Fished that spot many times. Never fly fished in the winter. I should try that.

I grew up in that area riding my bike through the woods if you go in on the north side by vets Highway you can walk about a half a mile South 1st trail to the right into the brook walk the brook as far as you can until it gets too deep to walk and the fish are swimming up there like you wouldn't believe it really is a beautiful Park. This video brings me back 25 years. Thanks for all the awesome videos.

Have you ever thought of going to a "fly fishing school"? That's how I started. Orvis has them. Three days of fun.

That's a great trip for your first time there James. Going to Fla. you should think of trying salt water fly fishing. You don't have to spend a fortune to get started(no need for $800.00 rods and $500.00 reels). Some good deals if you shop around and read up on it. Have a good trip and enjoy that weather y'all.

Thanks for the comment! I'm still very new to fly fishing but so far it's so much fun. I'm definitely going to look into saltwater fly fishing in the future!

Mad River Outfitters KZbin channel has a load of videos on fly fishing. Everything from getting started, how to cast, set up a fly reel, explaining leaders and more. One of the best vids on fly fishing I've seen. His advice works. Good luck.

Wow! Surf, pond hopping and now fly fishing! I’m seriously impressed! Great job, James!!!

If you go on the north side of the railroad tracks to Lakeland County Park the pond I believe is called Mill Pond you can catch Sonny's . I don't believe you need a permit the fish in there. There's a big area between vets Highway and the railroad tracks. Not sure about any kind of fishing in there.

Some call this river the "Conny" If I had only three flies they would be the Woolly Bugger, Muddler Minnow and the Hare's Ear Nymph, all with bead heads and a strike indicator. I might add the Mickey Finn.

What’s the deal with the platforms?!? Can you not wade up and down the river?

Hey James, good to have you back bro! My father was a fly fisherman. He made his own flies and even his own rod out of bamboo. Never thought of tackle shops lol. He loved targeting trout, and the elusive dorado. This was a sweet vid. Safe travels to Florida! Tight lines.

Great video James. I am a fly fisherman too. Great fun. I try and determine what the fish are eating by turning over rocks near the shore and seeing what food source there is and match my flies to that. But, you did pretty good. Looking forward to your Florida fishing videos. Have a safe trip.

A lot of brookies in there this year. Tough to get anything past em for the bigger fish. Pretty sure they stocked most of them

Does it really cost $25 each time you fish here? Require a reservation for a 4 hours time slot? And this is on top of the $25 NYS Resident annual fishing license? Never been but was on the State Park site and this is my understanding. Thx u.
@jamesschlickoutdoors3 жыл бұрын
Yes that's correct. Cost $25 to fish there each time you go, and you pick a numbered spot that will be all yours for the 4 hour time slot. And yes need a NYS freshwater fishing license, which is needed to fish any other lakes on the island. DEC pops up everywhere and they check to make sure you have a license.

@@jamesschlickoutdoors thank you. Hmm. Seems kinda steep but maybe my best shot. Never fly fished before. Coming from Manhattan. Gotta try at least once. Appreciate your reply. Thank you!
