I've been circling this subject lately too and appreciate your sharing all this excellent info and your decks as additional reference. I also have been struggling with the paper / printing / laminating dilemmas that you initially encountered, so it was great to hear how you went about resolving those problems. Would love to see more specifics if you ever care to share. Thanks!

Honestly it’s just pasting multiple layers of paper and trying different paper combinations.it’s a skill that you have to practice at. There are lots of variables to work out. I stick to mostly 3 sheets though I have done 4. I believe it’s a book called “the history of playing cards” that describes the historic process. You have to just experiment with that. When you get started you can always message me and I’ll be happy to help

The cards are so beautiful, Justin!! You did a fantastic job with the production on both of these. Fwiw I especially like the softer hues of the prototype deck - the white background doesn’t scream as much.

They look great! I’ve been slowly putting together notebooks full of information to do my own deck and you have provided a lot of valuable insight here. I love the handmade craftsmanship aspect. Most of the good musicians I know and have worked with have a ton of talent in visual arts as well.

Thank you my friend. The only thing that works is trial and error. You have to try different paper combinations. Thanks for watching my friend. When you start making them you can always message me. I’m happy to help

I am very blessed to have a deck crafted by your hands with the spirit of the group we inhabit together in it and I still need to do a video about it. Regardless of the version I have it is lovely. I can tell the care and love of the process that you put into the cards.

Yea if anything that was my first version. I was still not happy with my cards at that point. But they are nonetheless special. Just slightly different. I appreciate you my friend 🥰

Stunning work, Justin. Your devotion to crafting by hand is a real inspiration. I’ve never tried making cards but love sewing books by hand. Gearing up to try a leather cover. Thanks so much for the video!

Cool fascimles & bookbinding! Have you managed to reproduce decks for larger market? I'm in the US & buying decks from France is expensive.

This is wonderful Justine. I've always wanted to create my own deck and what an inspiration you are. You should be proud. You mentioned you used a soap finish. Do you soap both sides or fronts or backs only, and do you mean bar soap like Ivory? Nice book bindings! xoxo ~ Marilyn
