wow, very high quality render and simulation. Had fun watching this. one idea for the next one, I love the screws being not completely inside the wood, but where they are outside some fuzzy wood would spread out I suppose. Just another detail :)

@@loofa4775 Yes, I've seen the other simulations too. I think this one is a mix of perfect lighting, material and those imperfect wood fittings and screw nails that makes it just perfect.

Nice work! I’m really curious, how did you get the interaction between the marbles and the elastics to work? Trying to get rigid bodies and cloth simulations to interact has always been a nightmare.

You’re right it’s a nightmare! There are invisible rigid bodies to stop the marbles from running through the rubber bands.

The wood texture is fantastic. But it's not procedural - or is it? The attention to detail is incredible too. Each screwand their casings are turned differently, and i think, the heights also are probably not exactly the same (i can't see that in the video). Are the rubber bands realized with a ClothSim or with SoftBody?

Thanks! The wood is image texture. I get it from Polligon. The rubber band is cloth sims. Making those little bounces gave me a headache but I'm glad you notice it and the screws detail.

@@alan__luk First time i see a texture from poliigon in the wild - maybe, if you look close enough, there are hidden donuts ;-) Regarding the screws and their casing: I've also seen, that the casings are not identic. Some are more opened then others, and the top corners are slightly bended on some ones. Did you model the crossed slot at the top of the screws or is it a displacement with random mapping? (Or did they come from the gears add-on?) The bounces at the rubber bands - yes, i understand. There is so much effort (and time) necessary to find the best settings - and then you can see it only for a few frames. (Not to speak about all the folks who watch this at their mobiles with tiny screens and lack 90% of all the details). Anyway, its hard to say if this is a render or real. (I know its a rendering - in reality every one can build and record it, but as a rendering there are not much guys who are able to do that .. ;-) )

I model the screws and bend some of them in the closeup shot. In my experience, adding randomness which people won't notice is the key of photorealistc:)
