While it isn't entirely necessary, I would recommend reading at least First Strike. If you don't feel like reading the whole thing now, or can't buy the book for whatever reason, check out Halopedia. They have summaries of all the books released so far. And it was not a waste of time at all. It is my pleasure to help out fellow Halo fans :)

@Clyde Marshall: Probably because it was the first discovered. However, it seems to be a common thing for characters to refer to a single ring as Halo. In Halo 3, the Chief asks Miranda "What about Halo?", referring to Delta Halo. The Greek letter designations for the Halo rings signify the order they fire in when activated. Installation 04, Alpha Halo, fires first, followed by Beta Halo, Gamma Halo, Delta Halo, and so on. I think Installation 04 is first because it's Monitored by 343 Guilty Spark, and thus holds some significance for the IsoDidact. That's just my speculation, though.

Both versions have the same amount of content. The differences are in grammar and certain dates. The original 2010 books were supposed to fix certain errors in the first 3 Halo books (dates, the number of active S-IIs, grammar, etc), but were themselves full of errors. The 2011 "Definitive" editions make all the necessary fixes

The things I would do for that Master Chief statue... Holy shit. You've got some things I didn't even know existed! Right now I'm collecting the soundtracks. I just love listening to the music. I want to start reading the books too, so I'm glad I found out from watching this there's an updated version of the Fall of Reach and the other two books that come after it. Halo is the only video game I've played that dragged me into the story. Awesome collection! I hate B&N too by the way. Paid extra money for 3 day shipping only to get my books 3 weeks later in battle damaged condition lol.

Halo Canon, why do we tend to refer to Installation 04 as Halo singular even after we know it to be part of a seven ring array? In Nightfall especially it would seem to make more sense if they actually called it either by its number or designation as Alpha Halo. Which leads me to another question. Why is the fourth installation designated Alpha Halo?

I just started Halo ever since I played Halo Infinite online. Because of that, it has me playing the entire Halo saga. Can someone tell me in chronological the books I need to read understand the Halo universe more? I know in chronological order the games, I just need to know the order of the books

It honestly depends on what you want from the universe. A good starting place is always "Halo: The Fall of Reach". This was written back in 2001 to advertise the then-upcoming Halo CE. As such, it remains a great foundational text for the series. If you want a broader, more general catch-up on the lire, 2016's "Halo Mythos" covers the entire scope of lore from the Precursors to the doorstep of Halo Wars 2. As I am young and unemployed I have not really collected anything and so I probably won't understand until I do, but as of this moment I kind of feel that the best way to show love for your collection is to use it and play with it. Some of those pieces you have no intention of selling so I don't understand why you would leave them alone. I used to have a statue that I bought whilst I lived in the U.K of John running and holding dual magnums, any idea if they are valuable anymore or if they are sold still? KirbyGaming I personally prefer hardcover whenever you can get them. As far as I'm aware, though, only the Forerunner Saga and Kilo-5 books were ever printed in Hard Cover.
