What I love most about Black Panther and why I don't think it's overrated, is how they executed the hard-hitting themes (i.e. the sins of our fathers, leadership, etc.) which elevated it from the standard MCU good vs. bad conflict. Maybe just brush up a bit of the rough edges, but overall I thought it's pretty flawless. Also, Chadwick Boseman was IMMACULATE as James Brown in "Get on Up", another great movie from him.

Story summarized as: Child exiled out of their home to return as a man to fight for their rightful place as king. And had a forrest fever dream of ghost daddy. Conflict of open border is just a backdrop of a family feud. Killmonger technically has the rightful place of king because he is royalty, according to Wakandan laws of inheriting the throne. Well...when I first watched it, I was like this is basically blaxpoilation with Lion King if Simba was the villain and Scar was the good guy. With ideas of a closed country sprinkled in here and there. Amalgamation of a number of the different African cultures on just the surface level but obviously not knowing much about it, thus quickly cut away into space age tech to hide ignorance. Before you guys say because "Africa", not really. I wouldn't associate Lion King with Jetson technology. Look at how many scenes there are with "African culture" with scenes of futuristic technology.

Perhaps someone has made this comment. But just for Holden and his girlfriend and others that don’t know…the mass enslavement of African people throughout the world leading to people being scattered and traumatized and the subsequent disconnect from Africa is a reality and community is known as the African Diaspora. So this isn’t referred to as immigration. It’s very much about the relationship between Africans and those of the diaspora who were ripped from their homeland. In some cases sold by other Africans. It’s about the reconciliation or lack there if between these communities.

Having grown up with him playing in SO many iconic roles I couldn't help but tear up throughout the movie. I was just impressed with his acting and the hard roles he took on. He was like a real life superhero to me. Now to know that he's gone is painful, even though I didn't know him personally. He was on the road to be the mosta iconic black actor, and potentially even the most iconic actor of all time. I remember watching an interview about him talking to children with cancer and him crying about the seemingly helpless situation they were in; all the while hiding from the world (even Disney) that he was sick himself. The man was tough. I wish he was still here.

@VonJay3 жыл бұрын
I really enjoyed it but it was a bit sloppy at times when it didn’t need to be. Structurally and story wise I cannot find a better mcu film, however the execution of the film at parts felt absolutely unnecessary. Like Holden said, some sequences just took me out of the experience. Why create something that looks obviously fake. If there is no other way to do a scene without horrible cgi then scrap those moments of the scene entirely. From when black Panther jumps from his ship in the very beginning and throws the beads to the train fight scene with late 90’s graphics, those scenes could have been swapped with real people and it would have made a 1000% difference. Again, going cgi is completely unnecessary. To me that’s like cging the scene when Killmonger kills claw. Exactly…it makes no sense. If you can’t film it in a persuasive enough of a way with cgi, make the scene simpler. Nobody will miss the bull shit.

Yeah, this isn't a top 5 MCU movie for me but it's still really good and both Matt and Jen considering it as a favorite really puts into perspective the appeal. I think the people who call it overhyped or overrated because of the cultural significance really lack any respect for general audiences. Hype can only bring a movie so far. Black Panther delivered.

@@PhilBagels I dislike Killmonger very much. he is stupid and wrong about literally everything. his motivations are that of someone who has never been outside of Los Angeles and knows nothing of the rest of the world. and why did he wait until after the man that wronged him died and then go after the son who didn't even know what had happened? why did he CHOOSE to be a CIA assassin instead of going to Wakanda when he was young? @@makz524 I dislike him too. I just mean that he's a "good" villain from a literary standpoint. He's evil, but not mindlessly evil. He's motivated by revenge and selfishness. And his motivations are clear and well-acted. We get to see into his character, into just what kind of person he is (a terrible person) and why. Unlike some of the other MCU villains like Malekith or Killian or that completely forgettable guy from Doctor Strange. And I also agree with you that Klaw was a more interesting character. I think there are a number of reasons to dislike this movie, but I don't think Killmonger is one of them. The main thing I didn't like is the deus-ex-machina Vibranium - and unlimited supply of magic metal that does everything you need it to do. Wakanda is an entire nation of Mary-Sues. And the ridiculous succession-by-arena-fight. Really? The most technologically advanced nation on earth, with the most primitive form of government ever. And yes, everything AirunDevon said is wrong.
