This was awesome. I heard that the ideal temperatures to collect sap from sugar maples is 5 degrees Celsius, or 41 degrees Fahrenheit, during the day, and -5 degrees, or 23 degrees Celsius, at night. Cheers, Nickolas! 👍🏻👍🏻✌️

never seen those bags before, industrial scale maple syrup farms are crazy looking where they have hundreds of pipes going to one place but it makes sense with how much you have to boil it down to get the product

Does drilling the tree hurt or kill the tree at times? Does the hole heal itself (like a wound) or do you have to do something to close the hole to protect the tree? Very interesting!
@NickolasGreenOutdoors7 ай бұрын
It does not hurt or kill the tree. You just dont want to over tap a tree at once. Its like donating some blood at a blood drive. You are just basically stealing a little bit. And as fas as the hole they heal up. You leave them be
@n1njatuber7 ай бұрын
@@NickolasGreenOutdoors Thank you for explaining it! Sounds symbiotic.. we help the tree by pruning, feeding, mulching, etc. and the tree helps us by providing shade, oxygen, sap for syrup, nuts or seed, etc.

I know you said you are on a harsh diet but maple syrup and sugar is a little better for you than refined sugar. Raw sap from the trees also has good benefits such as electrolytes and antioxidants

Just want to ask if you didn't sterilize your laddle and strainer/funnel? I've watched the video til the end. So, your 5gal raw maple syrup yields only 2small jars which is approx.200ml each? It evaporated. That's hardwork, Nick. Congratulations!
@NickolasGreenOutdoors7 ай бұрын
I never sterilized the ladle. And yeah, only boiled to two pints. Which i was lucky to get that.
