VW MK7 GOLF R PROBLEMS & MODS, TODAY WE TACKLE A MISFIRE I HAVE DISCOVERED AFTER A COUPLE OF DRIVES! NEW SPARK PLUGS & COIL PACKS FOR THE VOLKSWAGEN GOLF R. IT DRIVES GOOD NOW, WE THEN BEGIN THE EXTERIOR CAR MODIFICATIONS!

Don't think that's misfiring bro, probably the sound actuator that pumps a fake exhaust note through the speakers, you can turn it off with a carista or similar obd thing

Its not through the speakers in the Golf, its basically a puck in a box that vibrates and uses the windscreen to amplify the sound.

You can get an obd11 and you can disable it or u could go under the cowl and unplug it

Mk7 r has a noise speaker in the interior that makes it sound like that on the inside.

If you had a misfire then it would throw a light up on the dash straight away, car sounds spot on to me mate 👍

That’s the sound actuator, you can get that turned off Put it in individual mode, change the settings to race except steering and noise, leave them on normal

Sounded completely normal to me. I was out in my remapped M140i today, had a nice race with some sports bike, no idea what it was. Rider was laying flat on his tank trying to keep the front wheel down, and I pulled alongside him lol on a dual carriageway, love the sheer torque of my M140i.

Yes Harry, missed the content, so glad you have an R, i have a 16' mk7 R manual in lapiz with the same wheels and leather. In response to your v6 sound get yourself a ln OBD11, google it, you can do loads of coding to your VW. The v6 noise is possibly the sound actuator which is basically sake engine noises, just turn it off with the OBD11

I have a golf R and thats how they sound. Early models did have trouble with coil packs and a few people have had a slight missfire caused by plugs, doesnt hurt to change them though but yours sounded as they all do... unless the camera couldnt pick it up properly. The soundaktor puts a lot of fake v6 noise through the speakers. I’ve coded mine down to 50% in race mode rather than 100%. I’ve also got the vwr r600 intake, turbo inlet, turbo muffler delete and a bcs cat back exhaust so the fake v6 noise is not needed.

Turbo VW motors go through coil packs, and start plugs, pretty quickly. Had to replace both of mine after 40k miles. I have a Mk6 GTI. Been a great car though! Can't wait to get a Mk7 R

My 2017 gli had a sound actuator attached to the bottom of the front glass which made it sound like it was a 5cyl Audi. I unplugged it and now it sounds normal when you get on it. Sounds the same in the video, not sure if the pipe in noise from the stereo or does the same in the R.

I was a technical trainer for VW and a few of the comments are right it has what VW call augmented sound, it's basically a speaker under the scuttle panel, I hated to concept at first but now two R's latter I turn it on all the time. They can vibrate so get ready for that mod 😂

I have a TCR mate and it sounds just like yours inside. It's the "soundaktor" pumping in fake noise through the speakers. Highly doubt you were misfiring but good excuse to start the mods

The Golf R has a plastic puck in a box that vibrates, its located just under the windscreen under the bonnet and uses the windscreen to amplify the sound to make it sound like that. You can change the level of it in the setting. Some people unplug it under the bonnet.

Turbo elbow and inlet pipe and an r600 intake, the turbo elbow is the restrictive part so get rid asap 💪

100% the sound actuator. Horrible bit of kit, I've disabled mine completely using OBDEleven. And I've modded my exhaust flaps constantly open too. Because they don't STAY OPEN, they only open when you choose 'race' or 'individual' mode, even when you've left them open when turning the car off! Hmu, got loads of tips and tricks, had mine over a year now 😎

You can try unplugging the Sound Aktor. There’s plenty of videos on KZbin on how to do it. It’s really easy, just a few clips. Try doing it and see how you find it.

The sound actuator that pumps fake noise into the cabin whilst in sport mode makes the car sound like a 5 cylinder subaru. Try it in eco mode where the sound actuator is turned off to get the true engine noise. Still nothing wrong with changing the spark plugs

That sound is just the soundaktor. Put it in individual mode on the drive mode selector and keep everything else in race and just turn engine sound to quiet and it will go away. The soundaktor makes it sound like a wrx inside the cabin.

Not misfiring, it’s the sound generator (soundaktor), to compare put it in eco and the soundaktor will be reduced in volume to 30%, in normal mode the volume is 70% and in race it is at 100%, the replacement rear black badges are always a poor fit and usually come back off after a short while, register at www.golfMk7.com forum, full of very knowledgeable GTI and R owners, if you have any issues ask us there, nice R by the way👌

Most of the newer VAG cars will pump an overly nice sound in. Even the Polo's purr standard. Always worth changing those bits regardless of better ones so that it runs better anyway.

It’s called Soundaktor which is fake engine sounds into the cabin (built in speakers under windscreen). Priority mods for me were buying OBD11 and coding the Soundaktor off and also coding the exhaust valves permanently open for a louder deeper sound 24/7 with no hardware modifications!

if you had a misfire your check engine light would be flashing as the misfires are happening and you would have a CEL code for the cylinder that was misfiring as well as a general code for Misfires.
