Bob would be so proud of this painting! That is a majestic mountain if I've ever seen one! His method uses very specific supplies, so yes, I would recommend trying those if you do it again. Look up his one-hour instructional video which goes more in-depth on the materials he uses and he slows down the process for home viewers.

It's absolutely stunning! I have done a few and have them hanging around the house. I even did one with the family where everyone had a canvas and followed the same tutorial and it was so interesting to see how different the paintings were from each other! We did pause it after every single step because Bob was FASTTTTT!!

Wow, I love that idea! It’d make for a really fun family activity.

You’ll be happy to know, often Bob had a baby squirrel in his pocket while filming. His name was Peapod 🥰 He sometimes would take him out on camera to say hello or feed him.

Bob Ross was such a treasure. I never tried to follow his painting tutorials when they originally aired because there was no way to pause or rewind them back then. It would have driven me mad trying to keep up. You did a great job!
@Frankenzebra Жыл бұрын
I don't think I'd realised that before when I've watched episodes but watching Jamie struggle just realised that very few people would have had a VHS recorder when it was being aired. Major props to anyone who did follow along live!

I would love to see you do more of this! You nailed that mountain! Looks stunning! It's so scary how he starts it with just a blob of black or dark blue but then it all comes together in the end. (I think you're totally allowed to pause him btw)

There is no way I could do that without pausing. Your painting looks great.

I’ve never tried a Bob Ross painting tutorial before. But, everyone I’ve watched (including you, now) is flabberghasted by his ability to lay out paint in the most magical manner. I love Bob Ross and watched his shows while growing up. It was awesome and hilarious, Jamie Jo, watching you master parts of his techniques (your mountains are realistic and incredible!) while losing it at the speed at which the show moves (it’s impossible to follow without pause and rewind). I don’t know how anyone was able to follow along back in the day. You did amazing, which says something of your own skills. Your painting is lovely and truly unmistakeable as “Bob Ross-style”. Loved this video!❤
@brandonlangdon2358 Жыл бұрын
You did wonderfully, I always felt the same. Btw the painting he did for the recording was the second one, he would paint a first painting to establish his process and then do it again for the camera.

Bob Ross was one of the best things about my childhood. I even had his paint set and used it to make several muddy happy little landscapes. He’s an amazing human being. Your painting came out very nice and your mountain was especially lovely!

Anyone who did these back in the day definitely must have recorded them on VHS and paused/rewound as needed! Recording things to VHS was VERY common in the 80's-90's when these were originally aired.

My husband and watched the program religiously in the original series as well as reruns, never to learn to make art but for the sheer joy of watching someone make art.

Bob Ross has such a way about him that is so calming but so chaotic at the same time. I think you did such a good job! It’s so hard to keep track and watch what he’s doing when you’re so focused on what’s happening on your own canvas haha
@hamerthyme78106 ай бұрын
I think a lot of the speed comes from using Bob's tools. I did a course once after already trying to paint like him and the flat knife and hard oils and liquid gesso at the course made such a big change in blending and sculpting. You did really well with what you have

I haven't finished watching it yet, but I can tell you I noticed a few things: you need a bigger brush. Also, you need a long-handled brush, and you need to hold the brush farther back on the handle. At first, you'll feel like you have no control, but then you'll gain all of the control. Girl, your painting is beautiful. Oil painting landscapes is just a different experience.

the mountain is so good:0 no mater how many times i see that knife technique with the snow, it always feels like magic also i feel like your process of painting is basically on the other end of the spectrum to bob ross's so i was kinda expecting the panic hahaha i wonder what it would look like if you repainted this using his final image as a reference but using your usual order of operations/techniques
