Every position is horrible if you get stuck in it for hours. Every position is great if you're only in it for a few minutes. Standing desks don't solve anything if you're stuck there not moving all day. Some of the hardest days I've had at work (in a machine shop) is when I"m stuck standing at a drill press for three hours barely moving. Standing is not magic nor is it better than sitting, posture wise. The best position is the next position. People need to move. It's just that so many people are dead set on working for hours at a desk and not moving so they think standing there, not moving is better than sitting and not moving. This is just not the case in my experience.

you can get a larger zafu (round cushion) and use it to sit on or kneel on it. there is also something called a seiza bench which is a short bench that is slanted and is meant for kneeling on it - there are two styles - one where the bottom edge of the leg pieces is straight (so it does not adjust) and one where the bottom of the leg pieces is curved so you can adjust the angle between your lower and upper leg. These are all standard zen meditation items. Note there is something called a zabuton - it is a square mat (about 2 inches thick) usually stuffed with kapok (which feels like cotton).

I am so excited about your channel, and you hanging upside down from the rings is such a vibe!! :D Edit: I wear barefoot shoes too! A lot of people ask me about them in person, so I think there's growing interest. We are supposed to have our toes spread out to a healthy degree, and our big toe is there for support. This typically doesn't happen w/ the modern shoe design due to the toe box. Whether we're talking about feet, back, etc, our entire body is connected (kinetic chain).

I used to wonder why I could never just have shoes that didnt' hurt... I kept trying to cram my feet into these "stylish" shoes when they were deforming my feet for years! But I'm glad I know now, and my kids will have healthier feet as a result!

@@natashatheresa Wow! This concept of barefoot shoe is totally new to me! I guess it is designed to give room for toes to spread naturally. Yes - video on the shoes, please. I've been through 14 pairs in the past year, of ordering, they don't fit and then having to return. I have a wide foot, even the ones that say wide & extra wide, were not wide enough. After much aggravation, trial & error, I accidently stumbled on a pair that are working for the time being. They are actually wide enough. I ordered the men's which are wider than the woman's but they look identical and I'm all about comfort than style. I have mobility issues, so getting shoes on quickly was very important to me. These are like the Sketchers Slip on ones without the brand name or the price; I did try Sketchers and had to return them as well, not wide enough either. I still have to use the long shoe horn, from Dollar Tree, to assist but I'm OK with that. They are Tober, sold on Amazon and were $29.99. I'm very interested in the ones you have, I saw them while looking for shoes and curious how they fit and feel. TY I'm 73, with arthritis in my hip, so my days of being on the floor are over with. I'm glad the floor desk is working for you and it's cool to see you so excited about it. Congrats on all the views and the rings, they do look fun!

Congratulations on your new rings 😃😃 You can also have Japanese designed floor chairs as an alternative to floor cushions. As basic as they are, cushions do not give lumber and back support while you are seated which is actually essential for stopping one from slouching. Do try to find a permanent solution for this issue as in the long run it will give trouble, even if currently it seems okay. And you getting up from the floor with that ease is very impressive and assuring!! I used to be able to get up like that without resting hand on the floor till a few years ago, but lately I realised that it was when we were still using Indian style WC! I thought I will be that flexible forever just because I have done it all the time, but it was not true. I noticed that after switching to western style, I lost that agility without me realising it! Now I have to make conscious effort to bring that flexibility back, just by making a point to sit on floor and try to get up without any support.

Thanks for the fun update Natasha! The idea of a floor all the way to standing desk is interesting! I love the flexibility (is that a pun?) that something with that much range offers and it seems like it would make trying out a floor desk more convenient. Except for the price, but eventually I was wanting to get a motorized standing desk anyways. I've never really considered a floor desk. My husband is Korean and when we're in Korea with his family I do a lot more floor sitting than in the US and it's always a challenge for my hipflexers and my hamstrings. Maybe I'd fit in more there after using a floor desk at home - haha. The desk I currently have was built by my dad and is modular, so I think it could be transformed into a floor desk so I might give it a try! I have really bad flexibility naturally so I think this would be difficult for me to commit to full time at least at first. I do have to do a lot of work on my computer (from home) but I think maybe during recreational use of my computer I'll try using the desk as a floor one! Glad I stumbled on your mini viral video! I backed Uppeal as a Kickstarter supporter and never got a desk, so do let me know if you manage to find something! Moving my setup to a standing desk is a pain when I have papers spread out. For an easy DIY standing desk, you can make a shelf that tips down from the wall and folds back up when finished. It's dangerous if you tend to lean on your desk with your elbows, but I try to take that as a sign I need to switch back to the floor.

For a quick wire/cable management solution, try cable management boxes for the powerstrips/big chunky blocks, you can also just toss most of your excess slack in them. Yes for sprained ankles all the time! Landing from a jump was always so hard and painful if I didn't time things just right. Definitely look into hypermobility! Most Asians are hypermobile, genetically, and it definitely shows in the traditional activities. I use chopsticks a lot and it helps tremendously with hand pain when writing by hand. I have gotten strong on the outside of my foot too (although not to the jumping stage- you're amazing 🤩), but that means my muscles tend to stick that way and the inside muscles of my foot gets very unhappy. Have you tried doing similar standing and jumping tricks on the inside of your feet?

Beautiful video! Thank you :-) I am so tempted to try out many of the floor ways but I suffer from PPMS and can only handle being home, often sleep or sit in a far leaned back chair. Though I really don't want to loose the strength in my body so I often try to walk when I shouldn't (though keep safety in mind) so including some floor life could easily help me strengthen even more.

Your affect is infectious! Perfectly embodied how I felt these last four years as I went on my own journey to healing my upper back. I started in the same areas with minimal footwear and floor sitting etc. now I’ve got a PT who is wonderful and working on strengthening very specific muscle groups with me. It’s incredible to be pain free, I just wish I knew sooner that going back to my indigenous roots would be the key rather than continuing to do what everyone else does/recommends in this white society. 🤪
@natashatheresa6 ай бұрын
Lollllll! Very glad to hear you found a path to healing and it didn’t involve needing surgery or injections. Modern medicine is all about treating symptoms and not investigating to get to the root cause. Sometimes it’s just so simple of a fix but we overcomplicate in our journey to make life more “comfortable” ooof it’s a whole thing lol

I found the ceiling joists with a stud finder and bought some mounts (link in description) and bolted them directly into the ceiling joists. Each mount is rated to hold up to 600 lbs
