Seeing people insist Endeavor wasn't abusive is wild. There's no reason to assume that literally everyone in the family (including Endeavor!) is somehow reading this situation wrong. Nor is there any reason to believe that only the few minutes of abuse they've shown up to this point are the only instances that ever happened. This went on for years, obviously they're not going to be able to show every hit and insult.

He wasnt physically abusive other than those instances though. He was mentally/emotionally abusive and I agree it’s annoying how hard some of the people are trying to justify it. It’s like they’re missing the entire point of his “redemption” arc. They think they know better than the author too for some reason? Like the entire implication in this arc is “yes endeavor was a horrible parent/husband, but he is trying to change and atone” meanwhile these people think that endeavor was “misunderstood” or “misjudged”? Even though the character essentially states himself that he’s aware of how horrible he was? It makes zero sense to me.

@@zigsteenine8650 I guess, there are two extremes. I think he was hard on Shoto in his traninig. And I think he only hit her that one time, and it was out of fear for Toya. It comes up later in the series, the whole thing about Endeavor taking full blame for everything when, in fact, he shouldn't - while he was the main reason everything went wrong, it strips the agency of other characters to treat them *just* as casualties of his actions rather than people who made choices outside of him. He's the Most to Blame, for sure, but he's not the only person involved.

You know things are bad when Bakugo of all people is teaching you about manners and how to act around people. As for Toya, I believe the mangaka drew him with having no shading in his hair(which typically indicates that it's white), but the anime gave him red hair. I'm not sure if Horikoshi tried to fix their mistake or if he always planned to have his hair switch from red to white, but it did(even though I'm pretty sure he's still supposed to have white hair during the moment they keep replaying over and over) but oh well
@SirFoxbutt5 ай бұрын
I think the very first time we see that flashback (from Todoroki's perspective in S2) when Toya has red hair is a mistake, as everything following that shows him with white hair - including (SPOILERS) the eventual full backstory we get for Toya in the later seasons, it shows his hair transitioning at a younger age, so it SHOULD have been white at that point in his life, but I think the anime adapated the colour incorrectly the first time.

Please learn some Japanese cultural norms. Deku doesn't have a crush, he's just overly and incredibly polite - so much so that he overcorrects on everything. It's a small joke about the nature of entering a home and politely thanking people for letting you enter, there's a decorum to it and if you don't do it at the right point it can be seen as being rude. Deku knows this but doesn't take into consideration that there's no one there to be polite to when entering, he technically should as Endeavour and Shoto are there but they came with him and they should be greeting people too as that's polite as well. So when she pops up, Deku panics and thinks he needs to both be polite in thanking them for allowing him into their home and apologising for not already doing it so thereby going overboards on both. Because Deku's a bit of a spaz when it comes to things like this, he kind of overcompensates about things- which is why he's nervous around Ochaco and she is around him.

I think when people say he wasn’t abusive like that, I think they mean like getting drunk and just beating her everyday and they gotta cover her up when they go out and shit, in shotos flashback back in season two, you hear the slap and then later endeavor said she hurt my masterpiece so I put her in a hospital. I first interpreted that as he beat her ass, but then I thought he could have meant the mental hospital that she’s in. But the thing is is as we can see there’s so much more to the story that we do not know looking through shoto’s eyes. That’s all ima say since they not caught up yet, but my point is that the stereotypical abusive husband isn’t the same as endeavor especially from What we can see ABUSE Abuse? Watch Erased, good anime, detective like kinda but you not gon find that in my hero academia like that
@zigsteenine8650 Жыл бұрын
You’re right but he still was ABUSIVE just not physically. I mean Rei’s mental breakdown didn’t happen just cause Enji slapped her once. He was mentally and emotionally abusive to his family. He neglected his other kids too. You could even argue Shoto was kind of physically abused too cause he was forced to train extremely harshly even as a very young child. He definitely changed at this point but he was a horrible father/husband for his family. I feel like people shouldn’t try to defend his actions in the past and rather should praise the fact that he’s actively trying to be better, has changed, and is atoning for his past. I’m not saying you’re defending him btw but just adding to what you’re saying cause I feel like people are choosing the wrong hill to die on when saying “he wasn’t abusive like that”

