This story was Stephen King's homage to "Of Mice and Men", with a giant, childlike character, seemingly comprised of pure goodness. Stephen King ... some adaptations have been absolutely horrible (too scared to name any for fear of stepping on treasured memories 🥴). Some are amazing like this one, Shawshank Redemption (also just an amazingly written story ... while i usually like the ideas King has in his stories ... sometimes they can be ... ummm ... too vulgar? Which feels strange to admit), Stand by Me, Misery, the Mist ... i think I've heard too many stories about Kubrick and the Shining to prefer it over the book, but the polarizing Doctor Sleep was a joy to me. Tom Hanks ... between A League of their Own and this i have to wonder how many movies have scenes of this man peeing. ... i mean, the whole cast was amazing. i like to see David Morse play a good guy ... and Sam Rockwell just chewing the scenery in the prison scenes! If you want more of him, i could recommend Moon, and maybe Mr Right. This was definitely a must see movie. Can't tell you how satisfying it is to watch you see it for the first time.🎉

John was taking pain away from Del during the botched execution. That’s why he was reacting like that, he was trying to take it away

Michael Clarke Duncan as a villain? The movie "Daredevil"(2003) he plays a villain. Michael is the best part of the movie, everything else is bad. 💜💜💜

Michael Duncan played the villain Kingpin in the movie Daredevil with Ben Affleck. Not a great movie but you want a movie that Mr. Duncan plays an antagonist….here ya go.

I was looking through your playlist and I didn't see "The Shawshank Redemption". Another movie based on a Steven King story that I like even better than "The Green Mile". If you haven't watched it, give it a try.

What scares J.C is the Lord of Fly's, which resides in the Dark. What's coming out of his mouth are the Fly's.. Bible talks about Devils with many Wings coming out like fly's, and with many names... One of the names is Lucifer. John Coffey stands for "Jesus Christ." He represents the new Messiah, someone sent to us two thousand years after by Mighty God.

vaguely related as its prison related and also based on a Stephen King short story I believe, HUGELY recommend watching The Shawshank Redemption if you havent already, for my money the best movie EVER made bar none!

Back story on some of the condemned inmates: the Cherokee beat another man to death using a chunk of concrete; the Cajun committed rape, arson and multiple murders; John Coffey's backstory is more problematic, but he was ready to escape his miserable existence! (Please to notice NOBODY sheds 1 tear for William Wharton! And what about Percy Wetmore?)

If you want to see Michael Clark Duncan as a villain, watch Sin City. In fact, even if you don't want to see him as a villain, you should watch Sin City.

There is a line from the book "The Black Gryphon" by Mercedes Lackey that has always stuck with me. It seems fitting with John Coffey. "Who heals the healer?" There is a point where you just get tired of your gifts of healing. A point where your gift seems to become a curse, because you have seen too much, experienced too much. Where you're just tired of having to put people back together, because of what you have to experience of them being broken in the first place. I think John Coffey was in the same place.

Very nice reaction, may I suggest you watch The Book thief if haven’t already or Something the lord made with Alan Rickman(prof snape) It’s a true story of the very first “blue baby” surgery was done. Both are very good movies and worth the time.

Powers of deduction from Percy asking about the sponge and the response being to never fry an inmate without it coupled with my assumption that Percy just wants to see people hurt and suffer

It's a short story. You've seen photos of Stephen King right, of how featureless he seems? I've always said, his books are his horcruxes and with each one he writes, he loses something like Voldy. Hearts in Atlantis is a good movie based on his books. Has Anthony Hopkins.

John Coffey is a Christ figure, Vero. He appeared out of nowhere, as if he had just “fallen out of the sky.” He had foreknowledge of future events. He can see the good or evil that is in men’s hearts. He can heal illness and afflictions and resurrect the dead (if it’s not too late). He is innocent, with a pure soul, yet he is made to suffer and die because of the sins and wickedness of others. And even his initials are J.C., just like Jesus. (Recall the scene where John is watching his first-ever flicker show, and the light from the movie projector is illuminating his head from behind, just like a halo: The Christian symbolism is unmistakable.)

Just so you know....those people weren't coming to the execution for entertainment. Those were the family members of the victims of the prisoner being executed. Along with prison officials, govt officials and perhaps a journalist or two. I personally wouldn't want to see it, but it is done to give a small amount of closure to those victims' families.

Great reaction. As far as the book, you will be disappointed, it is a short story a novella. This adaptation goes much further in the story than the book. King helped with this adaptation, but the screenplay gave more than the source material.
