For the purposes of learning where that grab point is, it's best to idle the car as you slowly let the clutch out WITHOUT giving it gas. Reason being is it trains the feel of where the clutch grabs and if you can let the clutch out all the way under idle as the car moves forward AT idle you're far less likely to stall the car.

My father in law has been training me :P He also told me that. He said it's good to learn the feel because each car is different. I have only stalled the car 3 times. It shakes sometimes a little but I am able to avoid it now. I still need practice but I'm no longer scared of it.

Taught my younger brother how to drive a stick, oh, about 45 years ago. 67 Valiant, Slant Six, 3 on the tree. We were in a vacant parking lot, and I had him start out, in 3rd gear, with no gas. That taught him how a clutch works, and it took us about an hour. The Slant Six has so much low end torque, it was no problem. Yes, he DID stall it a few times, but he caught on, quite quickly. steve

While putting new shoes on the rear end, I just disconnected my parking brake from the rear end and the pedal. I used my parking brake pedal as an imaginary clutch pedal, why I don't know.

I have experienced this with my daughter who almost put us through a fence in reverse.... LOL the power connection is what people don't understand when it comes to a clutch which is a connection turned on gradually with your foot to engage engine power to the wheels ....so going backwards or foward and not moving is cus of the engagement from engine to wheels and that is the clutch ....just that simple....maybe laywoman terms is that with the chain off the front sprocket on your bike it won't move and your chain slowly gets put back onto the sprocket as you let your foot out so your foot is the engagement of the switch or disengagement by pushing to disconnect

Big torque cars are actually A LOT easier to learn on because the clutch release will give it a nice roll without much any gas at all. And I would like to point out it doesn't count unless she shifts through at least 3 gears on the street -_-..
