The most heartbreaking thing I took from this is what I got from the woman depicting Dolores. I could be wrong, but to me it seems as if she is coming up to the veil between this world and the next. She touches it and can't get through, and as the song progresses she continues to try, but the veil becomes thicker and muddier. The more she tries to get through, the further she is from being able to until the final chorus when she is desperately trying to claw her way back into our world, but the faster and harder she tries, the faster it closes until she can no longer see us and we cannot see her. If I'm correct, it is a beautiful piece of symbolism that is also incredibly tragic to think about.

I don't know how in the world I missed this reaction but better late than never.... I agree with you wholeheartedly. That was the first thing I thought too. Her looking on, not being able to add her voice the way she wanted... amazingly powerful imagery that I have yet to make it through without a HUGE lump in my throat and more than one tear in my eye.
@midnytemassacre2 жыл бұрын
Well, I mean.. I thought it was a given but maybe few remember the original Cranberries video. Dolores was in gold paint, sure, most remember this but the original was also in response to two teenage boys who were collateral damage to a bombing. Depicted in the video were young kids, painted in gold, symbolizing pretty much this.. screaming out but unheard. This carries that on.

@@midnytemassacre I understand the nod to the original video, but I am more talking about what the actress playing her is doing in THIS video.
@Daytruin2 жыл бұрын
i think there can be multiple interpretations as there is often with art, but the veil depiction seems right to me. Though i see it as her trying to repeat her message even in death that senseless violence needs to stop. In death she has lost her voice but her music for as long as it is played still serves as a warning and as time goes on she and her message fades, only to have others carry the torch and speak for her. Bad wolves in this way serves as a kind of speaker for the dead making sure her message carries on as well as any others who would do the same. In any case i doubt this song will ever be forgotten unless we see some kind of purge of art and culture as was attempted by Nazi's and others seeking to re-write history in order to get us to forget the evil they committed in order to bring us their visions of what utopia should be. Utopia brought upon by way of unforgivable atrocities is never the way and there are those who need to know that more than anyone out there.

This is the song that got me into Bad Wolves, its one of the best cover versions I have ever heard of any song. I saw a video of a interview he had talking about this song and how there manager used to manage the Cranberries in the 90s. He showed Dolores their version and she loved it, I cant remember who ask who for her to sing on the song but she told the manager she was over the moon to do it. The night before she was in a hotel room in London and was drinking whilst taking a bath, she fell asleep in the bath and sadly passed away. The gold lady in the video is how Dolores was in the original video of the song. There is a point in the video were the lady writes 1-15-18, that is the date of her passing. They also updated the lyrics to make them relivent to modern day. In the original the line is "It's the same old theme, Since nineteen-sixteen" which was changed to "It's the same old theme, In two thousand eight-teen" "With their tanks, and their bombs, And their bombs, and their guns" was changed to "With their tanks, and their bombs, And their guns, and their drones" to show the advancements in warfare. This song is one of my favourites from them and I think its an amazing tribute to Dolores. As for the next song by Bad Wolves, I personally love Hear Me Now feat. DIAMANTE, which is not the version that is on there album but saying that just due to the context of the song and video it has to be "Remember When". Please pay close attention to the video espically the writing explaining what went on. It is all true. Thank you so much for reaction to this song

I grew up discovering The Cranberries through MTV. Me and my mom used to do regular sleepovers at weekends with my grandparents,and then we would sit GLUED to MTV when our grandparents went to sleep at early night,or during early morning,afternoon when they didnt want to watch anything on the tv themselfs. Why we could only see MTV at theyr house,was that they were the first ones here to get antennas aka parabols. (Large white or grey antenna plates that took in more channels from the satellites then standard cabel did back in the day,from all over the world) Having alot of relatives from minor countries myself,i soon understood,sympathised etc with bands like The Cranberries singing about human tragedies like that. Think i saw a interview on MTV where Dolores said they either knew someone that lost a child/a family member/a friend in bombing runs like that,or they knew someone that knew someone that did. Thats what i identified alot with,in not too giant countries you tend to know or at least know about alot of people,so each loss strikes harder then in huge countries. Think the actual music took me awhile to adept to,well my ears needed to adept into it lol. On one hand i get why so many people made fun out of Dolores vocals....she defintly had a very unique voice. I would say at the lines of Shakira,Tracy Chapman,Tanita Takaram and other greats. A one of a kind voice,so theyr songs often need several listens to actually like. I didnt like ignorant mocking of her and the band though.....ignorant kids/teens do ignorant sh*t. On the other i didnt exactly laugh or approve of the mockings,shit talks i heard. And mom told me,since i was barely walking i seemed to allready have the ability of taking peoples sides that got "hatred" or whatever. Well,somehow i found myself clinging on to The Cranberries. I still have theyr CD Albums and CD singles laying somewhere,i was defintly a supporter. But maybe not one of the most hardcore supporters. I could listen to them when i was in a specific mood,and it had been awhile since last time i gave them a go. But it could go weeks,maybe months between each time. Still,when i first heard that a band calling themselfs Bad Wolves made a cover of Zombie. (That one song i had heard most vocal mockings of,by ignorant people,but also the song i saw as the biggest classic they have made) I have to be honest,i wasnt too positive about it. I thought Zombie wasnt the right song of theyrs to cover,and i somehow expected by this bands name alone,for them to scream,growl and just completely murder the song) My bad,i had a "i prefer the original,i dislike many covers" sort of ignorant thought process myself. But i promised myself....."im gonna give them a fair chance!". Note: I had no information about why Bad Wolves wanted to cover this song,and defintly not theyr plans when finding out about Doloreses passing. By the first word Tommy sang,i felt like i was pleasantly "tazed". And even when he unleashed his "beasty vocals",it wasnt what i feard at all. He did it just flawlessly! I was hooked,and got super intrigued about this band after that! Extremely rare that a band or an artist manages to grab a hold on me that fast,over just 1 song. But Bad Wolves did. And how they found a model who comes off as a "spitting image" of Dolores in gold paint for the video....that got me really emotional. Theese guys are amazing! Funny that you mentioned sport attire the way you did.....i have been a moderator and admin around platforms,the www in general,and i have experienced my fair share of both females and males trying theyr outmost to make people feel awful or uncomfortable,for simple things as what they wear. On the other hand,you got tons of male youtubers,streamers that sits in just theyr boxers/shots/pants,caressing theyr chests on cam,and noone even reacts. (Not that i would want them to react that way either,but it just shows how onesided gender hatred can be sometimes) Im not the biggest "fanboy" of females that persistently acts and dresses like cammodels on "family platforms" either,just because i dont see the big picture in trying to grow by revealing abit too much on certain platforms. If they do it on suitable platforms,i salute them and that leaves them with not having to worry about TOS`s around the "family platforms" as well,so a win-win for everyone. But i also dont go apesh*t over females dressing after the weather....people that think its done just to increase views etc,well thats all on them. You look classy in that outfit. I dont think you have anything to worry about there.

Delores and Bad Wolves had become friends in the lead up to this recording. Sadly, Delores died the night before. The band went on anyway and were biting back tears as they did the recording. I love bad wolves. I like to think I'm pretty cultured musically. I love country, rock, some rap, some pop, r&b and even some opera. I'm starting to get re-acquainted with old songs and bands from the 50s and 60s too. Like Elvis and the righteous brothers. Anyway, another great song from them is remember when. Oh, I can also get down with some blues and jazz.
