I mean straight off the bat, this guy ain’t livin’, he’s just trying to “catch up,” while constantly working. No social life, hobbies, or sleep, you’re not livin’. That rest time and looking forward to something everyday, a pride in yourself and what you’ve achieved seems necessary as hell. For sure a plan is needed, a set goal and plan so you’re on the right track instead of spending “10,000 mindlessly working” 16:20 changing how you There’s always a cost of change when learning how to learn something, and most of it is unlearning mistakes you’ve been making. 1.) figure out next few waves of challenges 2.) be humble And what I take from this is to look towards experts already at those levels you’d like to be at to see what you’ll be facing in the future and what they do to match those challenges, how they learn, how they apply themselves, what mistakes they made and how they get through them. “If someone’s already failed before, there’s no need for you to do it, learn from their mistakes. The takeaway I heard: "Everyone is doing it wrong. The cost to do it right is just a little bit more than what you're already paying in time and effort. What is that cost? It's my program. Pay me and find out."
@essennagerry4 ай бұрын
@@johngomez7118 Not everyone is doing it wrong but many people are doing it very inefficiently, chances are you too. And if that's the case, you can change a lot in your learning system by learning from his videos which are free on youtube. I was part of his program for a short but had to drop out due to mental health issues. What I saw back then was some people had mindset challenges to overcome which prevented them from actually implementing the techniques they learned. Then when we had what was back then called live clinics and group couching sessions the coaches would adress these things. If you watch this video again with this in mind perhaps you'll see it the way I see it - sometimes people think the techniques are too obvious or easy or not worth the trouble learning when you're already busy. It's actually a mindset issue in many cases. The course is sectioned in stages, you can basically pass the first stage before entering the course if you master all the basics he teaches for free on youtube, the question is will you though and also will you have things to unlearn that could've been easily avoided. But like absolutely he gives the basics away for free, even when it comes to specific techniques. As for OP, to answer your question - find videos of his where he explains specific techniques, watch those, and come back to this video. If you don't know of any of these or you never encountered them done properly or it was never explained to you why these techniques are good for learning - me with mindmaps - then it's natural you'd scratch your head and wonder how any of this can be applied in practise. He teaches specific techniques for free on youtube and goes deeper in his course, and in his course there's also really good guidance. When I was in the course they were constantly improving, I assume the guidance and coaching is even better now.

its a bit convoluted because he's using his doctorate journey as an example, what i can get is, for simpler example you're learning math in 7th grade, instead of learning every topic following the teacher, its better to get an overview/bird eye view of what math would be in 7th-8th-9th grade.And honestly its pretty similar, so what he suggesting is studying the 7th grade math but scratch that 8th-9th grade math so you can excel in math for 3 years investing 1year of your time instead of keep repeating every year

If I understand this correctly, cost of change is somewhat influenced by opportunity cost, right? One invests a little more time (that could be spent resting) than is currently needed in order to achieve a level of skill that is required at a later point, thus actually saving more time in the long term by not having to invest the cost of change multiple times.

Not realising that those pretty illustrations and metaphors arent really that deep or informative. @XhaXa4 ай бұрын
I truly believe that content like this expands beyond just the domain of studying due to its applicability to many other domains, most notably being life in general. The "future-proofing" strategy is akin to how parents (or equivalent figures) may give you advice such as never getting into debt, which may lead to the recipient deciding to learn how to manage money properly. In that example it is a challenge and the corresponding (tho generalised) technique to resolve it before it begins. The key difference being the level of foresight and actively seeking out potential challenges which you may face. I'm sure everyone has "future proofed" to some extent but this video underlines the most basic principle of it. Therefore, it's much more useful than just studying. Further examples (with more depth), I have an upcoming trip to Jamaica. After interviewing friends and acquaintances, I find out that there is a form to complete before immigration. Completing it beforehand can save me time on the arrival day after a long flight. I also find out that when it rains there, it POURS. Therefore, instead of packing an umbrella , I choose a sturdy raincoat and place it in my carry on luggage for easy access. Perhaps you learn that it's less of a hassle to just pre book a taxi rather than try to get one while at the airport. There are a lot of practical applications using these principles. The one for learning is just one of them and most would more likely be familiar with the version I described. Leveraging this experience towards personal studies and challenges potentially years beyond was definitely beyond my scope of competence. Although I may have had some traces of it, it definitely was not clearly defined. Knowing what you don't know is very helpful [conscious incompetence]. Ty Justin Sung.

@Divine5555-n7t4 ай бұрын
Omg that’s so interesting. I’m the exact opposite. Well, kind of. What I started to do that I thought was most important was tell myself that I’m not bad at math. Like everything I told myself I’m bad at, I told myself that I could change those things. And then I started looking at my “failures” as a roadmap. For example, I just took a test for my Environment class and I could tell you all the concepts and theories around it. I would be able to lecture on it and write papers on it. But, in the actual test, I saw that it was mainly graphs and calculations instead. I knew that you had to multiply number an and number b together to get number c, but I wasn’t provided a calculator and I realized I forgot how to multiply decimals by hand. When I got home,after grieving my frustrations, with a clear head, I wrote that down specifically what I had trouble in on the test. I was as specific as possible and tried practice problems from Kahn academy in calculations by myself. I sucked at first. And I’m still not the best at it! But! I have concrete evidence on where I lack, and I know that there are internet and other sources that can help me, so I’m not really worried. I think maybe if you were to find videos of people describing some of these historical events in a way that you understand and you put it into practice somehow, it could help you. Also, remember one of Justin’s key rules. Consumption must equal digestion. When you read something in history, philosophy, religion, etc. and you don’t understand it, pause reading. This is then when you think for a moment about what you just read. You can read it again and you can look it up after you’ve at least thought about it in your head first. Also, the more you learn the subjects and go into related rabbit holes that you want to go into, you’ll start to spend less and less time pausing. You’ll retain way more bc you’ll just get the concepts. For example, I had to learn about fossil fuels and the professor didn’t tell us more in depth about OPEC, the chemical makeup of fossil fuels, extraction methods, etc. at first. She told us that in the second and third slideshow. No having access to the second and third slideshow at first, I just spent a lot of hours looking up every single question I had about what I was learning and just branched out my knowledge. It was extremely time consuming, but by the time I had the 2nd and 3rd slideshow, I didn’t need to spend much time at all trying to understand them. I know this was really long, but I hope that helped a bit? Just know that you’re not stupid and you’re not behind in life. You have so many strengths and now, you can work on making your weaknesses stronger little by little! It’ll be really time consuming and hard at first, but it’ll get easier! Also, I recommend using a digital second-brain system to store any knowledge u learn so u can make connections in your learning as you gain more knowledge.
@An_Iron_God694204 ай бұрын
There are a lot of nuances in those topics thats why its harder for you. i guess you like a certain set of rules to follow thats why youre good at math, reasoning and economics. but History, law, have much more moving parts and differences thats based on circumstances. If you tried learning some stem subjects like Physics, Biology and Chemistry as well, you would be better equipped to mesh theory, reasoning and math together, especially in higher studies.
