Yeah the rankings are more than just strength. The biggest criteria are how many cases solved (with difficulty of the cases taken into account), public approval ratings, and contribution to society. Endeavor actually solved more cases than All Might, but All Might consistently ranked higher because of his impact on society and so many people loved him.

@@aacm1259 Those kids are a product of quirk society though - they see their own Quirks, what makes them so unique & special, a society in which those with powerful quirks can become heroes, get rankings to prove they're above that of others, get money, be popular - and those are looked up to. That combined with what they hear from their parents and on television and what they try to parrot is only on top of what they see & believe. Kids will use anything for an excuse to act on what they want & believe, but that'll still fuel them enough to add to the fire.

This is the beginning of Endeavor's turn. He pushed himself to be a stronger hero than anyone else. That can save more people than anyone else. That can do it all faster than anyone else. And he became bitter and callous in his quest to become number one that way. But now that he is number one (due to reasons he didn't plan), he sees that those things aren't enough. And it's putting him in a place where he's confronted with what he had to do to get where he is. And how little those things ultimately mattered in the big picture.

In one of the backups in the manga they mentioned that Gang Orca has a hard time consoling kids because they get frightened by the way he looks. It says that he has a lot of trauma because of that. Also there was a little moment that the anime cut out where Bakugo reflects on Todoroki’s past when Todoroki questions Bakugo’s attempt at violent discipline. After that Bakugo relents and goes with Todoroki’s plan. It was a really nice moment and so small that I think they easily could have left it in there.
@Ren_Davis0531
@Ren_Davis0531 4 жыл бұрын
Fuck Batman Yeah. It really bothered me that it was cut. Bakugo flashes back to the Sports Festival when he overheard Todoroki’s conversation with Midoriya about Endeavor’s abusive history then Bakugo begrudingly swallows his pride to listen to Todoroki. It was a small, but giant step for Bakugo. Especially since this whole episode is about the effect that heroes have on children.

Having my mom and brother be elementary school teachers and as someone who worked as a teacher's aid before. I can relate to a lot of what the teacher is facing this episode. In this situation the teacher can't do anything because she appears to be quirkless and so the children can overpower her. In japan there are still corporal punishment in schools and so any malicious up bringing can be fixed by the schools at an early age, also most parents side with the school and teachers when correcting their child. When I came here to america, teachers can't do anything to correct a child's behavior. No corporal punishment, no disciplinary actions, you can't even shout at them and show authority. All teachers can do is call the office and wait for someone to get the child and "talk" to them, which does nothing.
@trrebi981
@trrebi981 4 жыл бұрын
I don’t believe corporal punishment is the solution. Talking can indeed get the job done, but it takes time and commitment. Which is expensive to get and many parents are unable to engage in the right method talking to their kid(s) on their own. It leaves three options for those parents with problem children that can’t find or afford a good therapist (and there’s an unexpectedly numerous amount of shitty therapists out there). 1. Find time you don’t have to learn how to parent the unique way you need to for your child. 2. Engage in corporal punishment (ideally not to the point of the age of reason, and not to the point of abuse) 3. Do nothing and hope they turn out ok while learning their own lessons.

Atomsk ThePirateKing Well yeah, that’s what I said. It’s expensive and unrealistic to get kids going the right way purely through teaching. Most of these kids need proper therapy, but will never be able to afford it, or have authority figures who think they don’t need or deserve it. A teacher shouldn’t be expected to do all the legwork, but engaging in corporal punishment isn’t the solution either. That tends to breed resentment and fear more than actual compliance out of the goodness of their heart.
@StuffSayoSays
@StuffSayoSays 4 жыл бұрын
@@trrebi981 I agree with what you said. It was just a massive culture shock for me and my family after moving here to america. In japan even as kids, we held our teachers in high regards and see them as role models. We cleaned the rooms every time we switched teachers, and before leaving school. Our janitors only had to clean most of the hallways and the yard. This is from a country that allows corporal punishment, and I was only punished one time for picking flowers at garden. Never did that again, my punishment was helping our the janitors clean the yard and plant new flowers after school for a day. The problem here in america is more problem children come from broken or problematic families in bad neighborhoods. Their parents don't know how to properly raise a child since they didn't experience it first hand. Teacher now get the full punishment and if the teachers tells at a child to stop and talks to them, parents come in angry and complain. My mom is a short asian woman with a kind and very soft personality and when she comes home telling me and my brothers all the horrible things do around her, it just rattles my bones. She's been a teacher here in america for the last 20 years and of course has grown accustomed to the brats here. I was told that I can't do anything about it, it's because those kids came from troubled families. But guess what, we came here to the US, my folks separate cause of my dead beat dad, my mom raised 3 boys by herself in a country we knew little off and we turned out fine. I just wish teachers we're respected here as much as they are in asia. It's their job to teach, not to be disrespected.

They never really explain what the "Top Hero" rankings mean, at least to my knowledge. It could just be how effective they are at stopping crime. All Might was both the Number 1 Hero & the Symbol of Peace; I feel like no matter how he measured up to the others, All Might would've been the Symbol no matter what because that's what he aimed to be. And to spoil a little of next week's episode, Endeavor talks about wanting to be "the strongest" a lot, so I'm guessing he aimed to be like All Might because he thought it'd be a track towards catching and surpassing him, which is why he became a hero in the first place. It gives him a great and legal way to show off his insane power and really push himself to overcome the insurmountable challenge of overcoming All Might.

Okay...? Still doesn’t change the fact that he’s experienced authoritative parenting that involves physical punishment as well. This makes him insensible and oblivious to violence, not really his fault imo. And do you actually believe that if Bakugou wasn’t that type of kid that his mom wouldn’t have disciplined him that way anyways? I mean, just take a look at that personality of hers. 🤣 Not saying that it’s wrong (each to their own), but aren’t you being a little too dismissive by ignoring his upbringing (and placing too much blame on Bakugou) while pitying Todoroki a little too much? 🤔 Just saying.
@skelitonking117

Clare V. To be fare there’s a direct correlation between someone’s personality and their quirk (if you aren’t a manga read I won’t go more in depth). So if Katsuki wasn’t that type of kid, it’s likely that Mitsuki wouldn’t have been that type of mother and vice versa.
@clarev.377
@clarev.377 4 жыл бұрын
@@skelitonking117 Well, if one's quirk affects or relates to one's personality (haven't been up to date with the manga, so thanks for the consideration), it still wouldn't be entirely Bakugou's fault for resorting to violence due to it being out of his control. Many factors do play a large role in one's character: upbringing, heredity, and quirk (in this anime). But yeah, I do see where you're coming from though. I'm just simply trying to point out that Bakugou's personality is greatly influenced by his parents (mainly his mom), as they're far too similar to be a mere coincidence. Thanks for the insight though!
