It’s free. That’s how I started using it. After a while (two years maybe?) I started supporting the foundation with the monthly donation. In my opinion it’s all been worth it and more. For example I ditched Pinnacle video editing software as it was expensive and most unreliable. Not even frequent saves saved you when the whole SW corrupted. So I learned to use Blender for video editing too, still learn, but already have saved a lot of money, nowadays even time, just that way. Blender made MOHO, former Anime Studio, obsolete for me. The list goes on. Hats off to the development team and the awesome community!

I tried Blender a couple of years ago as an alternative to Cinema 4d which I could no longer afford. I couldn’t get to grips with it at the time but since the 2.8 upgrade I’ve tried it again and things are beginning to drop into place. You have to persevere, 3D has a fairly big learning curve. I’ve found Blender very versatile and as a relative newbie I’m breaking it down into small bite size chunks for each project I try. The Blender artwork out there is amazing but you shouldn’t run before you can walk.

I'm really glad that 11 year old me (16 years ago) decided to start playing with Blender. As the years went by and more and more companies started investing into Blender I was able to see all the changes in the software and community and I love it. There are still things that I was not even aware of and with Blender 2.4 (with archaic YafaRay) then 2.5 and now 2.8 I still got to learn and discover new things (I have mixed feelings about this but well, they had to change the archaic software UI someday)

I have a question. I have a lot of ideas for really short little videos. Like under 5 mins each.. I would like to animate them. I thought about drawing anime but that seems like that would take longer than animating.. maybe? At least if i went the animated route i could use some of the models/resources more than once. Would using blender or some kind of animation software be a possible way to do this?

Are those videos from 1:10 through 1:23 from modeling tutorials? If so, can you share the links to them? I am having trouble with creating proper beveling inside of relatively complex geometry, and I suspect that it may have to do with the lack of edge or face loops within specific parts of the mesh. There has to be a way to define custom loops as it appears to be done in your video clips, but I cannot find any help with this. I do hope that you can help point me in the right direction.
