrolls which you are given after Gogamzios, don't worry the scrolls complete over time after doing Grank hunts. Normal Fatalis and Old Fatalis are toed behind Event quests you should be able to get them from the cat in your room, also Grank Gold rathian is tied to an Episodic quest which are downloadable like event quests just quest lines instead.

In short in the intro: You have hired the guy in the orange to ferry across the great desert to Val Habar, a hunters hub that moves periodically, to register as a hunter since you are currently not a hunter at all. And as 3 small side notes: The tutorials in this game are written as the characters would speak which is really cool, and not all in quest dialogue is tutorial stuff so I highly suggest paying attention to it and not just skipping it all the time. And secondly, Switch Axe is still pretty good in this game as it still has it's auto mind's eyes ability so keeping one on standby is probably a good idea, 3rd Insect Glaive is utterly busted in this game!

That's actually quite important because White Fatalis is only available in one of these DLC Quests. The FEEL of the weapons in 4U is the number 1 reason why its still my favorite MH game. Everything just feels like the right weight. - GS feels heavy in hit charges - LS feels like you need precision - SnS feels fast and in attacks and utility - DBs ALSO feels fast but with a touch of aggresion because of the longer attack strings - Lance feels direct and sturdy in both blocking and pokes - GS shelling REALLY makes you feel the kick of each blast, yet also gives the feeling that even with the kick your hunter is still in control - Hammer is like GS but the mobility is just right and BONK - HH, funnily enough, makes me feel the same need for precision as LS but just BONK - CB feels like a well oiled and snappy machine - SwAxe gives the feeling of Weight like the GS for Axe mode then changes to the aggressiveness of DBs in sword mode - IG makes you feel like you can take everything down to the ground And for the range weapons... I like the screen shake when in critical distance... I wasn't really a ranged hunter back then lol. Anyways. tl:dr the weapons really feel "real" in your controls. For me it just feels like from Iceborne to Sunbreak, the weapons kinda felt "floaty". even when not counting the Silkbind attacks in Sunbreak. Also as their Debut game, CB and IG we're kinda overtuned lol

I just started yesterday on citra as well! I own it on 3ds but I wasnt enjoying it as much as I feel I should've been on there so I hopped on PC and the difference was night and day. I'm using a custom version of citra with HD textures and a cheat to reduce dithering so it is a pretty amazing experience, and I can import my file to my laptop when I want to leave the house with it. Also using charge blade, and ALSO just fought seltas! (Haven't come across a great jaggi yet though?)

Idk what you read, but I can tell you: Once you DO configure Citra correctly (which is not that hard, if you follow some guides. There's even a dedicated Discord Server for it), the experience is LEAGUES better than on original hardware (both for you and the viewers), and I honestly can't remember any annoying bugs or other oddities, that were still present when everything was up and running. Especially with the high-res texture packs. Heck, I even played it in 3D-VR just because I could, and it was still heckin smooth! If you care and don't know where to start, feel free to answer to this comment and I'll go into further detail. Otherwise, whatever way you choose: Happy Hunting!

Fun fact: In base MH4 (in Japan only), Charge Blade did not have the ability to charge the shield or perform an SAED -- that was newly added in MH4U ("MH4G" in Japan). So the Charge Blade's complexity has actually increased quite rapidly between games. As a "4th gen" hunter myself, I prefer Dah'ren over Jhen, in much the same way that you might prefer World Alatreon over MH3U Alatreon. Dah'ren is "Jhen, but better". It can do its sand-breath attack at any rank, and can shoot out a rock to disable one of the stations on your ship. Plus, MH4 notifies you when the ship's integrity crosses certain thresholds, so you always have a bit of warning before potentially failing the quest. (Yes, the hunt is basically identical otherwise.) Fun fact about Charge Blade: You may know you can counterattack after blocking an attack (unless heavy recoil), but you can also do the sidestep evade out of it instead of a counter, depending on what the situation calls for. In fact, you can sidestep after a guard even if you don't actually receive any attacks (which other guard-capable weapons, like Lance, cannot do).

YES, EMBRACE THE CHARGE BLADE, JOIN THE GUARD POINTING, SAED-ING, KO KING OF MH4U. And you know what feels more exhilarating than an SAED? an SAED triggered from a guardpoint. Monster attack about to hit you? denied, and you'll give back a big fat SAED to the monster. Also I think getting a G rank gold crown is also a good secondary/fallback pledge in addtion to the fatalis pledge. It still takes a lot of effort in fighting fun huge monsters to get to gold crown, like big snek and an oily dragon.

Sadly on Citra there's still no fix for town cutscenes. Most other cutscenes work fine, but canteen doesn't. Now I have not checked their discord in a bit, but that's the gist of it. There's other issues as well like the framepacing does slow down when you go to the smithy and the longer you play the higher chance the entire game starts to slow down a bit. But again, check if there's any fix for these, but if not the 3DS version should still work better.

The one im sharing was done by a Hex editor 3DS forum group tht gets rid of not only the 3D effect but the dithering tht causes the blurry canteen scene. As well as get rid of those weird tiny dots u see on the screen when moving about the game. Maybe read my comment as well instead of assuming its the exact same code tht Marleene was probably talkin about.

I don't believe you can fix the blurry cutscene issue on citra though it happens mainly on the cooking cutscenes and I think one of the in quest cutscenes so.. it shouldn't be a big issue. EDIT: Nevermind I found a cheat which fixes that

I believe during the stream you set 3d depth to 1% instead of 0%. Tried that out myself and it killed my performance so maybe that hindered things a bit?

So just as a note, Charge Blade is kind of super OP in 4U, so you’re likely to end up feeling that at some point later. Citra emulation for 4U in particular is pretty horrid, yeah. The biggest thing you’ll need to do is fiddle with the graphics settings. Theres quite a few graphics fixing options in citra already, but the problem is that the compatibility for 4U on citra is extremely shaky and unstable, and is known to have several graphics issues concerning both the quality as you saw and a bunch of rendering issues. So, I suggest just going back on the 3ds and skipping the tutorial for the sake of consistency and mental safety lol

Definitely helps that charge blade was ridiculously overpowered in 4U, from what i''ve heard at least, it did basically the same sever damage as greatsword, while also having way more KO values than hammer....... which is dumb, and then the shield was still really good.

@@keithcunningham3131 What weapon would you say was the best then? The only two i ever hear anything about is Charge Blade, how it made hammer basically obsolete in that part of the generation, and Insect Glaive. I never played 4U, only heard things about it, so im genuinely curious.

Tips for farming gore magala on a. Steppe, use fire element hammer and always trying to R hold release jump attack. Gore magala usually spawn in area 3 then go to 7. When you fight gore in area 7, try to fight it on the lowest level of the arena and use r hold release jump attack while it attacking your palico.

You don't have to charge your sword in the later games. It's just an extra thing that you can do if you have nothing better to do. SAED don't get any stronger by charging the sword. What makes CB much more fun to play for me in world/Iceborne is the slide.

The Egg quest fatalis is an HR Crimson, so it's much easier. You can get him out of the way sooner or wait till you get to G rank and fight the super version of Crimson, which (I kid you not) has Fire serpent spirits or whatever they are. It's such a cool fight, but it's also a 4U G rank quest which means dark souls level of damage to you. So hope you know when to dodge and block, cause you'll be carting a lot if not lol

I dropped mh4u, i probably need to change my weapon. Currently use lance and while i love that evade 3 skill, the damage is pretty much horrible because it takes so much space. I probably gonna play mh4u again after i finished with mhp3rd
