I'm watching The Green Mile for the first time ever!
I can't wait to experience this iconic film for the first time! The Green Mile is such a beloved film by so many people and I can't wait to for you all to watch along with me
Paul, the head guard of a prison, meets an inmate, John, an African American who is accused of murdering two girls. His life changes drastically when he discovers that John has a special gift.
Paul Edgecomb (Tom Hanks) walked the mile with a variety of cons. He had never encountered someone like John Coffey (Michael Clarke Duncan), a massive black man convicted of brutally killing a pair of young sisters. Coffey had the size and strength to kill anyone, but not the demeanor. Beyond his simple, naive nature and a deathly fear of the dark, Coffey seemed to possess a prodigious, supernatural gift. Paul began to question whether Coffey was truly guilty of murdering the two girls.

@@MovieJoob Unfortunately we still punish people after their time is done. Now, I am all for keeping tabs on people who have trouble understanding boundaries and the meaning of "no". By all means, keep tabs on them and keep them in a register. But every other former criminal should be given a clean slate, in every sense of the word. No record to inform employers about, no judgment from the society around you, and most importantly, no alienation because of former actions. That is the number 1 factor that drives people to commit new crimes. Returning to their old network where they are accepted. Edit: almost forgot, love the reaction, keep them coming. "Gran Torino" Is a really great movie I think you would enjoy :)

Well done for making it through this one. A great reaction to a wonderful movie. Very hard to watch in places with Del's execution being one of the most brutal scenes and seems to go on for ever . Del's relationship with Mr Jingles must be one of the most touching relationships in all film. So many great performances. Stephen King has called this his favourite adaptation of one of his books.

As is now so obvious, John Coffey is a Christ figure. He appeared out of nowhere, as if he had just “fallen out of the sky.” He had foreknowledge of future events. He can see the good or evil that is in men’s hearts. He can heal illness and afflictions and resurrect the dead (if it’s not too late). He is innocent, with a pure soul, yet he is made to suffer and die because of the sins and wickedness of others. And even his initials are J.C., just like Jesus.

Same writer, director producers, and many minor actors also in Shawshank Redemption! Dean is the sniper in Saving Private Ryan with Hanks, and also the reporter in Once we were Soldiers!😮😮. He did a really beautiful, I think True story movie, about a pilot crashing in northern Canada or Alaskan wilderness, and was saved and helped by a native Inuit young girl. I won't ruin the end of it for u! The old trustee in this is Harry Dean Stanton! He's been in every movie made since the silent era!😁. Dillinger, Red Dawn, Godfather 2,this, and many others!

There are many Stephen King books adapted for film. Some of the kesser known are "Dead Zone," "Thinner," "Needful Things," " Salem's Lot," (two versions are available), "Pet Sematary," "Storm of the Century," "Carrie," and more. I read "The Green Mile" before it became a film. You should consider reading it if you have the time. The book goes into detail about the backstory of death row prisoners, Arlen Bitterbuck and Eduard Delacroix. The scene where Del is about to walk the green mile, he tells the guards that he wish he had met them at an earlier time in his life. He seemed to believe his future would have been different because the guards showed respect and compassion. He believed he would have been a better person.

(in my opinion Paul's punishment of life came from God) in all honesty Paul was in a no win situation, if he didn't execute John and let him escape people would have hunted him down and killed him too. If he executes John he gets punished by God for killing an Angel. It was no easy choice but I'm sure after he dies he will be forgiven by the Lord for taking his punishment. Having to live past all your loved ones is a fate worse than death.

