Contrast paints are amazing if you also use a lot of GW paints, as they color match the stuff from the regular pots. Because of their consistency, it's very easy to use them both as designed, or thinned a bit for an easy glaze.

First: You did a great job Miss Ciara. The look of your model at the end is awesome. Second: Almost all the Warhammer TV is painting either right from the pot or using a DRY Palette. However Miss Ciara is using a WET Palette, IMO this a far better way to use acrylics due to them drying so fast, but Mr. Oliver should have let you know that due to using the wet palette you should not be adding nearly as much water when thinning because of water also wicking up into the paint from the wet palette. Third: Miss Ciara, please always remember it's just paint. As long as you're putting on thin layers, if you do not like how it is turning out/turned out just put another thin coat or three with the colors you think will work the best. In a worst case scenario, that there are too many layers of paint and detail are being lost, you just ask Mr. Oliver about the fun world of striping painting and starting the whole painting thing over again, but with the knowledge of things you shouldn't do already learned.

There's a huge, HUGE benefit to have someone sitting with you teaching you techniques. My father was a historical Wargamer and taught me the principles of washes and drybrushing on my very first model (in the 80s, with enamels!). 4 years later I had a miniature in the Golden Demon finals.

I think the problem you’re having is the fact you’re using a wet palette with contrast paint. Thinning it turns it into a wash/glaze.

@@ciara7458 Honestly i have the exact same issue with this specific paint straight from the pot, its almost identical to a seraphim sepia wash, barely more covering. And i put a steel bead into the pot to help but its still not as covering as the other contrast paints I own. Overall, i really feel that contrasts have very different coverage power, maybe even more than classic range.

I wonder if using the wet pallette contributed to her over-watering-down problem - I've found that with the wet pallette and both Citadel and Vallejo paints you barely need to water them down once they're on. Mostly a moist brush is all I've needed, any further and it starts behaving weirdly

One problem with trying to copy steps directly from a video is that you don't know where their color settings are. We also don't know how the video was lit, where the humidity was that day, etc. Getting paint consistency right is one of those things that takes a really long time to learn (and I know I still screw it up a lot), so it's normal to be frustrated with it. And for goodness sake why are you making her hold the model by the base? Get that poor woman a handle! The model turned out much better than any of my early efforts and I hate her a little now. :D

You might find it easier to hold the model with a hobby handle. Contrast paints in general do need a fair amount on your brush in order to get the desired effect. I don’t think the wet pallet helps as it thins an already thin paint.
