This is why many Europeans say Americans aren’t well traveled. They don’t understand the massive scale of America and the vast beauty and natural parks. Americans literally go on vacations in their own country. Because ever state is like an entirely different country. You want vast open fields? Got that. You want scenic hikes in vast mountain ranges? Got that. You want warm weather with beautiful beaches? Got that. You want arctic temperatures and glaciers? Got that. You want the desert and sand dunes? Got that. You want swampy areas? Got that. Only country with every biome in the world.

But then we end the conversation with the shared realization that there are so many places in the US that we are still yet to visit and experience.

What I found amazing is how many climate zones (8) Hawaii has. From Polar to Humid Tropical. I actually remember turning around from watching surfers on the North Shore and seeing a cactus. Saw many more on the west side of the Big Island where it seldom rains, but just to the East they get about 280” of rain yearly. The mainland offers all this as well, just not in an area a few hours drive apart.

Over 50 million tourists visit Chicago every year. There are two levels of Chicago because the entire city was raised up, by hand, ten feet to get the buildings out of the water table. There are miles of tunnels under the city too. What Chicago has that NYC doesn't is alleys. No trash in front of the buildings on the streets and sidewalks, it all in the back. The sky scraper was born in Chicago, along with electric blues music. My dad worked in the Chicago Theater in the 40's, met all the big stars of the day.

Welcome to the USA! Cool video. I love visiting Chicago. Such fantastic museums. My wife and I did a multi-day roadtrip to Yellowstone National Park. On the way, we visited Devil's Tower, which is an excellent stop. How the rocks grew upwards with the striations is amazing. I'm guessing few people were there as the tourist summer season ends in September. And I was thrilled you mentioned the prairie dogs! We stopped to watch them for 30 minutes. They are so fun to watch. Anyone I know who has visited the US is always surprised by our amount of cereals to choose from, the size of the USA and the variations of the land around the country. I suspect those two things are why few Americans travel outside of the US: We have so much here to see, and it's less expensive to travel across the US than for us to travel across the ponds. I'd like to suggest you eat at privately owned "mom and pop" restaurants. They tend to be better than the chain restaurants. Enjoy your trip!
@manueldeabreu19802 ай бұрын
I remember walking through the field of Prairie Dogs near Devil's Tower. 100's of them would pop up and bark at you from about 20 feet away. As you go closer to one hole they ALL would god down and all would pop up at a new hole and they would be at least 20 feet away barking again. It was super surreal. Devil's Tower was a volcano where the mountain fell away, exposing the magma that hardened into rock. Chicago's Navy Pier is where the US Navy use to train carrier pilots for the war in the Pacific. They would take a training carrier out to the Great Lake and practice on the training ships.

Even in Summer, Lake Michigan is pretty darn cold! I remember jumping in the water, as a kid, on a hot summer day, thinking it was going to be awesome and then jumping out, because it was so cold! Even in July, the water temperature is only 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit (think about 18-20 Celsius). And if earlier in the year or later, it's likely too cold to swim (for very long, at least). What most do on the hot days is just cool off in the waters of Lake Michigan, then go dry off and warm up in the Sun. Back and forth.

Hey there and welcome to the US! Like a lot of people have said, most of us don't really get to travel around the country because it is so big. We usually stay in our respective regions. But I really hope you enjoy all there is to offer! (Airalo would have been so helpful to have when I was studying abroad in Sweden instead of paying Verizon big $$$ for an international data plan😭.)

If you went to Devil's Tower you should have visited Mount Rushmore near Rapid City in South Dakota as well. Not only for presidents carved into rock, but also through Custer state park to see the Buffalo, and Needles highway for spectacular views . Only a couple of hours away.

I'm an American, and living at my 36th address. I've lived in four foreign countries and 14 states in the United States. I've lived in Wyoming twice (Laramie and Cheyenne), and my two youngest children (of four, the others were born in Ohio and Virginia, respectively) were born in Cheyenne. What I found most interesting about Wyoming is that what the white man named Devil's Tower was known to the native Americans as Heaven's Footstool. Interesting that Ms. "Gypsy in Sneakers" would visit the two windiest spots in America. Chicago is known as "the Windy City," and Cheyenne, Wyoming has the cleanest air of all cities in the United States because it is so windy.

I remember the first time I saw Devil's Tower. I am a geologist, and I was impressed.

Yeah...Walmart's prices have definitely gone up since the pandemic. It used to be a bit more reasonable for most things.

You need to watch the 1977 film "Close Encounters of the Third Kind", which was directed by Steven Spielberg. Devils Tower features prominently in this film. It is a very good, rather uplifting movie.

We’ve been to Ireland three times. We went to the grocery store, there was one option for a ketchup. One option for everything. Unlike the US where we have 47 options for everything, and they’re all full of corn syrup.

I visited for the first time a couple of months ago. Loved the area around the Aquarium, World of Coke, Civil Rights Museum (under construction) and Centennial Park. Also, really nice suburbs where my transplanted NY friends now live

Welcome to USA! So many different places to explore! You would need a 1 year visit to really appreciate the entire nation. On average 1 week in each state but some states really need 3-4 weeks at least (California, Texas, New York). While I have traveled all over the world, our country is so diverse that many Americans never feel the need to travel to other countries for something new. Unfortunately this is also why we Americans tend to be ignorant of other cultures. Hope you visit many other regions in our amazing country!

Welcome to the States. Just in case you didn't know, drones are not allowed to be launched and landed in national parks or monuments. A little bit of a loophole is to launch from outside of park property and dont let it touch the ground in park property. Your drone shots are amazing. Also, while you're in the states, you should stop at a diner and get biscuits and gravy.