Characters like the former I mentioned usually always have a redemption arc that makes their character so much sweeter to me, like a beast finally learning to be a man, u feel me. So I like what u say when u say u don’t see it as me defending him but more so we should focus on the redemption rather than trying to rationalize why he is how he is, cuz truth is part of me is defending him while part of me knows he’s wrong and NEEDS this redemption arc to kinda clean up the painting we have of him so far

I still maintain that Endeavor was not physically abusive. There was that ONE incident where he used too much force to move her out of his way while he was training Shoto. And that is literally the only instance of any sort of "abuse" we are ever shown. In fact, the more information I learn about the Todoroki family, the more it looks like Rei (the mom) was just a very mentally weak woman and she could not handle the ultra determined and ultra driven personality of Endeavor. Even if Endeavor was slapping her around often, and there is no evidence of that, it would take a LOT more abuse than that to make a mother try to murder her own child by throwing boiling water at him. The fact that she did that is a testament to her mental weakness much more than it is to Endeavors supposed abuse. What's really sad about the entire thing is how the children all blame Endeavor simply because they chose the side of the parent who was "nice" to them rather than the one who was probably doing more to help them grow and succeed.
@zigsteenine8650 Жыл бұрын
I’m not sure if you’re caught up with the anime but there was another time he did use physical force on his wife. I do agree that those are probably the only two instances of violence against his wife. But that still doesn’t changed the fact that he was mentally and emotionally abusive. So he WAS most definitely “abusive”. I don’t like how you’re implying that Rei wasn’t abused just cause she wasn’t being beaten daily. Like physical abuse isn’t the only type of abuse man. And the other kids choose the “nicer” parent cause they were complete strangers to endeavor as children. Natsuo has literally stated this himself and how he barely knows anything about Endeavor and his own brother (Shoto). Enji wasn’t ever trying to help them grow and succeed. Natsuo has said he felt Endeavor thought of them as failures and neglected them. Which he kind of did think that even if he wasn’t shown to say it directly. You’re trying way too hard to justify how terrible of parent/husband he was bro. It’s like youre completely missing the point of his character development. We aren’t meant to be like “you know what he wasn’t that bad in the past” the entire point is that it’s a good thing that he’s changed and is trying to atone for his actions.

WTF are you talking about ?!!!? Are u putting the fault on Rei ? That is asbolutely WILD you are a very bad person if you think that way or just very stupid and watched the show with closed eyes. You think she went into the mental hospital just because he slapped her a few times ?! It was more than that there is no excuse to abuse someone, so what you are trying to say is that Endeavor abuse is justyfied because Rei is weak ? You are pathetic and very close minded. When Rei saw Shoto in the kitchen she didn’t saw Shoto she saw her abuser yes and that’s the consequences of years of abuse she was scared. In the manga when she realised what she had done she was crying and put ice on shoto eyes and you said that she was trying to KILL him ? « Endeavor supposed abuse » naaahh just stop it, it is confirmed that he was abusive you think that everyone hate him for nothing ? Wake up, i will pray for your future wife and kids 🙏

@priscanicolle2672 there is no evidence either way. You can't assume either way. That's my point. And yes, i can say that they are all wrong. This manga is written by somebody who obviously has certain moral values that seem to be far more sensitive and soft than other people's moral values. There are people who believe in spanking children and others who believe that is abuse. There are people who believe parents own their children and that children have no privacy, and there are people who believe that children are their own persons who should make decisions for themselves.

Specifically, it’s never shown or stated that Endeavor was physically abusive to his wife, and, as far as hitting Shoto during training is par for the course in a shounen that revolves around actual fighting. It’s just not usually portrayed as roughly as this interaction, but that’s probably because it’s meant to show that their relationship was never fun and always serious. There’s so much more to this family dynamics and relationship, but I’m trying not to spoil anything, but here’s a hint. There are various people involved in the matter, making various viewpoints. For instance, have Shoto’s sister, who is trying bring everyone back together,despite her brothers’ take and feelings on things, and we’ve yet to get the mother’s take on it.
