Overview - Big thanks to Captain Shane for taking Andrew and I out on the glades for an awesome day of fishing! The spot we fished is super secret and Captain Shane said he's never seen anyone besides him fish it, and he guides for a living, so that makes this feat especially impressive. In fact, he made me and Andrew meet him at a bass pro shops and then blind folded us before driving us to the location.
JK :P but for real, we did have to meet him at a BPS because it's literally impossible to find the canal, we had to take a dirt road down 8 miles before reaching the "boat ramp," aka, a slightly paved path going into the water.
Anyways, right off the bat my buddy starts with a senko and proceeds to slay bass anywhere from 1 lb up to just about 5 lbs. After seeing him land a 4 lber I cut off my popper and tie on the never fail GY senko. I catch plenty of 1-1.5 bass myself, but the bite slowed down once the sun came up high in the sky.
We made a move deep into the canal where Captain Shane then recommended one of his goto florida HAWG baits, the gambler big EZ. Right off the bat I hook into a nice 3 lber, followed by several more bass even though the bite was tough.
Near the end of the day, Captain Shane showed us why he's the man when it comes to the everglades as he picked up a spinning rod and expertly enticed two bass to strike in a span of 5 minutes when Andrew and I hadn't had a bite for the past 45 :P
According to Captain Shane, we came at the worst possible time for glades fishing. So even though we had an awesome day by my standards, we could've had an even better day during the right time of the year. Captain Shane's clients have pulled bass over 10 lbs out of this spot, so Andrew and I will definitely have to come back sometime in the future to slay some of those monsters!!
