My First MONTH In Coral Island

In this video, I played my first MONTH in the lovely Coral Island. I met a bunch of really interesting villagers, helped to purify the island, and pursued my one greatest goals of becoming a chicken. This game is currently in early access, so not completed yet, but I still wanted to give it a try and see what it was all about!

It looks like it could be a green crested lizard which they have in Indonesia. My first thought was Day Gecko or Jackson Chameleon, as we have a ton of those in Hawai'i but then I found out that this is an Indonesian based dev. Either way, that lizard is hella cute.

Hi, thanks for playing this game. so Coral Island is based on Indonesia Folklore, do you ever heard of Bali? Bali is in Indonesia, all the shrine in coral island is inspired from shrine that exist in Bali, Indonesia. Sesajen is Indonesia word for Offering, you will find a lot of sesajen in bali especially in front of people houses, you put offerings as offerings to the gods for the blessings that have been given, it is a culture and religion things (hinduism). (im Indonesian but im not living in Bali and Im not Hindu, so if someone from Bali saw this comments, please cmiiw) a lof of those carvings on the shrine is the hallmark of shrine or house gates sculpture in Bali. Because the developer is from Indonesia, therefore they want to bring up Indonesian folklore/culture. Balap Karung is a traditional game from Indonesia that is often played especially during Indonesia's independence day. Balap is racing, and Karung is sacks. and also Tumpeng is rice cooked with spices so that it turns yellow, then molded into triangles and surrounded with delicious side dishes, tumpeng always there for happy occasions. some players are also seen wearing traditional Indonesian pieces/clothes. and also one thing that I love the most from this game is actually the characters in this game really reflect the diversity of the Indonesian population, which has almost more than a hundred tribes with different complexion.

I knew there was a lot of stuff from Indonesian culture integrated into the game because the Devs are based in Indonesia, but it's so cool to learn about the specifics!! Thanks for letting me know, though, I'm definitely gonna look into some of this stuff more. It's SO exciting to have a farming sim that includes this kind of detailed representation, definitely one of the things I loved most about the game! 😁

@@CharlieBarley yea, even we Indonesian were also very happy when this game came out, never thought there would be a farming game that included indonesian culture in it such as Balap Karung, its such a memorable game that I used to play and compete when i was a kid.

I hope you come back and play another month or do 100 days or something. Its still in Early Access, but the whole game has had a lot of updates and polishing since you made this video. All the characters have heart events up to 8, there are more animals to unlock, new areas, crops, and such. Its really great! I'm super happy to did your first month. Hopefully you'll do a series when the game comes out in full release. :)

This game looked so cute since the first moment I saw it, but the more I look at it the more upset I get. It has so many cool ideas like ecological focus and the visuals are stunning- why the fk did it have to lift some things straight from Stardew Valley? Like, I guess with some things like mines with monsters and bringing things to blacksmith to open and corporation taking over small town and museum donations and gathering bundles are pretty on the surface ideas (even if done remarkably similar to ST), but the farm layout and chicken coop layout is just stealing. And the way many resources look? "ST in 3D". I am still on the fence if I want to buy it, I love the art and characters and magic and character customization and the "help nature heal" storyline, but goddamn.

This is a weird critique, and I feel like you wouldn't believe this so much if you actually looked at the game, especially at the developer notes in the Discord. If you also knew about Stardew's origin, you'd realise it isn't entirely original and ConcernedApe credits a lot of other games for many of the ideas. Don't put two brilliant individual/'small' creators against each other for doing very different takes on a game genre that is pretty stock standard and can be hard to make 'original' versions of.

@@miaa7968 it's not when certain elements are carbon copies. Yes, they have a lot of cool ideas which makes the game unique and interesting (to the point where I tried it for myself and decided to buy), and some that can be named "transformative". But I've played enough games in the genre that some elements of CI literally made me uncomfortable like an uncanny valley to the point where I wasn't sure I want to play it, even if the gameplay looks like a mix of 3 games I really like. Sure, maybe "stealing" is too strong a word, and maybe some of those were done as purposeful nods to other games, others just subconsciously and the rest just emerged as best ways to implement a gameplay after a few different versions. But I don't have to know their artistic intent from Discord to form my opinion. Just as you don't have to agree with me for my critique to be valid.

Got coral island today and it has been so much fun! Although, yeah I got lost a lot too lol, but the villagers are so interesting and my favorite part is you can talk to the little cats and dogs roaming around town! I love them lol

It really isn't! I was an Alpha tester and the story is incredibly different and based on real cultural experiences and backgrounds from the Indonesian developers.

you really shouldn't judge it before playing it, its different. the only thing it has similar with stardew valley are the mechanics. but its mostly based on Indonesian Folklore

That abandoned cabin is to the left of the mines and the monkeys that run it sell a few different things. I am on a quest to get enough money for the panda suit! Love your playthrough!! This is literally copy paste Stardew valley but with different artstyle and i love it but also there is so many things that are literally stardew valley like the blacksmith giving furnace recipe lol or the bundle thing (which is cool cause gives more to do in the game!) but i loved the cherry blossom event IT LOOKS SO BEAUTIFUL OMIGOSH i cant wait to play this game i do love my farming sims 🥺💖

I can wait for this game to come to Switch. Sure it is the last of all the consoles but man this game looks and feels really nice. Also while for all the kick-starter I was team Rafael, Mark is pushing all my buttons and now I feel torn.
