In this video my goal was to show you guys what my first week of hotshot trucking consisted of. I am new to this industry so I’m not here to teach necessarily, but to just document my journey and experiences with varieties of loads and lifestyle of being on the road. Enjoy and please give this video a like, comment, and most importantly subscribe to see more content from me.

Piece of advice especially for them high cubes. Put a half twist (writing from facing out to the inside) on either side of those cubes to stop them from vibrating and cutting loose. Seen others not put the twist and cut their straps in half

Finally, someone new that has some damn sense. Just a tip, use a belly strap on long narrow loads like that. Never trust the shippers banding. If that band breaks, you lose tension on the straps and on the highway she goes! Belly strap anything like that. A belly strap holds everything together in case those bands break. Good luck on your journey.
@anthonydterry

Nice vid man for sure, I don’t know if you have a dispatcher or whatever but I don’t and I remember calling and booking my first load. They wanted me there that evening but I was like I can’t it make there right now and got an appointment for the morning. All of that just so I could double and triple, quadruple check all my equipment. Man I was so nervous 😂

The minimum is 2 straps in the first 10 feet and 1 strap for every 10 feet after that. If that requires 3 straps, I throw at LEAST 4 straps. I always go above the legal minimum. On long narrow loads like that, always throw like 2 belly wrap straps - they can be 2" straps on something like that. When you chain your containers, try to hook the chains on the stake pockets or spools and put the binder (snap binders work best, especially since the load is solid) on the chain where it crosses from one side of the trailer to the other. That ratchet binder handle can rotate and damage the load or someone's car, not to mention if it sticks out past your rub rail you are oversize (and without a permit). Stay safe out there!
@anthonydterry
@anthonydterry 2 жыл бұрын
Appreciate that advice ✊🏽 you be safe as well!

@@All-Miles-Matter I use bungee's, but if possible wrap the excess chain around the handle and use the bungee to keep the slack chain tight. The chain can't bounce loose and the handle can't move with the chain around it. I have had handles move when held only by a bungee. That's why I like my ratchet binders to be near the deck where the handle is tight against the deck. If you have it positioned properly, the binder can only tighten itself, not loosen. If you can raise the handle, reverse the binder so raising the handle off the deck will tighten the binder.

I don’t know if anyone’s mentioned anything to you but if you pull enough of your strap out and just kinda throw it over the top let it land on the deck you can do all your straps at one time on one side and on the other side hook them all up and then come back and tighten them down also you may want to get some winches on the other side and have alternate winches if you’ve got 10 on this side I would put 10 on the other side to help keep your load from shifting from left to right cause it does happen especially when you haul pipe and put a 1/2 twist in them. Good luck ..
