I’ve been looking for a decent shredder/chipper, but I’ve got much larger trees down on our property in the country. That’s cool.

Mine just died, after two seasons. I used it lightly for the first season, but it didn't do a great job with small branches, so I stopped using it. This year, however, I discovered that it was really good at grinding up acorns, and with three oak trees on our yards, we get a whole lot of them. Unfortunately the unit started to play up. The motor speed seemed to drop, and then after a while I could smell plastic, and not long after that, the motor burned out. I managed to take it apart, to discover that the top motor bearing had failed. This had caused the bearing to overheat, melting the thermoplastic housing, causing the motor armature to come into contact with the stator, and eventuially resulting in the stator windings burning out. It seems like the over current protection didn't protect it! The motor brushes looked hardly worn, with loads of life left in them. Sadly, the only spare part listed for it by Harbor Freight is the belt, and ironically, the belt looks perfect. So as it stands, my unit is junk. I would suggest that anyone buying a unit like this, if there isn't spare parts support, should take out an extended warranty. Otherwise, when the unit fails, you'll be out of luck.

Sound like you were not using 12 AWG extension cord and motor was overheating from not getting enough AMPs

Hey, is this chipper still running for you?
@justinvanwijk716 Жыл бұрын
DON'T BUY. I've worked in forestry and used many different types of chippers. Though I'm not such a snob that I do understand that homeowners want something small, but this is a really terrible machine. So much so that I feel morally obliged to write in the comments of everyone of these reviews. Can't chip anything. Jams constantly. These machines will fill our landfills along with the branches they were unable to chip.

Mine is still going strong and it's at least 3-4 years old. Used it for at least two hours yesterday and feel I got my moneys worth out of the machine.
