I kinda actually love dans fear because I feel the opposite. I’m terrified of dying by mortal means - falling, stabbing, being shot, drowning, cancer. The idea that instead I’ll die by some great force completely out of the control of my insignificant existence - I find that beautiful. I always thought being able to see a cosmic disaster right before it happens would be so incredible. There’s no anxiety, just inevitability.

Mine is kind of niche but drowning by being trapped under ice. I've seen it in TV shows and movies where they go onto a frozen lake or something and fall through the ice, and drown because they can't find the gap again and are trapped under the ice. It's funny Ethan said getting cancer, losing your house because thats exactly what happened to my family. Started having financial issues in 2008 after some a-hole convinced my dad to refinance the house making it difficult for them to keep up with the mortgage then in 2011 my mom was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer, the stress of dealing with finances, cancer, and other medical issues tore my family apart. My mom and i moved out around 2013-2014 and luckily were able to rent a place from a relative for a fair price that we could afford with her disability check. She's had a whole host of other medical issues as well so if it wasnt cancer, it was a cervical spinal fusion, streptococcus pneumonia, a blood clot in her heart (caused by the cancer medication she was supposed to take for the rest of her life), etc. My dad had his medical issues too and had to go on disability as well and idk if y'all know this but it's difficult to raise a family of 3 kids, 2 adults on disability, especially when they were very embarrassed that they needed help to take care of their family, even tho they seperated and my one sister and i lived with mom while my other sis lived with dad they still combined finances and helped each other as much as they could, we eventually got snap, after months of waiting for the application to be approved and then they give you backpay for the months it was pending but its like you realize we have to eat regularly and can't just not eat for 4 months then eat 4 months worth of food when we do get paid, that also is when hurricane irene happened so things got held up even more, we live by the jersey shore. I remember typing a letter that my mom wrote to chris Christie telling him she understands about the hurricane but we still need to eat and had been waiting since long before the hurricane, telling him she had been working since she was 14 and never needed or wanted help but she can't work and is doing what she needs to to take care of her family. There were other fucked up things that happened during those years, my family dealing with addiction, alcoholism, and worsening mental health issues as well because thats what happens when you stretch yourself far beyond what you're mentally capable of and we all extended ourselves far beyond what we could, dealt with it well at the time then when you exit survival mode you fall far and deep into your own mind. The thing ethan said that got me started on my rant was that a mortgage is a good debt because it only is for as long as you can afford it and in America anything can happen in the 30 years before you pay it off, my parents wanted to own that house evntually, my dad was making 100k a year at the time he was making the most, my mom worked part time while taking care of us full time, no matter how financially secure you think you are you can just get really unlucky and find yourself a widow, still with a host of medical issues with nothing but a measily social security check that certainly doesn't last the whole month like my poor mother. I'm 22 now and i live with my mom, i worked at an Amazon warehouse for a year, we were doing well for a while able to get an apartment together then covid came around and she is obviously very immunocompromised, i worked for a while longer but amazon is as bad as they say it is, at least my warehouse was since it was known for being the most productive one on the east coast so despite what they say they certainly prioritize productivity over safety, especially from September/october to December and without covid it wears you down physically and emotionally, but my coworkers started getting sick left and right then they started dropping dead. My parents medical issues traumatized me so i was terrified of bringing it home to her, so i quit fulling intending to find another job the next month but now its over a year later and ive had so many issues i dont want to get into because this post is already so long and now my car broke down, the cat converter went bust and they told me it would be 3-5k to fix it but my brother in law told me they were scamming me so he's going to do it with his brother since his bro has a lift but its been taking forever for him to finish the car he was working on so he can start on ours, and i know i said i haven't worked but thats not entirely true, i was doing uber eats to get us through to the end of each month, we were barely subsisting and now without a car we're not subsisting....sorry i "trauma dumped" my life story here i didn't intend to but i dont get to talk about it a lot i guess so i just started typing and couldn't stop. Thanks for taking the time to read about my woes, if you did.

My baby sister has shaken baby syndrome, the babysitter literally shook her. Her injuries caused 2/3 of her brain to essentially die/ stop forming, it’s caused her head to grow at a slower rate than the rest of her body. Be careful who you let watch and around your children because this woman was a close trusted family friend for many years. Those babies have such small chance of surviving and my baby sister is going to be 18 in about 6 months, she’s 1 in a billion. She is amazing! She goes to school, sings K-pop, talks to us in full sentences, she is SO FUNNY! She beat every single odd that was against her which were all of them even up to living at all. On another note, I’m glad you put this thought out. Without knowing it you spread awareness to this type of situation that is very much possible to happen! Thank you and also thank you for putting it in the lightest note while still being understood as something immensely serious and something that truly brings fear to others!

My irrational fear is of severe weather, specifically severe thunderstorms/wind/tornadoes. I hate the loud, destructive nature of those things, as well as the fact that I can’t control them. I start to shiver a bit whenever I see a thunderhead on the horizon, and I pretty much flip shit if the tornado sirens start going off. It sucks especially because I otherwise love the great outdoors. But the thought of being trapped outside without a substantial shelter (by substantial shelter, I mean a house with a fully underground basement) during a severe thunderstorm just nauseates me. I want, so badly, to go on week-long hunting and camping trips, but I just can’t. I’m in my twenties but I’ll literally cry if I’m forced to drive through a thunderstorm.
