Plant was what? 21-22 when he wrote that lyric? The theme of this song is astounding - literally young British lads going to California and conquering all. It WAS hard, but Zep made it look easy.

For so many of us, those who grew up on Led Zeppelin and are now in our 60's and 70's, this band was such a huge part of our lives. There was nothing like them, and every new song was epic. Most of us probably didn't know how lucky we were to be teenagers experiencing what would become legendary, and we probably took for granted that we would always have Zep in our lives. Since then, I have had my favorite songs and bands throughout the years... music changes with the decades, and so do your favorites. But that was the secondary favorites category. Led Zeppelin has had a category all their own, the greatest band that no other band could ever come close to. For 55 years, if you asked me if I could only listen to ONE album for the rest of my life, it would still be Led Zeppelin. Any Zeppelin album. I swear to you Polo, every time you react to a Zeppelin song, and you say it's fire, or you say you like it, I instantly get emotional and my eyes fill with tears of joy. That's just me.... but sometimes I wonder if anyone else gets emotional too.
@davidbooth7778
@davidbooth7778 Ай бұрын
Agree. Going through their catalog, I can find no song to skip on any album. Truly legendary and will exist as long as Beethoven, Strauss, Mozart, etc.

@jaydellgregory1134 --- I like to think I truly grew up listening to Led Zeppelin. I being born in 1965 am the youngest of four kids. The eldest being six years and a few months older than me. Our parents were young, married less than a year after mom graduated high school she had my sister at 19 and me at 25 with two in between. Music and art were constant in our house, although not hippies, far from it, my dad smoked weed and drank and did some drugs throughout the years, mom, straight from all girl Catholic school didn't drink didn't smoke, swore like a sailor when no one else was around. Everyone had different musical tastes so we listened to a wide variety of styles and genres. We grew up about a mile from the beach in Los Angeles, and we had a second house in the local mountains about a two hour drive from our main house. One of the rules for the mountain house was no television. Not just can't watch it, there was no TV set. My dad set up his upper mid range stereo and turntable and brought his and my mom's albums and 45s and 78s and my siblings would bring their music and I was only seven or eight years old so I really didn't own any records but that got me into buying records. The rule was everyone gets one hour to play their music, whatever it is didn't matter and no heckling or bullying. If you didn't like something you could go outside and hike or whatever. So, I'm hearing all this different music and of course Led Zeppelin was always part of my sisters hour of music along with everything else popular in 1972. Back at our actual house at the beach, my sister would let me hang out in her room when she was gone and I could listen to her records. I would put on the headphones and get lost for hours listening to music. Zeppelin always my favorite. No matter what other bands I got into as time went forward, or whatever type of music, Zeppelin was my constant favorite band. 59 yrs old now and Zeppelin is still my favorite.

Zeppelin is magical. They give you deep home blues with neck breaking rock, give you epics which make you feel like you are in the halls of Valhalla or on a windswept battlefield; and then they have these beautiful songs that feel like a rest by a brook in Medieval England with tones of Stonehenge and rejuvenation. This music is timeless. They often bring these flavors that feel ancient and true.

This is my favorite LZ song, I know, strange to say, but you called out all the reasons. It begins like so many of their songs - as though it's another quiet slow start to a hard burn finish. Just beautiful musically. As I watched your video, the acoustics for some reason made me think of Neil Young. I would love to watch you react to two songs from Neil's 1971 BBC concert - first, Don't Let It Bring You Down and second, a song rarely played, A Main Needs A Maid. Both have emotionally wrenching acoustic guitar and lyrics. Poetry really, set to music. Thanks Polo.