John Coffey's initials are "JC" Jesus Christ. The parallels or similarities of the two are close. In the book King briefly covers why the Chief and Del are on death row. 5. This movie was nominated for Best Supporting Actor (MCD)😇 and Best Cast but unfortunately neither won.😭😭 6. Players in other King adaptations: Jeffery DeMunn: Shawshank Redemption, The Mist, Storm of the Century and William Sadler: Shawshank Redemption, The Mist. David Morse: The Langoliers. Patricia Clarkson played Margarat White in King's remake of Carrie". Needless to say, it was a much different part. 7. Goof: Electricity makes the body contract. Del wouldn't be able to scream. I know it' just for the movie because of the length of the execution scene. 8. IRL James Cromwell is a vegan and didn't want to grill meat for the BBQ scene but was told that in 1935 people actually ate meat so he agreed to have some on the grill. 9. RE Percy: Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. KARMA's a Bitch. BTW Kudos to Doug Hutchison for the great job of playing Percy.👌EVERYONE hates him. 10. John also rescues the other patients at Briar Ridge. 11. IRL both David Morse and James Cromwell are about the same height as Michael Clark Duncan (RIP). They used planks, a small bed and smaller chair along with trick photography to make John taller. 12 The scene where John takes Mr. Jingles for safe keeping before Del's execution, they used a real mouse, and it pooped on Paul's shoulder, and he brushed it off. 13. Now we know what the "day old is fine" dry toast is for. 14 EVERYBODY cries and has to take time to reflect. Congratulations you just experienced. the GREATEST MOVIE EVER. 1:40 - Girl, I hate to say this.... but each decade since the 1950s has been defined by what was on television. In the 50s, it was the "White nuclear family with precocious children, a single family home in the suburbs with a white picket fence." shows. The 60s saw the rise of the Hippy movement and colour TV shows, but it was the "sitcom" that dominated the later part of the decade. The 70s was the "Disco" era filled with Variety shows. The 80s brought Cable TV into homes, and more diversely cast sitcoms came around. The 90s..... Oh. My. God. It was dominated by "Trash TV", with tons of shows just like Springer (look up Morton Downey Jr. if you want to see who originated that whole thing). It became popular to watch "regular people" self destruct in front of a live studio audience. It was like a car accident, you WANT to look away, but you just can't seem to.

So, a guy with initials J.C. healed the sick and injured, did no wrong, and died for the wrongs of another, then his story was told by a guy named Paul. Where ever did Steven King come up with such an idea?!

Even though this isn’t a true story, there are endless recorded events throughout all of history of God doing extraordinary miracles, miracles that people attributed to Him, not unlike this powerful, though fictitious, movie. Thanks for the sincere reaction.

I always assume the power to keep Mister Jingles alive wouldn't last as long in a human (being so much bigger); but I worry sometimes. What if it does? It's magic. Why would it make sense? If it's a 1 for 1 equivalence, Paul might live for thousands of years.

"Why is he so heated?" In previous generations before your parents, entire families died because the wrong mouse got into their home and brought a disease that either it or its parasites carried... so if this were based on reality instead of fiction, every guard would have been roughly as heated as the terrible one was, but less unhinged... and they all would have been placing traps and trying to kill that *literal* vermin. Yeah, it's cute... until you notice all of its feces and urine all over everything you touch and in all of your eating, food prep, and food storage areas. Then they're not so cute.

Yea the Del Execution was disgusting . They cooked him from the inside out, All the guards crying at Johns even the guy flipping the switch and the Warden not being there tells you everything on how they all felt about his execution
@damon6126

As horrifying as Del's execution was, if anyone was deserving, it was him. Though the movie never mentioned his crime, the books detailed what he did. He raped and murdered a little girl and then set her body on fire to hide the crime. The fire ended up taking the lives of 6 other people (including 2 children). That said, this is one film that I can say the movie is as good as the books.

Percy has to be one of the greatest movie villains of all time. I'm hard pressed to think of another who is so despicable and whom I hate half so much. Doug Hutchison was amazing.

12:52 About the protagonist not seeing a doctor. This movie is set a few years before approval and industrialization of antibiotics. And he has an infection, probably not the first one in his life. He knows he'll have to wait his own body fight the infection off.

Real talent in this picture, so much so that Doug Hutchison (Percy) got tons of hate mail for months after this movie came out.

The book (or series of books) hits just as hard if not harder. Seriously difficult to read it through the waterfall of tears. Also, in the book, anyone healed by John is functionally immortal but can still die from car crashes or accident/violencce.

Agreed. And I did appreciate in the book that Mr Jingles & Paul lived as long as they did because they were healed by him. Not because because he intentionally passed something on to Paul. The book also does a great job of allowing you to feel sorry for Del’s suffering at the end but reminds you that most of them did horrible shit to end up on the green mile.

As repellent as the character of Percy is, the actor who plays him is even worse. When he was in his fifties, he married a sixteen year-old child.

there's one flaw in this movie no one is aware of. guards DO NOT possess or wear guns inside of jails or prisons. visiting officers leave their firearms outside the doors in little lockers and the guards have restricted access to firearms through a special, locked room if needed for emergencies. wearing guns inside would pose a horrible risk an inmate would relieve a guard of their gun and use it against the guards. and on death row you have some really scared and desperate people who would have nothing to lose by shooting a guard. its a minor flaw and its still a wonderful film. thanks for the video. i like your glasses. i wear glasses too. we cool people who wear glasses gotta stick together.
