If you're teaching someone in a car that you have to drive to go to work tomorrow to pay your bills, you're more inclined to feel the pressure of them potentially blowing it up. As a manual driving instructor in the UK, it always weirds me out that people in the US go to neutral when braking. Just leave it in gear until the revs drop, THEN clutch in and take the gear you need. You can fail your driving test here for coasting in neutral as you have no drive and you're not in control.

Tj best advice i ever gave. Was you clutch in from second. Pull out of second and let go of the stick and just push it forward and start to let the clutch out. Same with fourth. Just pull back. The way we learn to shift in France is a little bit different. It might be similar in other European countries but since I live in France, I’m gonna talk about my experience there. If you’re coming to a stop actually what you do is brake and when you’re at a stop you shift to first. If you’re slowing down to take a turn it’s about the same thing - slow down, clutch in. With experience, you know which gear you should be at when you’re making the turn but usually when you’re driving in the city, it’s second gear.
