Hey this is a very well done video! I am still watching as I type this. I remember getting guppies in 1966, I had never seen them before and I was just amazed at the colours in the males. I think our first ones were Fancy grade, there were not a lot of different varieties available to us back then. So I started back into the hobby after 40 years away and the first thing I bought was Fancy grade Guppies. I needed something to help get my tank going and everybody stayed happy and healthy until the tank was cycled. I gotta tell you the nostalgia is unreal! I love the zest that Guppies show for life and reproduction! 😂🤣 The males I got are beautiful! One of the females just gave birth to nine babies, I had forgotten how tiny they were. I upped the feeding schedule and used finely ground flakes of several types of food. It has been a few weeks, they are just starting to show a little colour, none were eaten, I suspect because they are well fed. I hope my local fish shop will take a few to keep the numbers down Once I get my second aquarium running I can control the breeding a little. I appreciate your video, enjoyed it immensely!

Great and informative video! Thouroughly love the set-up. I have always wondered about going with all fake plants because it can be so much easier and it looks like it’s working well. Like the hang on boxes for the fry too. Definitely of the best fishkeeping videos I’ve seen! Thank you!

One thing about the circulation fan. The corner fan will help maintain room temperature and reduce stratification if it is stationary and pointed down to the center of the room. Imagine smoke at the top layer and the fan pushing the warm ceiling air straight to the center floor and cold air. Believe me, you will see a big change by just aiming the fans. Place another fan on the floor somewhere and aim it toward the ceiling. Now, imagine, with your minds eye, the smoke is now evenly distributed, top to bottom. So goes the temperature. Trust me. This is also why the home ceiling fans are so smart. Reverse flow on ceiling fans, during the winter and push the warm air down the walls while sucking the cold air up to the fan. It works. It works well.

My problems are the nitrates... I am interested in these sponge filters you have in your aquarium I got the hang on whisper I've had quite a few for many years and still using...... looking forward to your other videos.

Thank you for watching. Don't mess with the water chemistry much, the fish just want consistency. As for the nitrates yeah try adding additional to hang on filter a sponge filter, or a sponge filter over the filter intake.

Hello first time here great looking fish and set-ups I’ve got a couple tanks I recently purchased two female guppies for our planted 55 community tank fancy guppies they are half black a hint of olive green the fins are tipped with dark blue metallic and the dorsal fin is a light yellow my black painted black ground and finnex 24 seven digital light and black sand make these fish pop like I’ve never seen before I woke up to feed them, and there was fry swimming so they were obviously pregnant from the pet store because I didn’t have any guppies before. the fry are starting to color one is 3/4 black with a yellow and black tail and a hint of blue on the entire body a couple look like that and one is clear no color six total. They are all females. My eyes are bad so I use the special magnifying glasses to see up close. Is it normal for females to be this colored? One is almost full black with the blue, the olive and very light yellow 100% females I think I got lucky? Lol any opinions would be appreciated. Thank you.

5 gallon tank for a trio of breeders. 1 male, 2 females. 10 gallon tanks for the females to drop young into, need seperate tanks for A,B,C+ lines. once the young are big enough to sex, split them into segregated 10 gallon tanks for males and females, for each line. If you follow Stan Shubels method on this, that means for 1 color of fish, 2 lines, you need about 7 tanks. 1-5g and 6-10g. My method was.... 5 males of the line you want, 15-25 females. place them into a 20 gallon tall tank. take hit females out, place them into breeder nets to drop young fish into 40 breeder. segregate males from females ASAP. Take the best 5 males and best 15-25 females out of each drop, repeat. CAVEAT......always toss out the first drop of a female fish. Make sure she gets hits 7 days after she drops. Keep only her 2nd drop. Send those breeder males and females to show. Raise the young, take the best 5m and 15-25F. Repeat. CULL HARD AND WITHOUT REMORSE. Other fish get hungry and need to eat, feed them feeder guppies or sell to LFS. After about 5 generations, you should have a really nice looking line of fish. Make sure to follow guidelines on show fish if thats your gig. Otherwise, look for healthy fish with good color, fins, and correct body shape. NEVER keep deformed fish.

Me and my dad use to bread show quality guppy’s. We developed our own colors. We also use to bread catfish and angel fish. We developed different colors when breading. Catfish and angel fish lay eggs unlike guppies have live fish. Anyway you need a few slabs of slate for them to lay the eggs on. Catfish usually have a few hundred eggs hatch at a time. We use to sell off our extra guppies and catfish and angel fish. We use to ask the fish store what sizes they liked the bigger the more we charged. The fish stores use to call us all the time for fish. Our fish are way better quality than they get from wholesalers. We had 3 or 4 fish stores we use to supply. Some stores would give us cash and some would give us store credit for supplies. In the long run we made a profit. We use to send our show quality guppy’s all over the country for shows. It was a lot of fun and learned a lot about breading.
