Back in the early 70s you could buy power heads and shark darts. Totally legal. I had 2 power heads which is simply a bullet on the end of your spear shaft. For big fish like sharks,tuna etc i would use my 12 guage power head and for smaller fish i would use my 44 magnum as the 12 gauge would make to much mess of the fish and 9 times out if 10 my spear shaft bent upon exploding on the fish. Illegal nowadays but they were great fun to use during those days. I bought my first power head and shark dart when i was 16 from a sports shop in the city called Mick Simmons. I was inspired about spearfishing by a diver named Ben and his wife Valerie Cropp. Great video. It brought back a lot if good memories

Ali-OG here are some tips that might be obvious but could be help if u dont know them 1 when you’re down try to relax most of your body because more moving uses up way more oxygen 2 increase your breath hold just hold your breath a lot practice exerciseing whilst holding your breath it can help a lot in improving your breath hold and I just realized this comment is from 10 months ago but I’ll just send it anyway

This is not a thinking persons reply. Do some sums - fish killed, the numbers of days on a visit, etc. Your reply is nonsense - I am a fisherman and have a marine biology degree, I fish for tropical pelagic fish yellowfin, gts, doggies, etc and release them. I suspect you either don't know what you are talking about, or think that telling a mistruth is a reasonable way of deflecting from the concern discussed here - gratuitous waste.
@DanielMann
@DanielMann 6 жыл бұрын
You would be naive to think that catch and release fishing has no mortality. Catch a mackerel and it’s nearly always going to die, no point in releasing it. Yes the sharks got my fish but they also didn’t get another? That’s the ocean and we ate what we put in the boat.
@mytube4242

Not that I made that claim, did I ? I commented on how killing a clutch of fish for entertainment was wasteful, and is certainly not ' just for supper'.

Riffe mid handles shoot high or low (experience) that's why the started making the euro with the handle on the end. My #2 standard shot high, my NoKaOi shot low. I think all euro designs are accurate with the handle on the end. Adding wings to a mid handle is trying to compensate for the shot oscillation.

Best bet is to get in contact with the Newcastle Neptunes spearfishing club. They will be able to teach you how to do it safely and you will learn heaps more through a club than by yourself. For kit going off the rocks you'll obviously need mask, snorkel & fins. A wetsuit is a must to be able to stay in for any period of time which will also need a weight belt. A speargun around 100-110cm would be perfect around there with a single rubber and 7mm spear. Rob Allen make a nice rail gun and have entry level models that are top notch. A float and flag with a rig line will be needed as well. I've dived those areas and boat traffic can be heavy. If you are down in Sydney check out Adreno Spearfishing. Massive store and they are good guys which will be happy to help on gear selection to any budget.

Great video. I love watching your adventures. It inspires me to go free diving around the world. I do have some questions in regards to your techniques and to how you set up your equipment. Have you considered doing a tutorial or gear set-up video? I think that would be of interest. I’ve seen the one about knots, but I want more! Lol. Hope to see more vids soon.

Thanks Sindre. I have thought about doing them but I don’t have all my gear like I do in Australia so I feel the video may be sub-standard but keen to do some when I’m back next year.
