My first successful trading strategy. Make sure you subscribe because I'm going to cover some failures I experienced. When I started off trading the UK was still behind the USA when it came to barrier to entry as far as trading was concerned. When I started off trading I got into direct market access and I could put in the orders directly into the exchange. A broker allowed me to put in the orders directly into the exchange wrapped up as a CFD. OK.
At that time the FTSE mining companies were moving massively and I remember stocks like Xstrata, BHB Billiton, RioTinto, Anglo American... A lot of these were often moving in synch; I would look at these stocks and pick the 3 that were most moving in synch. Then I would look at the second tier miners; the ones I actually wanted to trade. So I would trade these second tier miners based on the movements of the bigger miners. How would I replicate this in the current market environment? I wouldn't do it on the big exchanges.

Thanks for bringing back memories Mark. Other traders and I used to put crazy orders on SETS that got filled at ridiculous prices. I loved it. Although when I was watching the twin towers on the news being attacked from the dealing desk, one of my friends made a mistake and sold stock we didnt have (on sets) we found out days later. Interestingly, the price had gone down and we rebought the stock making the firm a lot of money! Big bonuses back in those days!

Great idea for a video series, thanks for sharing Mark! I always find other successful traders' stories interesting. This is a great strategy, correlation is good fun (when it works lol). Hard to do in the bigger markets these days with all the algo and arbitrage trading. But there are ways. I'm mainly a fx trader but I use this strategy in crypto from time to time with decent success. Watch Bitcoin, wait for a big move, trade the liquid altcoins that lag the move. Good times! Seems to work much "cleaner" there than in fx or stocks as the markets are much more ineffecient. Very simple but effective. Also, trading the Jpy pairs based on the S&P 500's movements seems profitable these days. I trade it on my discretionary account when things heat up. When the S&P is in trouble, selling non-majors against Jpy is a good day trading strategy. And when it's on a tear, selling jpy and buying "risk-on" pairs like AUD is a good move. Obviously timing is key for stop loss placement. Lots of ideas can come from this approach to trading! Thanks again Mark. Looking forward to other videos like this

Yes for sure I thought I was right about 2nd or 3rd tier trading. You just confirmed my suspect but how in tune are other exchanges? I realized early that not all exchanges are equal. Can you Mark do a video about why I can look at 4 or 5 different exchanges and see a different price action? Not just basic volume of each other but advantages and disadvantages. Thank you so much for all your hard work I have been a follower of you for years and you have provided me with insight that is priceless.
