Lower the car, you'll not need after market wheels as the car sits nicer,... I had the exact same car, the wheels was the only thing I didn't like, but lowered it and looks fab

Hi Luke & GF, have to say I love the new addition I’ve had this exact same car & spec and again wanted to keep the standard look with subtle changes so I’m gonna suggest the following, eibach 30m lowering springs all round with spacers 25m on the back 15m on the front makes it sit beautifully & steps the wheels out perfectly, Maxton lip spoiler on the boot lid, and if she wants the car to sound like a GTI should sound then just remove the back box & add new 4” tips nice sound few little pops & bangs not too crazy and still looks OEM now for the power if there’s an upgrade happening Raceline R600 Intake with turbo muffler delete & stage 1 remap when I tell you this is the holy moly difference to get rid of that lag in the gear change you can thank me later 325bhp & 565 nm of Torque and a proper power distribution and no wheel spinning in 1st gear that is all you need for those few subtle changes and you will enjoy the MK 8 even more best of luck and I’ll keep a look out 👌🏻

Congratulations to your GF for the new to her VW GTI. The MK8 gets lots of hate but most of it is coming from people that has never driven one, so don't pay much mind to them. Personally, where I live the roads are CRAP so I would not lower this car unless you have good roads. GTI's ride pretty good right out the box and you lower the car mainly for aesthetics. If the car is still under ANY kind of warranty? Leave it alone. If it is out of warranty? A tune possibly? Stock exhaust is actually quite good, OEM intake is good, so it just depends on what your GF wants. If she wants a GTI to be uniquely hers that will require your GF to go out of her comfort zone to make it that way. Personally, I would leave it stock for a bit, let her get used to it and find what SHE thinks it needs and go from there😊Again Congratulations on your BEAUTIFUL GTI 👍

Agreed. Too many critics who haven’t lived with one. I had a MK 8 GTI for over a year.I had no issue with the haptics or much else. The main niggle was the lack of illumination on the temp sliders but there are other ways to change the temp Well finished car, rear usbs, front passenger console pocket, warning lamps for blind spots, ambient lighting, variety of dash displays and fantastic handling over the 7.5 GTI which I had for a couple of years too. I may go back to a 8.5 but I think the MK 8 GTI was an enjoyable car and fun to drive. Easy to tax and insure. A fantastic all rounder.

@@ceefeeshswim3772 I drive a 7.5 and I test drove the 8. Personally I liked the driving dynamics better than the 8 especially over rough roads that I drove on my test drive. I also like the 7.5 interior better. Overall I think the 7.5 is a better looking car too. WIth that said, would I trade my paid off 7.5 and go into debt again for an 8? No. If I was in the market for a hatchback? Here in the USA anyway we don't have that many options. For the money? I think the GTI is a very good car even with its shortcomings. I can't believe how much the GTI has gone up in price too compared to when I bought my 7.5. For a couple thousand more you can buy a Corolla GR and I would probably buy that instead of the 8 if I had to choose. That is just me. I just don't like people mocking a car that they never drove, or say things they "Heard" and never really checked it out for themselves. The GTI is a very good car. I will leave it at that.

I like the color and car. You could do some vinyl overlays for the interior/exterior from Badgeskins. They should have a purple accent color for a bunch of them.

I had a Mk 8 GTI in moonstone. I thought it was a very practical, well finished daily driver. I put 18” Borbet Ys on it. A bonnet strut, Golf R paddles, Osram dynamic mirror indicators, red trimmed mats, and vinyl sill protectors from EZ mods with the correct Mk 8 GTI font. Maybe some of these?

My goal is the new 8.5 clubsport in a year or 2. Just 2nd hand with low mileage. I was set on the 7.5 TCR but after seeing the changes they made to the 8.5 and how good is looks I just save my money for a few more years.

I’ve had one of these for about 8 months. Quite a good car. Get a rubber case or skin for that key though, they scratch up so easily!

Mod 1. Sell it and get an R 7.5 or 8.5. Mod 2. If Mod 1 is not an option then wrap the cat as the paint job looks like undercoat. Mod 3. Change the wheels and give it more presence. That's a start

It has much more character driving dynamics wise than tke MK7.5, owned both. Old one had better build quality I'll give it that though. New beats it in every other aspect otherwise. Quieter at speed, more comfortable, better fuel economy, new garrett turbo is more responsive and capable, exhaust is louder from factory, feels sharper and livelier in corners

Manufacturers are making all new stuff boring now, even their quicker stuff, so that folks can blend into electric cars more easily. They fill the new petrol cars with tech, then the transition for customers into ev isn't too difficult. Tech is the only vaguely interesting thing an ev can offer anyone. A seamless blend into mundane motoring
