I look at this as a redemption arc. Neji was an asshole, Kiba lost to a fart, Choji got it the worst by being one shotted by Dozu.

Naruto isn’t known for writing good and believable female characters, which is quite sad cause it has quite a large female cast. This comes to show that quantity doesn’t equal quality (both in terms of screen time and amount of characters). However they have their moments and you most likely end up liking at least one of them, we all have our favourite kunoichi. Shikamaru is just the best. He is by far my favourite character of this show. Hope you’ll enjoy this arc cause it’s one of my favourites both from OG Naruto and Naruto Shippuden. Even OP5 of is one of my favourites despite giving many spoilers (there are 5 versions of this spoiler though, it’s weird that they did that effort to not spoil certain things but they introduced it early). I really love seeing your reaction but I got to say that what I enjoy the most are your analysis and talks after watching the episode. It really sets you apart from other reaction channels. Thank you for sharing this with us!

Avimac007 * MILD SPOILER WARNING! (In case you read this and haven’t seen the show) Sorry for my generalisation. Maybe, as a woman I end up in some way or another relating to some aspects of the kunoichis and I think some of them have, despite their poor development and little amount of screen time, a personality that induce me to like them. I like Konan, Tsunade, Kushina, Chiyo and Temari. Of these, maybe the only one who is a solid character is Chiyo but I can’t help to like the others. Konan and her tragic backstory and her jutsu are quite compelling, the resilience of Tsunade despite the adversities, Kushina as a strong motherly figure and her love for both Naruto and Minato or Temari and her instinct of survival of the fittest are aspects I see as relatable and interesting though maybe they weren’t explored in their full capacity. I agree that none of them were given as much screen time but, in the little they had, they left quite a lasting impression in me. It’s funny cause, the main female characters, despite having more screen time never did that for me. But that’s why I say that everyone has their favourite, or at least the one that they like more than the others such as we turns into subjectivity and are capable to relate to or enjoy them despite clearly seeing they aren’t well-written.

Yea there isn't really much that Sakura and Ino could do and considering their feelings towards Sasuke it would have been just generally a bad idea to take the two of them to the group. Hinata and Tenten haven't been especially useful so far either xd

Shikamaru really should have been the main character. We would have gotten some very interesting fights since he actually thinks and fights like a ninja. They wouldn’t have been full blown out but his fights are always unique and engaging. Plus him growing up and taking responsibility is a great character arc. Also smart characters are just more likable.
