The most impressive thing is how you remember all these plant names. I'm just getting into landscaping and I can't even remember the names of the plants I threw in last week. Lol. Love this channel tho. I felt kinda corny as a younger dude getting into gardening but watching someone like you that dresses and talks similar as I do makes me feel better! Haha. Southside Chicago tuning in!
@paulplantu

It helps when you make vids because you’re having to say the name multiple times then watch it back when editing. But yeah there’s no need to feel corny if anything knowing about the natural world makes you more interesting. People live their whole lives without knowing what type of flowers are growing in their yard. Thanks for showing love tho I’m glad you found the channel!!

Been following you for a FAT MINUTE now and love how you just do you and stay genuine, inspiring myself and others to get to the garden… uncle who passed away couple years back left 15 acres “Palm Springs area” it’s just dry and barren so it’s hard to grow stuff but I’m determined to get it going and create a “food forest” 🧡🙏 much love paul

You definitely need to grow a lot of native desert plants that don’t need too much water and get some native desert trees up to create shade and drop leaves to add organic matter to the soil. Fruit that could grow there easily would be like date palms, prickly pear cactus, maybe Peruvian apple cactus, and citrus. You definitely can grow stuff there just do research on natives for that area! Good luck and thanks for the comment

you are doing a great job. my suggestion to you would be plant some annuals to help fill in ground space. Impatiens would do well in your filtered sun/ part sun areas. there are also some called Sunpatiens, that can take full sun in some areas. if it gets extremely hot where you are, maybe plant some in a mostly sunny/part shade area. also get some Proven Winners brand superbells petunias. they grow and spread well plus they bloom profusely. i know you are doing a perennial garden and thats great, but sometimes you just need some annuals to fill in open areas or bare spots. lol good luck buddy.

Just watched your tour. Your garden looked amazing and I'm sure it still is. The geek in me has to tell you though, that the plant that you're pronouncing as "tie" (Hawaiian Ti or Good Luck Plant) is actually pronounced "tee". They will grow in lower light situations but because they don't like it, they will lose some or all of the color variegation and can even start turning green. Also, watch out having blackberries in the ground. They are hell to remove and they're VERY invasive. They can travel long ways under the ground to pop up in your foundation or other places you don't want them. Much better if contained in a large pot. My neighbor's plant traveled under the fence and up under our spa to get up into the motor over 20ft away. Good luck with your garden. It really does look very nice.

You really love plants! Love your enthusiasm. Don't worry too much about all the human plant haters. I have noticed before there is a significant population of people who somehow think plants are like Little Shop of Horrors - one minute a baby plant, the next crushing your house. Thank goodness plant people can tell this is not how plants work. I have moved through many phases of plants and now am mostly interested in edible plants and a good ecosystem for the insects in the garden. I remember the schedules I had when I was growing roses traditionally and orchids. Now I do much less work just letting nature do its thing in the garden. All I do is collect seeds and plant them.
