The last question you ever ask a victim is why didn't they leave. Do you know how convinced they've become that they deserve that treatment or that they did aomwthing to cause it? That shame keeps them silent so often. I'm so glad this man did get free and that he is safe now and either knows his own worth or is continuing to learn that as he heals.

If you've never experienced abuse first hand, know someone that has experienced it or let alone seen a documentary about the 'abuser process' you could be forgiven about being confused and ignorant about the subject because on face-value it just seems preposterous why someone wouldn't leave an abuser that is doing mental and/or physical harm.

People who abuse in this way are usually very intelligent and they use specific techniques to target and manipulate people into becoming very isolated. It’s easy to say what you would and wouldn’t do in a situation however until you’ve Experienced it you don’t understand what it’s like. He doesn’t need to man up he needs to be loved and protected. Just like a woman would. Abuse has no gender it can happen to anyone who falls prey to that situation. In fact alot of the reason why male victims don’t speak up is because they are judged and made to feel like they need to ‘man up’ this is what leads to them ending their own lives eventually. Let’s be open and educated when talking about this because again u don’t know how you would react until it directly affects you or someone you care about.

When you’re in a relationship like this you’re a victim. You don’t ask a survivor of a murderer “you were too scared to try to get away?” “You didn’t do anything to cause it right?” Those questions are irrelevant uncomfortable and disrespectful unless you’re the law trying to find this person what does it change that this person may have said the wrong thing or didn’t leave at the right time? A normal person wouldn’t attack their partner. Ever. Let’s start treating THEM like the problem for once.
