One of the biggest differences I’ve noticed is people’s attitudes to life. For example, I find that British people in general are so much more serious and hardly smile. When I visit the Philippines, not one person I’ve met has been too serious, if something bad happens they will put a positive spin on it. There’s pretty much laughter all day long. I feel like a free spirit when I’m there. Can’t wait to retire so I can live the rest of my days in peace ✌🏾

@@huntjoanne8419 From what I have seen to apply for Philippine citizenship you need to be living there 5 years and then you can apply but if I understand it right if you get citizenship there you have to give up the citizenship of your country. I know here filipinos can have duel citizenship like if they come to Canada they can get a Canadian citizenship and keep there Philippine citizenship. I am thinking I will just start out with extending visitors visa till I can figure out what is the best thing to do.

@@brianbaxter3913 this is what I’m not really understanding. My mum is a Filipina so I should be ok with getting dual citizenship (apparently). I believe one of the most relevant children storyteller of my childhood into adulthood, is the country mouse and the city mouse. I grew up in the country and I had cousins that grew up in the city. They hated the quiet and simple country life and we hated the city noise and concrete everywhere. That's why I moved to Davao and not Manila. What I didn't understand at the time, was that I was the city mouse (the US) and anywhere in the Philippines, even Manila, is country. So, aside from being very hot 24 hours a day in Bacoor, Cavite, it was still "country like", compared to US vs Philippines. All that to say, I agree.

I lived in the Philippines for almost six years. Unfortunately, I can't learn other languages like Kumander did, but I did adjust to a lot of Philippine life. I never could deal with replacing a knife with a spoon, so that wasn't an adjustment I had any problem with when we made the move back to the US. There still was an adjustment back into American culture though. When I went to gas up my car the first time back, I sat at the pump for almost a full minute before I remembered no one was coming to put gas in my car for me, or offer to check my oil and tire pressure. When I realized I didn't remember what to do next is when I realized culture shock was setting in. I think my list is much larger than 10 things! So now that we can't wait until it is safer to travel so we can move back to the Philippines, what are we going to have difficulty adjusting to. Am I going to struggle with learning how to drive Filipino style all over again!

You would love it i think. It totally changed my whole outlook on life the first time i went there. The happiest people on planet Earth i've ever met are the Filipinas, we in the UK a lot are miserable even though they have everything they could wish for in life, cars, house, money, a million gadgets and all the latest ones, and whatever there hobbies are and still people are miserable and strive to own what next door has instead of being happy with what they have. Then the Philippines, i went there like a typical westerner and straight away the happiness, kindness, no desire for what the Joneses have next door. It really blew me away once i realised that these super happy people had nothing, a lot of the time they don't even know what they are having for dinner that night, they are all happy with what they have got in their homes. Something happened in my mind that changed me forever after the first time i went there and the realities of a poor european and a poor filipina are so different. i fell in love with the place, Samal Island, and when i leave there since then, i feel homesick for the place, the first time i left, i had tears running down my face in the airport that i had to come home.

@AcousticAdd1ct4 жыл бұрын
"Hey joe" is an american thing that was brought in during world war 2 and post world war. It is equivalent to "hey man". Joe symbolizes an american man, back then an american military man before american tourists arrived. Most of the Filipinos think that if you come from a different country and a caucasian man you will automatically refered as a Joe or an american man. Not many filipino reconsider this and ask you which country you came from and be called something else like dude, man, mate. Filipinos just settled with Hey joe no matter which country you come from even if you are from australia or europe. Its is surprising for a lot of male caucasians especially if they are not american. I think we filipinoes need to re evaluate this terms and call the appropriate names intead of generalzing foreign tourists alike. Its like we are still stuck to the post world war 2 american ways of expression not all now but some can still be observed today, from wearing clothes, music amd language. Many filipinoes cannot identify who is irish, british, ozz or american. I think they need to be more observant especially with the english accents.

Thank you for this video. I hope someone out there, a Filipino makes a reaction video and discuss this in his/her native language. This is exactly what I want to happen here in the Philippines, to be more independent, stop this extended families orientation, stop being naive that relatives will always be there to help. Empower yourself. Love yourself first! Anselm, i really appreciate your honesty, I really think Filipinos should have stricter rules and regulations inorder for kids to realize hardwork and not leave the Philippines and work abroad. I have no ill feelings about working abroad, but when I travel and meet filipinos abroad, they always tell stories of how behave people in that country so they are obedient in following rules and afraid to get in trouble, but when they were living in the Philippines then they don’t care about rules, relatives will help them get what they want like getting easy with your papers in the town hall. I am being frank. When we live abroad you would say back in the Philippines they don’t follow rules so let it be, no one will challenge it, if you say so, people would say you are cooperating “wala ka pakisama”.

Thanks for sharing two different cultures. Interesting! Uniqueness! I think UK has more richness,ancient historical buildings/Castles. Philippines has more richness of nature. Number one Marine Biodiversity, beautiful hills, mountains, volcanoes, oceans, green fields, trees and beautiful biodiversity islands.🥰

Lovely to see you shopping Warsteiner Beer. When I was living in my Homecountry Germany, it was one of my favorite brands.🍺🍺🍺 Now living in USA it's just too expensive😞

I haven't drank a Warsteiner for a while. But I remember it's good. So when I saw it in the supermarket, I thought why not 🍻🍻🍻

Heey, your intros are getting better. I love the format where the first part is composed of b-rolls and narration before going to the main topic. It kind of gives us the story before the story. Your voice carries some of the character of the place with it (I guess, it's because you're from there). It's sort of like one of those short documentaries about Japan (... I forget the title) Keep on going!

I would make more videos if I could sit at a screen long enough, what does help me is having a standing desk, maybe it will help you as well. I miss the interactions most in the philippines, the sun, the sounds, the smells, the mentality of you can achieve anything without restriction. Thank you for the videos.
