Judging by the reaction of the buck I am betting you hit the heart. Typical heart shot will jump straight in the air and then take off running. Always go and track the animal for at least a hundred yards checking for scruff marks from a broken leg, blood specks, as well as the way they run. Some never bleed on the ground but hit a tree dead on their feet 75 yds from where you shot them. Some suffer and coyotes eat them later. Always go and check. Great job on the filming, helping your wife and educating beginners on the sport.
